Yesterday, the girl and I rode down to Carolina Beach to take a look at a house her boss owns. I figured I'd take backroads to Benson, and ended up riding through Lillington, and over to Benson on 27. This was a bit longer trip than I anticipated, and the girl was less than thrilled with my route. But we did did eventually get to Benson, and she did begin speaking to me again.

After we got on I-40, it was a quick trip. We had lunch down there and came back. No side trips on the way home.

Flynuly -- welcome to C3!

JimN -- that antenna looks like the one next door to us that her boys put up in the 70's. A few years back they tried to pull it out of the old oak tree to no avail. We've had several hurricanes take out big trees here and that antenna stays put (now with nylon rope that snapped trying to get it down!!).

Speaking of meetings - since we have no director, isn't Brankin our Assistant Director??? If so, I think it's up to him to call a meeting!

I've got the C3 decals and have ordered more C3 jr. decals.

Are you into aviation?
Not really, just like to fly real low (on 2 wheels - or even one). Just trying to do some research.

Not a bad place just flat strait roads.
'Bout the same as Eastern NC then...

I was doing some research on Hot Bike's website today and found this interesting picture.

Hot Bike Cyclone

Not too big of a surprise when you consider that one of the old Editors, Howard Kelly, has always been a big Buell supporter.

I know this is a long shot, but by chance does anyone have the April issue of Hot Bike? There's an article in the magazine that I would really like to have scanned (or just have the entire magazine mailed to me) to continue my research...

TIA,

Speaking of meetings - since we have no director, isn't Brankin our Assistant Director??? If so, I think it's up to him to call a meeting!

The pressures of a 'leadership' position...

Actually, the schedule, as laid out by our illustrious 'Defector Director' shows the next meeting to be Saturday, May 20th. It was changed from the 'normal' 2nd Saturday of the month to the 3rd due to the C3 jr. ride this coming Saturday (sorry I won't be able to attend - going to Myrtle Beach Saturday for some more research...) conflicting with the 'normal' 2nd Saturday of the month.

I see no reason to change it as the calendar is posted for everyone's use as a planning resource.

So with that said, the next meeting is Saturday, May 20th at Shelton's H-D/
Buell in Goldsboro, NC at 11:00 a.m.

Hope to see everyone there,

Jlnance--From the picture (nice by the way) I'd say she just smacked the back of your head and now has her hands on her hips but then who would have taken this great shot. No passenger pegs on my Uly, if SO wants to ride we take the FLH aka. garbage truck. This one is all about ME so far.

1313--Yes about like eastern NC except longer straits and when I was there a good cross wind when traveling east or west (disclaimer: I'm no expert on the area, never lived there.. etc.) No offense to either party but I've heard from KS locals reason for the crosswind is Nebraska sucks and Oklahoma blows, just what I've heard. Didn't find this true in Oklahoma but havn't been to Nebraska...yet. Trip discovery KS, OK, TX, and NM Cattle yards are ok as long as your upwind. The chance to ride any road I have not traveled is better than a day at home in front of the TV.

Kristi--Thanks, Hope to make the July meeting or a ride sometime before then.

I have killed 2 laptops dead in the past 3 weeks, borrowing time on this one. Computer dude at work is going to KILL ME.
Beam me up Scotty

Tim - this group is usually the "who wants to ride tomorrow?" group. I'm sure you'll see more riding time than meeting time!

Brankin - Carlos may make the meeting, but we have Luke's pictures that afternoon.

Is anyone from the Charlotte area riding to this months meeting in Goldsboro? And if you are, would you like some company? I'm trying to work things out so I can go.

Nice Dave nice.
Jlnace--I'm sure we will ride the Uly 2up once I get the pegs back on. Previous owner removed them and I wanted to get comfortable with the high...I mean height first.

Kristi--Outstanding!! More riding less meetings sounds great. Last HOG chapter only wanted to talk about riding around the block to eat. My riding time is limited as most "still working for a living" riders is, so when I get a kitchen pass and the honey do list is done I ride. Not to sound inflexible cause I've had some great times on large group rides that I wouldn't trade for anything. I use riding as therapy to keep my head screwed on strait. Wife is very perceptive and knows when to send me to the doctor.

Smart man.............

Smart woman!

This group will stop to eat, but only to have the energy to ride some more. Our meetings are VERY informal - more like story time. Not sure why we actually have them since most activities take place on BadWeb. Oh well, not my call.

Put the pegs on! Jim N and Carlos often have passengers. Ours depends on if we have a sitter, then the heck with the honey do list, lets ride.

Just a little morsel. I noticed...the new Rider magazine has a add for the Dunlop 616's but not on a Uly. Seems thats more fuel for the Dunlop is being booted.

Will get the pegs on end of June when I get home.
Do you find the ride comfortable? Chris..my wife thinks it looks like a torture device. I love the stock Buell seat but then I have over 60K on a stock harley seat, only complaint is the there is a tear where the stitching pulled loose. Now that the break in is done I can't wait to put in a long day on the Uly and see how the seat holds up.

I only had a few rides on the stock Uly seat. Carlos put the low seat on and I really like it. Jim N has the stock seat on his Uly and Rebecca loves the ride as well. We've had no complaints.

Carlos had the stock seat on his M2, I felt like I was coming off the back. The corbin seat changed that feel and the ventura rack added to the security I felt. At least I knew something was behind me and I wasn't going to hit the pavement. I really like having the back rest on the Uly, I can just sit and relax without feeling like I have to hold on. I do grab the grab bars when he brakes, otherwise I will slide into him. There's that much room on the Uly between rider and passenger.

Lots of Rebecca's pictures are taken from them riding. I've not been that brave. My luck I'd drop the camera!

I think "We've had no complaints" understates things a little:

And the best part is the bike handles great when a passenger is onboard.

Google says Maxton is only 2.5hrs from Fuquay. Assuming my wife hasn't already planned anything that weekend I'd like to ride down and check it out for a day. Anybody else interested?

Mark- any chance they do test and tune runs? Would be cool to throw on my leathers and get a recorded top speed for my XB.

you can do runs but you have to meet al their requirements...i think you need full leathers a deadman switch, then they do a graduated speed thing where your first runs is XX thenthe sexond is XX+y just to make sure you have the skill to do it
Check out their website http://www.ecta-lsr.com/
i used to go watch the sportster fight for the LSR back in like 01-03

From the ECTA faq:

quote:

It costs $5.00 to be a spectator.

It's $100.00 to race per event if you preregister and $120.00 if you pay at the track.
Preregistration must be received a week prior to the meet.

Class changes are $50.00 for the first class change and $25.00 for each subsequent class change.

Also, it's $50 to join ECTA for a year. If I'm reading that correctly, it'll cost $170 to show up at the track and run. I can spend a day lapping VIR with instructors for less than that. I'd still like to go spectate, but I don't think I'll be running my bike.

yeah unless you are going for a record or something...and there are some fun pushrod records....

now from time to time you will see Nascar teams down there doing cheap top speed testing... or the odd guy that has to have a documented 200mph on his bike. or a lakester going like 250+
fun to watch and sometimes there are some real interesting..."stuff" running.
Once saw a Sporty going 156, no fairing... that was fun!

I just posted down in the Adventures/Parent+child thread, firming up plans for Saturday. Just wanted to post here so you would know it's there, and to reiterate again that you don't have to bring a parent or a child to ride with us. It would be great to have anyone who wants to come. You'll have a great time. I think Jim is planning a bon fire that will be visable from the space shuttle.

Be careful, though, you might go forward! As in too much engine compression.
