Hey Charlie,
Hope all is well down that way!
How is the flatlands treating you? Did you end up getting that hotrod?
Thanks for the compliment on the bird. As far as the picture I was just making sure it was indeed a gobbler.
Me and a friend from NY may be headed that way in Oct. for some deer and hog hunting at a place called Bostick Plantation. Supposedly a pretty nice joint with plenty o' game. If you like hunting you ought to hook up with us for a few days of R&R.
I surely wouldn't mind seeing a red wolf (or any wolf for that matter) but I imagine they are rare and off limits to hunting.
Can't wait for you to get your computer hooked up so you can join us on a more frequent basis. Every since Jason got that job he is too busy to participate in our usual jibberish back and forth

What a morning!!
Congrats again on your bird and fine shooting.
Sorry about the grainy pics but the uploadable file size limit is pretty small.
I will burn you a copy to disc so you can have you a nice poster made to remember the occasion LOL!

That's prompt service there Mr. Jackie. The ruler says the beard is a full 10 inches and I can tell you the tenderloin goes down smooth with some eggs. I'll be heading out to see Mr. Hicks shortly. That was a memorable morning to say the least! I spent the better part of an hour describing in great detail our hunt to my Dad. I think he was pretty proud. Jackie, I am so glad to have met you and made a lifelong friend in the process. I'll even like you after you sell the Firebolt. LOL NUTS

You know, we have done a lot in the short time we have known one another. Your first Turkey, first Squirrel, my first Fox and the Raccoon fiascos, all great memories to reflect on when the day turns crappy. I too am glad to know someone who enjoys the outdoors like I do. I swear I enjoy watching your cycle of excitement, disappointment, excitement more than harvesting an animal myself. I particularly get a kick out of your stealthy "repositions" when your leg goes to sleep BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Now I just need to get you hooked on Smallmouth Bass. Not really big around here but quantity abounds. When the water warms up a hair more we should be able to wear them slap out.
I picked Arielle up from school on the bike and she thought she was the cats' meow. All the little boys were saying "cool" and "awesome" so who know she might get a boyfriend out of it.
How long until you get that fine tail mount back? I hate to drop this on ya but you pretty much got the biggest one you'll ever get. That truly was a massive bird.
Have fun telling your wife the tale and don't get too upset if she doesn't think it is all that exciting. If she is anything like my wife she will listen and pretend to be interested LOL!!

After returning from Mr. Hicks' I hit the lounger. I was as you say "slap, wore out." I guess all the adrenaline wore me down and my body could endure no more. I slept for a good four hours and vaguely recall giving my wife few details of the hunt.

In the woods subtlety isn't my strong point and the extra movement is intentional; it mimicks the chaos of the woods perfectly. I happen to see a full mount bird about the size of mine at Hicks' except that one had two beards! So there is hope for bigger and beardeder.

I'm glad all the kids thought highly of your "pocket bike!" I'm sure Arielle will have that memory stuffed away for a good long while. NUTS

Chauly, the food was great! We avoided any interludes with the badge wearing population and almost scored a new T.V. We happened to look over and see a television lying face down in downtown Buena Vista. Yikes. I'm thinking that ride might be a little too much for our pseudo BRAG group but I can assure you this was not a one time occassion. Taking the backroads home has me longing for a Ulysses in the worst way. I've been stuffing my 6'3" frame into a lightning for a bit too long. Drop a post when you'll be in the area and I'd love to come out and have a chat. We heard about the extra long ride home on your KTM dualsport!! NUTS

Glad you liked it. Too far for your group? Heck, Roanoke's local! Maybe I'll ride down one morning, pick y'all up and lead you back...
I'm putting my S-3 back together tomorrow, if the creek don't rise, so that will be nice to have again. It's been laid up since early June; getting the business going sucked up all available time.

Make sure you tell your friends how much you liked the food, BTW. Word-of-mouth is mighty powerful!

Jason,
Here is the LVT with her little sister. The new wood is a big improvement over the original chunk o' walnut.
Shot some groups today and am fairly bummed. The bottom row is 20 yards and the top is 50 yards. All can be covered by a penny. Notice the third one on the top row. When the wind stopped blowing I managed to squeeze that one off and was pretty tickled. Giving strong consideration to taking it tomorrow and trying for a bird. Since I already bagged one this year it won't be a big deal if I miss LOL!
Chauly,
Do you own a eating establishment? If so perhaps Jason can drag me up there in the near future to support a fellow pocket bike rider.

Jackie, I know you had your phone on silent because you didn't want those kids asking you what that "classical" ringtone was! I went to RF and picked up my certificate and dropped off my Taurus. The barrel would not come out of the slide. The guy there wailed on it pretty good in the back room too. It is being sent back FREE and will hopefully have the sights aligned and the trigger cleaned up. I can only hope their customer service is a good as Cooper. They said the 9mm should be back in under a week. I also took the opportunity to pick up an Ithaca model 37 "Turkey Slayer." I would also like to be called by this nickname whenever possible. LOL. 12 guage, 3" chamber, full camo with removeable chokes, 24 inch barreled thunder clap. I always wanted a model 37 but never had a use for one, until now. BBWWWAAAAHHAAAAA. NUTS

I'll also be sticking with my Lightning, I love that thing: and Buell is crazy about their financing! Check out the "cool buell pics" page too. There is a post by "Lonexb" of a white buell with way, way radical bodywork.

I took the grandkid's fishing in the pond behind the townhouse yesterday. Caught three good size large mouth bass and about a half doz. crappe in about two hours. We just catch and release, Im not getting into all that fish cleaning thing.

Charlie,
My bird was a Jake while Jasons' was a very nice three year old. However, I think even Nuts will tell you that I worked much harder for mine. Besides it isn't the size of the beard its' how you use it. Almost had another one today. Jason and I were working him pretty good when a storm blew in and put a hault to the hunt. I wanted to wait it out but Jason was whining about getting wet LOL.
Its all good though. I think that ole' Florida boy may have some hunting potential if he just pays attention and continues to learn from the master of all things outdoors.
Jason,
Ithaca is a fine gun. I don't want any crying though when it gets all scratched up and rusty from being caught in one of those unexpected thunderstorms (todays' was pretty intense huh?).
I can't believe after cradling my LVT today you didn't break down and score a .17! You have mucho willpower but I believe you will break when we go up to the club shooting.

Add another groundhog to the LVT kill list. I stumbled upon a few more in the woods and decided to save them for another day when you are able to go. Of course since you are still stuck with just the 22lr you may have to run up and whack it on the head instead of shooting it.
Today I used the Hornady Vmax loads and the results were impressive. Instant death with a tiny entrance hole with no exit. Guess it just went in and exploded.
Several gobbles were heard so I guess it will be another early morning on Monday.
Also got in a nice little ride today. Rode around town and made a pitstop at RF. The guy said he almost has your Ithaca ready. Just needs to finish up the swivel and you will be ready to roll. I think when the season goes to all day hunting I am going to try the HMR. I truly believe it will work nicely.

Glad to hear you are keeping tabs on my interests. It is also good to hear you are back on the bike for a little confidence building. I squeezed us in on some private land come deer season to take some trophy bucks. Details later. I need to buy some turkey loads, should I go with the 3"? What number shot do I need? The next day off will be Wed. Then Friday. I can roost either night before. I almost called you to go fishing after work yesterday. Off to work, again. NUTS

Oh man you have really sparked my interest now!! I'm always up for the chance to hunt new land for deer.
I would get #2,4or6. Nothing smaller than that. Buy the hottest load you can find. It certainly won't make for pleasant shooting but in the excitement of the moment you won't even think about it.
Wed. morning sounds like a winner. Bring the 10/22 as well and I'll introduce you to one of the hogs that has been living right under our noses. I saved him for you since there is enough cover to sneak in for a 50 yard shot. The one I whacked yesterday was an 85 yard shot. Not especially far but still pleased with the results. I have quickly learned that the LVT shoots much better than I can. I do not see being able to take advantage of its' range on Squirrels past 75 yards since I can't hold it steady enough. I think under the right circumstances a 100 yard shot on a decent size Raccoon or larger varmint would be feasable.

Charlie,
Thanks for the heads up.
So did you ever get that street rod?

Jason,
Another cold and very wet morning. I saw 1 hen and 6 Jakes. Let them all walk since I didn't feel like I really earned them.
Only heard 2 different Gobblers all morning which is a bummer. I worked the one bird pretty hard but never could get him to commit. Oh well, tomorrow or Wed. may be the day for that ole' longbeard.
I think the birds got an early start to the breeding season and are not as "hot" as they were last week. Gonna' make for some hard hunting over the next few weeks.
I found a very easy way to get to the top of the 400 meter range so we'll take the easy route next time.
See ya Wed at 5:30a.m. SHARP.

2. "just to let you guys know i got a 2,2-3rd and a 4th. at cmp this weekend"

Good job, Keith! It was nice to meet ya Friday, BTW. You'll have to cruise up to BV and have a hot dog (waaayy better than "Roanoke's" or the place next door!)

I got my S-3 put back together, and it is making a noise that I'd like you to listen to with a "trained ear". When you come up this way, I'll buy you lunch...

Jackie,
We have other stuff besides the hot dogs, typically the Special of the Day. They vary, but today, for example, she's got pork BBQ (mine!), chicken noodle soup (homemade, of course), and "Black & Blue" grilled steak salad. Thursday's Pinto Beans & Cornbread as another example... We've talked about the hamburger thing, but it is a whole 'nother infrastructure to put them together, and it puts us in direct competition with Hardee's, Burger King, etc. I think people value-shop burgers for the most part, and we couldn't compete price-wise.
What is it in hot dogs that you're allergic to?

Jason, who was up there with you?

Chauly,
I am allergic to the Nitrites used to preserve some foods. I also am allergic to spices. Even the smell of spicy foods set me off. I stopped by Jasons' one day on the bike and he was cooking some sort of Taco sauce concotion. I didn't even make it home before I started having serious reactions. Now I don't stop by unexpectedly anymore.
Perhaps when we journey up I'll just have a double order of fries (watch it Jason, thems' my fries).
Those groups actually sucked. They were my first attempt at dialing in the new HMR. The latest batch of groups were all 4 shot cloverleafs from 25 and 50 yards. At 75 and 100 it still held them well within one inch. I know the gun can do better but I can't. Remington 700 in 6mm is a fine piece o' gear. Me thinks you ought to consider making a trip down for some predator calling with us. Jason and I dove pretty deep into it this past season and had a blast each time we went. Something about sounding like a dying rabbit and being stalked by a predator in the pitch black. Every rustle of leaves makes your heart rate jump x 2. Then when you hit the light and see those eyes shining back at ya' the excitement really kicks into high gear. Just waiting for the day when we hit the lights and a bear is standing in front of us.

Jason,
As promised I am not going to get on here and tell anyone about how you scared my gobbler off by jumping up to pee. No matter how hard anyone asks I am not going to tell them how I told you to sit tight but you just couldn't wait. They can twist my arm til' it breaks but I refuse to tell them about how you simply cannot hold still. No siree, they won't hear it from me!
If opening day is cancelled tomorrow I am going to head on up there again in the morning to kill that freakin' bird. He has outsmarted us too many times. Even if it is a Jake he is going to develop a fatal case of lead poisoning.
Thanks again for the ammo and I'll see you Sunday for some Smallmouth fishing. Just make sure you pee before we go!!
