So, I have a confirmed track day for the 24th at Summit Point with TPM. This will be my first official track day and I am really stoked. Any advice from the "vets" will be appreciated. Also, anybody want to get in on the action. The 24th is a Monday and they still have some space available.

OK.. Not really a 'vet' but I've done a couple of schools (Pridmores CLASS).. And, I'll be there on the 24th.

Hmmm..
Do you have all the gear you'll need?
What kind of riding suit?
Gloves and boots?
How are your tires and brakes?
How old is your lid?
You will need a hard back protector.
Are you going to trailer or ride in?
Water. / light food?
Bring extra gas.

If they don't have time to mail you a member kit, they will (at the track) have a Med-Tag for your helmet. You'll need to fill it in and stick it on. Bring a ballpoint pen. Know your Medical info and Emg.-contacts.

Uh.. What else would you like to know? I've been going round n round with my bike getting ready for the season. So I'm hoping I didn't miss a thing.

Well, I've got all the gear and I will have new tires one week before the track day. The only issue is riding there with the extra gear I will have. It would be nice to have trailer. I may just rent a cargo van and put everything in there. My bike will have about 3000 miles on it by the 24th, do you think I should change the brake pads also and should I stick with the stock ones or look to something else? As for tire, Pirelli Diablo Corsas are what I am leaning towards based on the many favorable comments by the Badwebbers.

If you have the time, and want to change out at least your front pads, I really like the Lyndal Gold pads (see Al at American Sport Bike). They run around $55 a set and have a really stringent bed in procedure (thanks Jose for the help) but they work awesome even on the stock rotor. From my experience and in talking with other riders, the stock pads on the stock rotor have a tendancy to warp at rapid heat and cooling cycles that a track will pound on. The Lyndal's seem to help out and dissapate heat more evenly reducing the warping (this is according to AL) issues.

Good luck, ride safe, and have a great time!!

Yes, we'll be in NJ with Linda's parents and drive over early Sunday Morning.

Mio..I'm using the Diablo Corsas right now, So far, I like them, they've run really well on the street so far. I'll have a better opinion once I've seen how they run on the track.

Are you taking ART basic that day? Should be a good time, I'll give you a brief on it later, since I'm taking it this Saturday. Yep, I'm a 'white' as well. Or are you hiding a secret racing license somewhere and going out in one of the other groups?

OK, don't forget about taping everything, and I'm pretty sure that they don't sell gas at Summit, so you'll need to figure a way to bring some with ya. Last time I was on the track, I actually ran out of gas before the last session ended and had to pull in.. Day over.

Hmmm.. Let's see.. I'm not sure what else I can tell ya.. Perhaps we can still work some sort of co-operative thing for these days.

I'll talk to ya later.

I am taking the ART Basic. Tried to get in for this week but they were booked. I hope the weather holds up for you. I may even stop by if I can get out.

BTW, I was also looking at the new Conti Sport Attacks.

The new Metzeler M3 are awesome, smooth over rough roads, good feedback, good transition. Can't say how they would do on the track, also can't compare them to anything but used up Metzeler M1 tire. One way I judge tires is how confident they make me feel in the curves, the M3 are great. I'll be joining you guys real soon on the track.

Yeah, the Metzelers are nice. I am still somewhat undecided on tires though. The Pirelli Diablo Corsa's seem very good but I also saw the Conti Sport Attacks (not road attacks) that may fit the bill.

Most people I have ask say they love the Corsa, you should go with that I think. I figure I would try the M3 got a break on pricing, plus not many have tried the M3 yet so at least I should try them.

Well, I'm outta here.. on my way to Pocono. Won't have the computer with me, so I'll have to report back about it later.. Right now, weather.com says it's gonna hit.. 41* on Saturday and then soar all the way to 49* on Sunday! Damn, I don't know how well I'll do in that kind of cold.. hehehehe.. But, at least they're not calling for rain anymore.

Jose, I'll see you and Linda up there on Sunday.

7200mi and my belt snaps... on 66 between the TR Bridge and Rosslyn... during rush hour on a Fri evening(6:30pm). Talk about a fun time to walk your bike down the highway. Did I mention there is no shoulder there?

Anyone headed to Homecoming in June? I was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up along the way or could split a room in Appleton, Wi. Is that where everyone will be at/near the host dealership, yet 2 hrs away from the dealership?

Coops, was that you on the yellow lightning with the red firebolt fairing I saw a few weeks back in Rosslyn? I was in my cage and tried to wave you down, you looked over but must have thought I was some nut and goosed the throttle on past me.

I was trying to see if you were coming to the last BRAG meeting.

Everyone remember this Saturday (April 15th), Ft. Washington is having Buell demo days, so if you want to ride the new bikes, now is your chance.

I'm back from Pocono..

Saturday was a true washout.. COLD! Think low 20's.. Rain/Snow/Ice .. Bikes got covered, track ended up being closed before anyone could get a full session in.. it was still not a bad time though, since there were a few Buell types there for that day.

Sunday was much better. Still cold in the morning, but warmed up nicely. Buells everywhere as something like 40 were present! My first session out, I lost feeling in my fingers and had to ride wait to feel major changes in the bike, not able to be subtle with braking. Later, Art Diaz helped re-set my suspension. Very nice.. Yep, he was there as part of the Team Pro-Motion thing..

I think the cold affected me more then I realized as later in the day, (just after lunch) I went into turn 5 later then I had been going all day, and this is where I made a pair of rookie mistakes and went down. So, what happened? Well, after blowing my turn entry and running wide.. I compounded that (second stupid mistake), I looked to see how much track I had left. (brain screaming 'You F***ing Idiot!' the moment I did it) That was it, I was off track.. I hauled in the clutch and dumped the power.. would have been fine if they didn't have a drainage ditch there.. The bike dropped into the first of two depressions and I went ass-over-teakettle my body crashing into the rock lined main drainage channel.

Bike is a damn tank though and came through it almost unscathed. Lost a blinker and need to get the front wheel checked to make sure it's still true. a couple of scrapes on the bodywork. Lots of mud and grass everywhere.. Dang I love this bike! (thought later what it would have been like on an IL4).. as far as gear goes.. I think I totaled my Arai RX-7 Corsair.. hehehehehehe.. and I'm a little bruised and sore.. right shoulder mostly.

Hope that I and the bike will be ready for the next date, April 24th at Summit Point.

Oh.. and to add insult to injury.. I was being videoed.. so they got it on tape. Once I get a copy, maybe we'll hold a viewing.. 'What not to do coming off the back straight at Pocono East'.. hehehehehe..

So I take you are living up to your name...

Black and Blue????

Glad you came out with only minor bumps and bruises. I know the feeling about the bike being a tank, especially after my little dump back at Lavale this past October. It is amazing how well they hold up and show little damage after a dump like that.

Good to hear you are still in one piece. Sounds like you had fun anyway and the bike survived. Are you still thinking of Summit Point on the the 24th?

Still need a little help on brakes. I ordered my Pirelli Diablo Corsa's yesterday and was thinking of also changing the front brake pads. The bike has about 3200 miles on it thought might as well change the pads while the wheels are off. I need them mostly for street and for a few track days. Any recommendations? Please chime in.

Mio, as long as there are no mechanical problems, I'm going to be at Summit. Of course, now that I really want a tech to look it over, none seem available.

When I told the guy on the phone that I am on the track again on the 24th, I get a .. "Well, we could probably take a look at it on the 27th." DUH! Now I'm supposed to try and get it up there (Frederick) on Thursday, before they close, so they can look at it and get it back to me on Saturday.. Maybe.

A quick visual shows nothing wrong, but I don't want something out of spec when I'm counting on it to be solid at speed. That would just suck too much..

Mio, if everything works out, look for me at the track, we'll pit together. Anyone else planning on being there that wants to join us for a little 'Team Too Slow' gathering?

Mio,

I really like my Lyndal Gold pads I got from Al at American Sport Bike. They stop really good on the stock rotor of my tuber. As for your XB, not sure how they would act. Al would be the best to answer that question.

The only issue with them that I have seen is the crazy bed in procedure, but after that is over, then they work awesome.

Blublak,
It would be great if you can make it. I am contemplating staying overnight on Sunday so I don't have to leave my house at the crack of dawn to get there.

Thanks Bluelightning,

I just ordered the pads from AL. Can you tell me a little more about the bed-in procedure. AL was not there so I did not get the scoop.

Thanks
Mio

Perform at your own risk, death or injury may occur...this is my own little disclaimer

Accelerate from stop to designated speed and repeat indicated stop condition. Note: .45G decel does not require brake lock up

10 stops from 20 to 0mph at .45G(15 pfss) deceleration

10 stops from 40 to 0mph at .45G Decel

Park the bike and cool down pads and rotor to ambient tempature

Warranty is void if you do not follow the break procedures...

The procedure is listed on the back of the package.
When i perform this i do a stoppies each and everytime...not recommended though and not needed.

There some other things you should do when you swap out the pads. Clean the brake pistons and bleed the system for best results.

Since no one that I know of has a "G" meter handy that I could borrow I called Al to say WTF!! From what Al informed me, was that .45g was the same as almost doing a stopie but not quite. So if you put your body into a 45 degree forward position of what you normally ride when you are doing the stop, then you should be about .45g's. I chickened out and had Jose help me bed mine in (thanks Jose!!) as he has much more time on the buell braking system than I do.

Hey Guys, Saw a blue 03 9R at Carolina Beach N.C. today. Had Virginia tags on it, and also some nose damage. Looks like whomever was riding, got to ride the nose and dash of the front. Not to bad, windshield caused some body damage, and snapped the magnesium frame but otherwise, no other serious damage. Parked with a red Camaro. Figured someone in Va. might know him. Left him a Badweb note just in case.
