Kristi...I got your pm. No problem. I'll drop by the agency on the way in and see if I'm the early bird. I hope to get on the road by 9,or 9:30. I still might go a back way, or straight down 421. Got a new set of saddlebags to try out. I'm off work Thursday and will be working on the bike. Needs front pads and grips re-glued. Jim R, Glenn? If you want to meet up and ride in together let me know. Otherwise I'll see everyone at the cabin. Looking forward to it. Later...

Well the truck is packed and the Blast! is loaded onto the trailer! Jim & Rebecca we'll see you in the AM. CD player is loaded and coffee is ready to brew.

I've sent PM/e-mails to Nutsosane and Glitch in case they can make it to Boone. They have the cabin address and my cell number.

Safe travels to everyone!

Sounds like C3 has landed in Blowing Rock. I can almost hear them from here : )

I just got done getting the M2 ready,,,,Boog made the last minute decision to ride along (of course he's @ a concert with his chick in Asheville and dad's here getting his gear together and checking out the Cyclone.) It's going to be mid 40's when we roll out so I'm hopeful that it's dry. It won't be warming up any as we climb the mountains.

It was another successful C3 Adventure. I hate it that so many could not make it and that the weather did not cooperate as much as we would have liked. Those that did not make it were missed, but for those of us that did still had a great weekend.

On Friday, Mark, Kristi and I loaded up children and drove them to school. I rode Carlee to school on the Uly. After going back once to school to drop off things Carlee forgot at school, I rode off to Jim's house in Raleigh. I beat Kristi there but not by much. Once she and Mark arrived with "Minnie" already on the trailer, Jim and I gave the C3 recover vehicle a motorcycle escort out of town. Once on the road the rain started and Jim and I continued ahead leaving Ulywife, RAM and Webe to enjoy Linda Ronstadt. Webe was singing "I've been cheated, been mistreated..." when we all got back together in Boone. Twig made it to the cabin, first around 1pm with Jim and I getting there at 2pm, but passing the cabin for an hour before finally finding it. Ulywife, RAM and Webe pulled in just after us. Finally XBser got there after dark, the C3's on search and rescue operation getting Glen and Pizza back to the cabin.

Intersection of US421 and Blue Ridge Parkway on Friday. It looked allot better in this picture than it did Sunday morning when the clouds were lower than the 3500' elevation of the intersection.

C3 Central Boone

Jlnance, Big Daddy and Webe

Webe joined us for his first adventure to the mountains. He got his cage rattled out there on the Snake but hung tough and did incredibly well keeping up with Jim and I on the twisty with "Ellen's" Blast. Going back up 181 a couple of leather matching sport bike riders got behind the group after we passed them waiting for us to go by on a side road. Webe finally did get passed by the color matching duo, but we were almost at the top of the hill and they did it on a long straight where they out powered him. I was in front setting the pace with Jim impressing me on his Blast within a stone's throw of me. The leather clad duo never caught the two of us and eventually turned off. I can only imagine what they were thinking with these two red/reddish thumpers went by and they having to wait for a straight away to get by one and never even getting close to the other.

We were also able to meet TomR. Tom I appreciate you making it up to meet up with us and showing us some of the roads. We did take 221 back to Blowing Rock and the road is great.

With the rain came Noah's arc. With the arc we have them come in twos. As in two Ulys, two XB9s, two Blast, then one XB12s and one tuber an M2.

Jim and Mark trading Thumper notes with "Mickey & Minnie" in the fore-front

The Blast is a great bike. I had the opportunity to ride "Minnie" up to the Snake and took a few curves with it.
As for me on the Blast, well I had a blast. I did find that hard contact can be found much easier than a Uly. First hard left hander I toss the bike over and found the peg hard. I see something skipping along the road next to me and even though it looked like a rock, I thought I had popped something off the bike. I looked down and started doing inventory. Peg! Check and secure! Shifter! Check and secure! I guess the rock just happened to be in the way because nothing was missing but some rubber off the foot peg.

So I change my riding position. I move up on the bike, get my feet up as much as possible and start hanging off the bike when I came upon a Firebolt sitting in a pull out in front of me. I decided to check out the guy on the Firebolt and Webe and I traded bikes back there. Jim said he like watching me tossing the Blast around for the few curves I had a chance too. Also if the rest of the bike is not enough for you, how about the fact it was the easiest bike to park.

As I said, I stopped to talk to the guy on the Firebolt to find out he rented the Firebolt from Shelton's of Durham. A Harley rider who is looking at Buells.

On Saturday morning we got up with Big Daddy, Boog and TomR. We met up at Mystery Hill. Jim and I on our Ulys rode up Mystery Hill looking for the cabin and end up doing the most Adventurous ride up a very steep hill. Once I get the software to off load the pictures off the phone I will post the pictures. The Ulys by the way did great. Look at the hill in the background because Jim and I climb it with the Ulys.

We first went for breakfast in Blowing Rock.

Unfortunately the breakfast spot was packed and we decided to ride instead of waiting on breakfast so we left Blowing Rock and headed down 221 to the BRP and then to 181. At the top of 181 we stopped at a General Store for gas.

With Big Daddy leading, TomR co-piloting, we set a good pace down 181 to Morganton. It was a fun ride down. Once in Morganton we stopped at Hardy's for breakfast.

Trying for that Artsy picture using Twig's beautiful Cherry Bomb flyscreen.

After breakfast Big Daddy, Tom and Boog peeled off. The M2's back tire would make Brankin proud so they were off to find a rear tire. The rest of the group headed for Lowe's where Webe and Jim tried to use hose clamps to hold Mickey's rear muffler clamp in place. It apparently broke a couple of days before but Jim could not find where the noise was coming from until Morganton. After the second pass into Lowe's for hose clamps the cashier told Jim if he could get it, she would go out and get it for him. He did not go back out there so we rode it back up 181, 221 and 321 back to the Cabin for a snack a rest from Blast butt and to give time for Ulywife and Ram to get bailing wire to temporarily fix "Mickey" for us guys. Now you know why we bring the girls along, hey we need our pit crew with us.

After the break we change up bikes. Jim jumps his Uly and leaves "Mickey" for repairs. Webe jumps on my Uly and I jump on the Blast. We head to Shade Valley. We had a great ride there. I took several passes on the Snake having a great time and dragging pegs with out dragging bags. I passed a semi going the other way so I turned around passed him back and escorted him through the pass. I have no more chicken strips on my new Continentals which did great on paved and unpaved roads.

Here are a few shots at Shade Valley.

In this first shot you see the two Ulys in front of the Snake painting on the wall of the store in Shady Valley. Jim is next the painting and as you can see and he later found out, he is taller than the signs in front of him.

In this shot several of the leather matching crowd were looking over Twig's Cherry Bomb Lighting.

Here is another shot of the store. I talked to several local riders about the rumors of the locals being vengeful to the motorcyclist in the area. They said on the street there have been no problems, but some dirt bike riders have been trespassing and apparently that has caused some trouble in the past. Today no cops and plenty of the color match leather crowd. One fella just before we got there supermanned his Busa off a cliff and had to be taken to the Hospital via Mini Cooper. No cops were called and the rider will be okay. Maybe a broke finger and scraped knee. The Busa on the other hand is gone. I did not take a picture of it after it was dragged out by a Jeep. This proves once again that Busas do not handle.

We rode down to US321 from Shady Valley and back towards Boone. It would have been a fun ride if it was day light and not raining. The rain started on the way back to Boone and stayed with us the rest of the weekend. Once back at home Ulywife and Ram had a great meal ready for us and we eat and drank and had a good time.

The next morning it was still raining so we did not venture out until it was time to go home. Glen broke off early and Jim, Twig and I rode down the BRP to US421 in heavy fog and misty rain. It did not get better until we got down the mountain. Twig pulled off in Greensboro as Jim and I rode back to Raliegh. Some thirty minutes behind us the C3 search and rescue pulled up. We off loaded "Mickey" and loaded my Uly up for the ride home. Made it back here around 5pm.

As Ulywife stated Carlee and I two-upped on Minnie back to Webe's place. Blast are truly a fun bike just to go out and play on. A great trip again, we will have to start planning the '07 calendar.

Not to worry, I still haven't gotten the decals out of the trunk of the Uly. Tonight I've got PTA, so it will probably be tomorrow! See, I told you how it would go!

Great pictures! Maybe these pics will bring more of the C3 crowd out for the next adventure.

Jim R. you were missed. You would have been proud of Jim & Mark on their Blasts. Jim pushed me most of the way up 181 as long as I wouldn't cheat and use the second cylinder on the straights.
