Did you actually make it on Sunday?

I like it but the number of bikes & manufacturers was down quite a bit.

A few quick impressions & then its beddie bye time.

The new Honda CBR 600RR is going to be a hot seller & looks great.

The Victory Vegas is very sharp, but a little cramped for me.

The 999 & 749 Ducatis are gorgeous in person but both are torture racks. I wouldnt want to put 50 miles on one.

The Ducati Multistrada is much much better looking in person than in pics.

Harleys display sucked..nothing worth talking about.

Same with the tiny Buell area. Loved the 2 midgets they had there.

The Benelli Tornado is very cool looking, but those weird scooters with the roofs were very odd.

The Suzuki SV1000 is ugly & over rated.

Kawasakis new Z1000 is pretty nice in the orange paint job. Feels real light & tiny. The new 636 ninja looks just like all their other bikes...boring.

BMW is really coming on strong. The boxer cup replica is sweet, the K1200GT is my pic for bike of the show tho. Electric everything & loaded with all the toys. kinda like a goldwing that went on Jenny Craigs diet. 130 hp with plenty of power to spare.

Pics to come later today.

I also found Yamahas version of the XB9SLOW.

This one is a lot cheaper & probably more fun to ride:D

yeah, I was disappointed inthe show as well . . . fewer displays, more people (which is good, I'm thinking) and the Cycle World show went from 20/25 bikes down to 6 . . . . . no good looking customs at all

the Kaw 1000 is alright, except for the Captain Zoom mufflers (ugh!) . . . . the multistrada IS better looking in person, I agree . . . .the MVs still knock me out!

stopped by the HOG/BRAG both to re-up, and the guy behind the counter said, "I'm busy typing something . . . .it'll be a while."

guess what I didn't do?

he seemed confused when I said thanks but no thanks, and wandered off

I agree with the oddball mufflers. Too damn weird looking.

Did ya see that new Triumph 600 Daytona? Very angular & kinda funky looking. Im not sure if I like it or not.

yeah, I did . . . .. I still doubt Triumph's sanity at jumping into the 600 market . . . .without Honda like capitalization, I can't see em doing too well in that shark-infested pool . . . . competition's way too far ahead for them ever to catch up . . . you'd need Buell-like owners to want that bike, and I don't see Triumph as having that owner based yet (slightly loopy and liking trains (grin)

Hey fellas, any pics of the Benelli? How about news about the 950 KTM Duke?

That Benelli was hot....The silver and green was just beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. I thought it was the best looking non-Buell there.

I had some mixed feelings about the market overall based on what i saw at the show as well. Ducati/Aprillia/Triumph had much smaller displays than in years past. A ducati guy told me they aren't importing the S4 (liquid cooled Monster) into the US due to slow sales! On the other hand, the show itself was packed.

did Honda have that 'Rune' cruiser Valkarie thingy there or did i just miss it?

Bomber,

If your looking for paint work, I might be able to help you out....I paint race bodywork on the side to help pay for my racing habit. I've probably done about 50 bikes so far. I'm set up in my garage to paint scoots and can probably help you out pretty reasonable, especially if your talking Black as i have a lot left that will be bad after this year did a fleet of 5 endurance team bikes). Only bad part is my garage isn't well insulated so its usually march before the temps warm up enough to do anything.

Later!

Wes, Honda had the Rune there. It was on a turntable near the entrance. Big ole ugly beast.

The Benelli is very hot looking. I took a couple pics but havent uploaded them yet.

Don, KTM wasnt there, or art least I didnt see em & I wandered thru the whole place about 4 times.
Quite a few of the smaller players werent there. KTM, MV, MZ, Enfield, etc.

Wes,

I'd hate to be that guy's date at Halloween. Gross.

Hey, when does your racing schedule start? CJM and I would like to be groupies and hang out with Stacey.

Hey Grape! Sweet! my first groupie! (or were you talking about being Stacey's groupie????).
i'm going for points in two series this year, Supermotard and AHRMA Formula 2 twins. All the supermotard races are at Briggs and Stratton Motorplex at Road America. Stacey pretty much goes to all of them....I'll be racing a 440cc YZ426F Yamaha in middleweight super and an XR100 in mini motard. Beautiful surrounding area to ride up there! I think its a $15 gate fee to get in. Stacey likes the supermotard stuff the best as there are lots of crashes, great racing, and you can see the whole 3/4 mile/15 turn course. Participants are encouraged to punt on a stunt show on the cool down lap as well so thats a lot of fun. That schedule is as follows:

Round 1 - 4/27
Round 2 - 5/25
Round 3 - 6/6,7,8 (held in conjunction with AMA
superbike races)
Round 4 - 7/6
Round 5 - 8/10
Round 6 - 9/26/27/28 (national event)

superbikers2.com is the web site for the series and has a lot more detail there.

I'll be racing the Buell in the AHRMA Formula 2 twins class. Schedule is all over the place....the races I'm planning on hitting are the following:

2/26-28 North Florida Motorsports park (jenning)
3/3-4 Daytona
6/21 Grattan (Michigan)
7/18-20 Mid Ohio
8/16-17 Putnam (Indiana)
10/25-26 Barber Motorsports park (Alabama)

Of those, Grattan is probably the closest....not much of a destination ride though. If you were considering any of them, I would suggest mid ohio, as it is held during Vintage Days. Gigantic swap meet, demo rides, etc, etc, etc. Good time to be had by all! Putnam is my home track and I've done my best there in the past, but its in BF no where and is one of the smaller events.

In addition to all that , we are going to Bonneville in August as well and I'd like to get a track day or two in....This is assuming i don't crash in any parking lots this year and remain healthy! Hope to see you there!!!!! (so does stacey I'm sure).

Regards,

Wes
