Okay, so there's four of us that we know of so far....

99X1, Caboose and Kahuna: let's stay in touch and keep each other apprised of events, rides, tech info.... and more Buellers!

99X1 and I are headed to California with a few buddies in March for two weeks riding. We'll post pictures for sure...

Caboose, 99X1 and I are headed for Mosport and the Ducati Club Tack Rally in May... Why not join us for that too Kahuna?

Look forward to seeing everyone in the spring or sooner.

I sent my registration form for the Mosport Rally on Friday. I'm signed up of the RED (fast) group. I hope I don't get run over on the back straight. Jordan Szoke, reigning Canadian Superbike Champion, was getting speeds of 270kph on his GSXR-1000 there this year. What kind of speeds can a Ducati reach when given room to stretch its legs? Although the X1 feels like she's doing 270kph, the best I've ever seen is around 220kph. I figure I'll be doing 220kph by the time I crest the "hump" which is about halfway up the straight. What will I do then???

I've never been to or heard about Lightning days at Shannonville. Is it like a demo ride, but on the racing circuit?

my bro owned a 996, and wholly crap! that thing is insane. i would say it would easily do 280+ ... it does 120 in first! he's not much of a track person, so he ended up getting rid of it, his wrists were starting to fall off

yeah you're exactly right. you pay $60, yes that's six zero, for a whole day of beating the crap out of the bolts (including lunch, race suite, boots and gloves)! its insane amounts of fun, and i met some great people from all over. good looking girls too! one of them was awesome on the track!! i believe they have it every year sometime in august, your dealer would know the details.

Lornce, I've ordered some Racetech springs for my X1's forks. Would it be OK to bring them / bike out to the next airheads meeting for an install, or is it strictly a BMW get2gether?

Caboose,

Bring 'em along, be great to see em. You'll likely make the fourth Buell rider in attendance at this Airhead function.

Got the '96 S1 through official import inspection tonight, had it safety certified at the same time too. Only tense moment occurred when brake light failed to function. 99X1 was with me, and he noticed the battery was at about 8.6 volts.... Which rendered the LED tail/brake light useless.... Quick install of conventional 1157 bulb and the brake light functioned.... even at 8.6 volts.... So now the S1 has legal 'landed immigrant' status.... Just like me. :)

Hope to see you on the 22nd.

Hey Caboose, the red group is one of the 'fast touring' groups. The green 'hotshoe' group is actually the fast group. Maybe not too late to change yer reg? Lots of serious fast mofo's on liquid cooled race bikes in the green group.... Hmmmmn.... Maybe I should scale back to join you in the red 'fast touring' group.... Naaahh! Come on man, let's go fer the gusto.... :)

Hey Kahuna, why not post yer new bike pic here too? You sure like that 'ant cam' angle, eh? What's it look like if yer not passed out on the floor? :)

hehehehe, actually i have one of those digital cameras that tilt! how about this one?

i'm really tempted on the ducati track day. i probably wont be able to take this bike though. if the weather doesn't cooperate, it wont be broken-in by then. besides, the X1 rules, and i'd probably rather take it instead. are you taking your S1?

Hey, I like the look of that little 'grocery getter' in the background. Bet that's hardly any fun at all, eh.... :)

Yea, am planning to run the S1 Saturday and Sunday.... Wouldn't mind trying the S3 on the track either, though.... Also like to run the Suzuki on Monday, if it's still around.... Am also curious to see how the modded R100 would pull up the back straight compared to a certain other boxer that's likely to be there.... I'm starting to feel guilty about the prospect of so much fun.... :)

If you guys need a place to crash (for free) with blueberry pancakes and cappucinos in the morning, let me know. Er, um, I think my roomate might put up with you all if it is just one night.

Hey Charlotte,

That's mighty neighborly of you. Have been known to cut across the U.P. Wisconsin and Minnesota when work calls me to the top left corner of Ontario. But the drive around Lake Superior's Canadian North Shore's a lot nicer.... :)

*May* ride to Oshkosh for the fly-in again this summer. Would the offer still hold if I'm on one of my old BMW's?

Ok....I must have miss-read the registration form. I thought GREEN was the race class, RED was the fast class, YELLOW was the spill-over for the RED group (most popular class???) BLUE was fast touring class and ORANGE was the slow...ahem...touring class. I'm quick but I don't feel like being a pilon for the race guys. I'd prolly' end up with a serious case of windburn if I went out in the race class. Now I'm judging relative speeds on pervious trackday experience, maybe the Ducati boys / girls take it easy?

This is looking great. We truly will be "Team Buell" at the Mosport Rally. So that's Lornce, 99X1, Kahuna, myself, and maybe Don? from "Stay Tuned Performance" (hope I got that right). Don raced in the Canadian Thunder Series right? I better start working on some pit banners and line-up some strippers...I mean umbrella girls!

Actually Caboose, you may be doing the wise thing.... Some of those modern liquid cooled Ducatis are serious fast.... There's gonna be guys out there on big bore multi Bimotas too.... Could make for some big speed desparities.... Have to keep the corner speeds high to even the score.... :)

What were your cornering limitations on the X1? Did hard parts actually lever your wheels off the track at race pace?

Yea, Don Morris of Stay Tuned Systems is planning to join us.... I'm assuming he's signed up for the 'hotshoe' class.... He'll likely have some 'engine surprises' going on by then too.... Should be interesting....

You guys coming to the Tech Day on the 22nd in Ancaster?

The stock rubber outriggers, I mean foot pegs had to go. They touch down easily at street speeds. I replaced them with billet pieces from "Storz Performance" problem solved. The side stand touches down on the street also, so its an absolute must to remove for the track. I've ground down my brake pedal at the track, the picture in my profile was taken just before it would touch down. The racetech fork springs I've ordered will help with the ground clearance issues, and cranking the rear preload when on the track helps a bunch too.

I'll need directions to the meeting on the 22nd. I know Ancaster fairly well. I used to live in Jersyville.
