Is there some place around here, where I could get some track experience?

Hi Kimberley,
I'm not sure, but I think you may be able to get some track time out at Sandia raceway. I know they have a couple of tracks out that way. I used to ride at Camino Seco down west of Las Cruces. they have a nice track down there, and you can reserve the whole track for your group.
Perhaps the BRAG group should look into doing something like that this summer.

Are you ready to do some riding? It's warming up finally here in the desert. : )

Thanks Bart,

Ready to ride? I've been riding almost every weekend, still a bit cold for the daily commute. Soon, I hope to be riding again daily.

About the track days, I have been talking with some friends who are instructors in WA. Doing a track day was their suggestion. It seems like it would be a very worth while experience.

If the BRAG group here would be willing to do something along that line, I'd be really glad to help.

Kim

Yo Bart...howya doin'? Seems your keeping the NM thread lively. Reminds me of a certain AZ thread a few years back.

All's well here. Same ole same ole...still just riding to and from work. Damn rear tire is about square from the fricken freeway!

You're name got mentioned on the SacBorg by the way...Aaron posted your dyno from the S2 after explaining the tough go you had with brand "M" cylinders. Go check it out...

Be safe! I've got a couple of cold ones waiting for ya the next time you're in town!

Brian,
Sorry to hear about your tire issues, LOL.
You need to get out more often there, family man! : )
I checked out that thread you were talking about.
Yea, Aaron did a GREAT job with the bike. It's tight, it's strong, and it's running like a bat-out-of-hell! : )
He's a real stand up guy, I'm definitly taking my next bike up there. It's sucks that such a big controversy started over that. I just wanted my bike fixed right. Aaron's got some great people working for him, did you know that BullieDan started working there?

I'll take you up on them beers here in a couple of weeks, I need to swing by my storage unit and get some stuff, might as well do some riding while i'm out there!

Kim,
glad to hear your getting in some ride time.
the track days are certainly a good experience, and a good way to hone your skills off the public roads.
We will certainly get you in the loop when we look into the local tracks for track days.

Bart-
Iowa contingent update: We are still planning on the Springfast ride and have picked up a couple more potential riders.
We had a snow day a couple of weeks ago so that extended the school until 5/30. Those 4 guys will leave that night.
Another BMW rider that I work with wants to come but his wife may have work conflicts.
My son's college doesn't get out until 5/31 and we were planning on coming out together since he is going to live in W. Pueblo this summer. If he doesn't have to start his job right away he may ride too.
Another guy with a Beemer may come and another one who is getting a new FJR may come.
I am assuming that BluzM2 is still planning and Alex is still a possible.

Hey Mike,
Sounds good! The more the merrier! : )
We have been selected for one of BRAG's "wicked twisty" tours. We will put this on sometime in September I think.
I certainly hope Alex will be able to make it, been awhile since I've seen the young man. I'm sure I'll see him at Bratpac II if I miss him here though. : )
I'm still trying to pry the local riders out of the wood work here, it seems they have all scattered with the wind. The local dealership here in Albuquerque has changed hands, and I can't get an honest answer from anyone as to the status of the BRAG group. Santa Fe HD/Buell still has Murrae though, and is actively trying to get their group Zia Thunder up and riding for the season. As you can see above, we've created a pretty aggressive ride schedule for the upcoming year. I only hope some of the locals will show up, so far the replies to my emails have been few.
Anyway, the rides are there, I look forward to seeing you guys again this year, and am also looking forward to my ride cross country in the summer. This is going to be a busy year!

Bart

Did I spot Murrae over at advrider.com with a new Uly...and one for Mabel too?

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122602

Hey guys-
I'm 6-1 with a 34" inseam and my uly fits fine with the stock seat. My wife is 5-6 and her bike fits fine with the low seat and proper suspension adjustment. Don't let hte tallness scare you away until you've ridden one that is properly set up.
We're on our way to Phoenix and then Death Valley for a week of on/off pavement riding. I'll try to post when we return.

Damn,
You guys that live out where you can really ride these bikes make me jealous.
I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up and investigate all of those back trails. When we were riding up and down the Apache Trail last year I kept seeing all of these roads off to nowhere. I wished I had the DR650 to see where they went.

It was really nice yesterday. we managed to get out and enjoy some curves and sunshine.
Murrae has some great rides set up for the dual-purpose/adventure riders. Maybe you should plan on an extended stay down here and bring both bikes, LOL. : )

Local BRAG riders:
Just a reminder that this coming weekend is our first official ride of the season.

March12- HOG/BRAG meeting- meet @SFHD 10:00 ride to Smoke House- Rio Rancho- Jemez afterwards. I'll be at the dealership an hour early around 9AM, looking forward to meeting and riding with you!

Bart,

I haven't forgotten about you. I just have a hell of a time getting a chance to call.

I've been applying for jobs like a madman and my wife has had a few interviews. Looking good for now.

If things go well, its likely that I'll be back by the end of April, maybe sooner. Haven't had any opportunity to ride lately. Sucks.

Hope your ride is good on Sunday. I hope you get a few bites. Have you talked to Luis the photographer from Santa Fe? He's got a 12S and is a descent rider, usually comes out. WOuld be nice if you could drag one or both of Murrae's boys out of their hiding spot. Ben really is a spectacular rider. Nick Karnezis, Miche Bove, and others are usually up for something, especially this time of year when they've been sitting around all winter.

Anyway, hope all goes well. Talk to you soon.

ZIA THUNDER BRAG MEMBERS !!!

This weekends ride, March 12th will be cancelled due to high Winds, rain, and potential snow. this ride was supposed to be up over the Jemez, I don't think that will be possible with the snow.
Perhaps we can still have a meet-and-greet.
Ping me if you'd still like to get together for coffee, and meet each other.

THE NEXT SCHEDULES RIDE IS NEXT SUNDAY, THE 18TH OF MARCH.

Good luck with your job search, looking forward to having you back in the area.
I've only received two replies to the mass emailings. Murrae's sons have not replied back. Their email addresses are Zia Thunder addresses, and with the website down, their email addresses are no longer good. : (

Weather has turned pretty bad this weekend, doesn't look like anyone will be doing any riding.

just letting everybody know that on april 6th we(arizona desert thunderbikers) will be hosting our first official BRAG ride.its open to anybody who wants to go regardless of whether you a club member or even a buell owner.we are still trying to get conformation on whether eric buell or john (ceo) are going to make it but that is the plan. either way it should be a great time. so if you can make it that would be great, it would be nice to have a good showing for the factory.the ride will be approx 325miles,it will leave from chandler harley/buell at 9 am we'll then ride to show low and then loop over the 260 to the 87 back. breakfast will be provided at the shop and lunch in show low. also the first 25 people to preregister will get a free pass into bike week that night.you can register at ThunderAZ@msn.com please if you plan on going please register so we know how many are going.if you have any questions you can email jeremy at the above address or call me at 602-750-9303 or email at abroughton@ridenow.com

DAve,
That Snap Red is about to change to Pearl white when I switch out the bodywork with my older S2. I'm going to get the red bodywork repaired and then painted Caribbean Candy Blue.
How are things with you? Are you still in the midwest? You need to come back for a visit one of these days,
New Mexico has some tasty roads! I'm sure you wouldn't mind taking the S1W out for a spin. : )

The 1995 Pearl White S2 at the dealership in Anchorage, AK is what really drew me in to Buells. I can still remember that bike and the price tag. :-) I'd love to get an extra set of body work for mine as well. That Caribbean Blue is simply terrific as well. Then again... the Sapphire Pearl is just sexy. Come to think of it...the Yellow jacket Pearl (My Dad has on his S2) is as sweet as honey on a warm day..... Ah hell... I like the S2.

I'm in Birmingham, AL now for the last year. 10 minutes from Barbers. Big races coming up ya know! http://www.barbermotorsports.com/ama.html Hey...drop me a note Art and plan on coming over for the BIG races April 21-23.

NM/AZ...I would love to move out west but we shall see. Maybe next year.

DAve,
not likely I can make it in April, but my gal and I will be going back east in June for two weeks and coming back via the southern route. Perhaps we can do an overnighter in your neck of the woods. : )
I remember well the price I paid for my first S2, $10,590. I didn't bicker at all, just gave them the cash! I wanted that bike sooooo bad. Still have it, it's got about 150,000 miles on the odo. It was the bike that got stolen and prompted me to purchase your bike, and the red bike. I never wanted to be without a Buell again.
Now look at me, a Buellwhore, lol.
That red S2 has an NRHS 1250 kit in it, and also an NRHS front engine mount, and if you notice the lean, (or lack there of) Aaron also modified my kickstand to eliminate the severe lean angle. (I still call my S2's tripods) : )

Turnagain,
here's a pic of my trio when I lived back in Phoenix. (before the kickstand mod) My other, (1st) S2 is in storage.

It may have been Steve. At the time I was riding my '84 XR-1000 in Anchorage. (1 of 3 in the state) I don't remember seeing that display but summers are sort so i was probly out camping/fishing.

Count on coming by Art! Barber's museum is a must see. Nice trio... I need to pull the S2, S3, and Ulysses out for a photo Op.
