Daytona is within two weeks and we need to finalize the plans. The latest word from Vegasbueller is that the inn is closed for medical reasons. Even though the BBQ is still on, all the medical equipment at Nick's & Sammy's place has taken up the room previously offered.

As far as for March the 10th, I would like to meet up with the gang on I-95 in Lumberton by 09:00am. It will take between an hour and half to two hours to get to Fayetteville from Kinston, then about 45 minutes to get to Lumberton. So we need to leave Kinston at 6am.

Questions???

1) So Brankin, have you been able to get up with Jeff, and is everything a go?
2) Where exactly are we going to meet up?
3) Jim are we meeting up with you at US-13 & I-95 or are we all going to meet up in Lumberton?
4) Where in Lumberton are we going to meet?

Funny you should ask. Just got an E-mail from Jeff.

Hey man it's not looking to good for bike week. I don't think I will be going. I have no place to stay. I will find more out Wednesday but it's not looking good.

Don't know what the implications are for us. I hope to be able to break away from the garage Wednesday in order to give Jeff a call.

So if Plan A and Plan B are out, does that mean we move to Plan KOA?

I will have the cruise director start looking for hotels in the Deltona area, though I am going to try to find that neat little two man tent I saw at Target just in case.

If we end up at a hotel, perhaps it would be good to look for something ~100 miles north of Daytona?

That would be easier to find, cheaper, and it would cut 100 miles off the 2 longer legs of the trip. It would mean we had to make 2 100 miles trips on Saturday, but we don't have to be in Daytona till 9:00 anyway (I'm a morning person).

How many of us are going BTW? Is it 5?

As to where to meet, I'll let rubberdown choose. 13&95 is only a small distance from Lumberton so it's all the same to me. But if Rubberdown wants to meet further south, I'd just assume ride to whereever that is. That way I wont be waiting alone.

Well, my inlaws are in Ocala. According to Streets and Trips, its about a 2 hr ride, but only about 85 miles or so from Daytona. My wife is checking on room for us and others. I need a head count of how many are going and need somewhere to stay. She is also checking on rooms, etc... I'll try to post what she finds out and if there is room at the in-laws I'll let ya'll know.

Wife just found a room in Ocala at a Travellodge. She listed two adults and we marked it for a military discount. She found a room for $47 a night, not including taxes. I can make a reservation and I'll be down there on the 9th, morning of the 10th and can have the room or rooms ready.

She is going to check for a place around Daytona and her parents have time share at a condo in Ormond Beach there at Daytona. She's gonna have them check on that for us. I'll let ya'll know something.

David, I believe the head count is now 5.

Mike - Rubberdown
Jim R - U4ueh
Jim N - jlnance
Brankin - 1313
Carlos (Me) - M2nc

As far as for accommodations. The Travel Lodge works for me but I will go with the flow. Just in case, Kristi just bought me a two-man tent today, and I have a sleeping bag.

Either way, I'm going to Daytona!!

Well, the Time Share is out, and their house is going to be too crowded, but I think I can still reserve the Travellodge in Ocala. How many rooms do I need to reserve if Ya'll want to do this, 2? I can get them with double full beds. Again I believe the cost will be about $47 a night. At least that's the price right now, it could change tomorrow. There is also the KOA campground over in Deland. I'm not sure how much that is.

I just checked the rooms in Ocala at the Travellodge. They only had 3 left. I reserved two just to be safe, no charge right now. The only rooms they had were smoking rooms. I can hold these rooms up until 12 noon that day with no charge, until after that. So we have time to cancel these rooms if you don't want them. Right now, two rooms, two adults per (you can throw 3 in one or both, who's checking?), for two days (10th, 11th, check out on the 12th), $188 total, no taxes in that total, still TBD.

Now as for tickets to the race, are we going to just wait till we get down there? I looked online and we can order them and they UPS them. They will be $5 more at the gate, from what I understand. The infield/grandstands are $40 in advance.

Not sure what to say about tickets. I thought I heard rumblings about all the Buellers meeting up at the speedway before the race and getting tickets at the same time to make sure we are all in the same area, but never heard anything concrete about it.

I just sent a PM to Blake, but I'm not sure how soon tomorrow night I will be able to check my E-mail and post his reply. I guess if I make it a point to call Jeff tomorrow night while I am doing my laundry, which will be in between the various steps involved with putting the front cylinder back on the S2, I could do it then...

Brankin - Buellistic mailed me the schedule. The Buellers are meeting at 9:00 am at the Buell trailer to go watch the race.

Originally the plan was to buy tickets at the door. Then I heard rumblings about getting tickets in advance. Not sure what became of it. But the race will not be sold out, we shouldn't have a problem getting tickets there.

Southern - Thanks for looking into the rooms. Now we know we wont be sleeping in the sand.

Ocala isn't the perfect location, but it is certainly doable.

I booked a room for me and Pete at the Howard Johnson Express in Deland, Fl. $$$$ DOH! I think Ocala is a little too far away from the action for me. The campground, KOA, in Deland is my other alternative.

'THE' plan from the man:

No definite plans other than meeting up at the Buell demo pavillion at 9a.m. so we can all head into the track together. I'm planning on the $45 dollar infield/grandstand dual access ticket. Advance purchase is $40. Not sure where we'll end up, but either in the grandstands or in the infield is fine by me. Heck it's a long race, we can do both. : )

So if anyone wants to save a fin, it would be best to order in advance. I'm planning to order my ticket in advance after reading Blake's response.

Off to the garage,

Okay, justed checked and almost ordered mine online. : ( I'm gonna have to wait. I'll pay the $45 at the gate instead of the $52 online. Yep, it's $40, but $12, yes $12 for shipping for a total of $52. yep, I'm being cheap. I would have had seat 761. If I had ordered a couple weeks ago I could have had a seat in the 200's. Oh well.

David,

Looks like I'll end up 'being cheap' too.

I haven't heard from Jeff and it is now too late to call him. I'm thinking some kind of accomodations will be needed. I have to finish off some work in the garage tomorrow night in order to take Friday night off for a going home party for a colleague from Germany, so I don't know how likely it is that I will be able to get a hold of Jeff before Friday.

I don't see what is so bad with Ocala, but my only reason in going is to see the XBRR in the 200 (and to take in whatever Buell festivities ensue - BuellBQ, Court's 'Remind me to tell ya' session, etc.). If I was going to be there for Bike Week longer I may need to be closer to the action... I guess as long as the Ocala accomodations are 'reserved' we can explore alternate options...

Possible intinerary?

Fri: Travel to Daytona 10-12 hrs. Go to Buell BBQ in Deltona Fri. evening. Other stuff. Sack time.

Sat: Buell meet 9:00 a.m. see what's going on and maybe get tickets. Eat/drink. Sat. evening: BBQ in Deltona & other stuff.

Sun: F-off and ride home.

If I keep the room at Ho-JO's in Deland anybody's welcome to floor space and shower. Still open to other options. BTW the room in Deland comes out to about $200/night. I feggered I might be buzzed up after the festivities and not up to a 2hr ride.

After reading Mrs. Vegasbuller's latest post I'm wondering if we should just revert to plan "A" and crash at their house. What do ya think? It sounds like there are just five of us riding down. Brankin, Carlos, JimN,Pete, and me. I guess SM and his wife are driving.

I don't know Mike, I didn't read anything in the post that suggested a change since Nick's accident. I have looked at Hotels in other parts of Florida. I found some hotels on the south side of Jacksonville FL that are about eight miles further than Ocala, but you can get to Daytona faster (according to Mapquest) because of interstate travel. They advertise 85 miles in about 85 minutes. Rates from $48 to $77 per night for three in one room. Mike I thought you were at HoJos, so we can get two rooms for five, or five in one room, I have a sleeping bag.

Jim made a good point that if we stayed north of Daytona, it would be closer to home on the return trip and it would.

My other plan is to find a good tent. The one I have has two rooms and sleeps six, but its too big to carry on a bike. Kristi bought me a two-man that I can strap to the bike, but I am still looking for a tent that can go inside one of the bags. I kind like Crusty's suggestion for a Buell Camp site at the KOA.

Just options. I really do not want to pay $200/night somewhere, but I can contribute to a $100 a night hotel at St. Augustine (60 miles north of Daytona.)

We need everyone to sound off so we can get a accurate measure on everyone wants to do.

Hey, Carlos, I can carry that tent down and meet ya'll at the campground and have it up and ready. How would that sound? I'll try to call you about it.

I'm trying to find out about room at the campground for the tent, bikes, trailer, cost, etc.. Plan would be that my wife drop me off on the 9th with the trailer and I stay there and wait for ya'll.

I have been trying and trying to get in touch with the KOA campground in Deland, to reserve a spot and I'm not having any luck getting through. The phone line is constantly busy. I was also going to check on price, and about being able to park the trailer that Carlos is loaning me there next to the tent. I will have a lock for it.

Okay, it is $26 a night for 1 to 2 people and $10 a person after that. They said they have a place to put the trailer and if it's cleared out any, and there is room, they would let us put it next to the tent.

How many people would be staying in the tent, if we went this route?

I figure for two days, 5 people, split the cost, it's about $21 each.

Another possible option for me (honestly I have to be cheap) is to ask Sammie (if Carlos and Ya'll want to do this 6 man tent) is if I can drop the tent off there on Thursday and then Friday go pick it up and hopefully get a hand from a fellow Bueller with a vehicle and carry it over to the campground and set it up. I could leave the trailer in Ocala with my wife (actually feel safer about that and I'm sure Carlos would too : ) ). I still have those rooms reserved for ya'll in Ocala, if you would rather have that, but it is about a 2 hr ride and honestly, I'm not even up for that after the BBQ on Sat night. I was actually hoping to catch Nicks on Friday too. To me, the campground sounds good, anyone else?

I'm up for the campground. The extended weather forecast looks favorable right now but that can change. David, depending on the number of us that go the camp route, I actually have two tents. If you take both tents, then five of us will be more comfortable. Three in the big six-man tent and two in the small 2-3-man tent.

So, we do not have to do the camping thing if everyone else would rather not, but it does seem to be the closest to the action and cheapest route. What do everyone else thinks?

I think camping sounds good. I'm gonna be so tired after I get there that I could probably sleep on the ground and be happy about it.

I'd be happy with a hotel too, particulary if it cut some distance off the trip home. I'm with Carlos in regards to the price range.

Sammie has 5 cats. I'm allergic to cats. I can take medicine and deal with one cat. But I'm not so sure I could ever deal with 5. So even if Nicks floor had worked out, I was considering looking for something else.

What a party last night. I don't even remember making that last post. I don't think the affects have wore off completely, because I had a real weird idea. Say if the weather turned bad while we were camping, what would stop us from renting a cheap Ryder type truck to allow us a break from the weather? As long as it would fit within our camping area, I don't think anyone would have a beef with it.

Pretty crazy, huh?

I've got the tents, and I'm about ready to go. I'm just itching waiting to hit the road. : ) I'll need a headcount of how many will be staying. I'm gonna carry both tents down and set the big one up and I'll hold on to the little one and won't set it up unless we need it. If we can all fit in one tent then I won't worry about getting space for the small tent.
