hopefully we will be in Daytona before it gets dark.

I'm hoping (the eternal optimist) we will be in Daytona by dinner time.

It will take us from the East a little more than 2-1/2 hours to get to Lumberton from Kinston, so for Brankin and I to make it by 9am, we will have to leave the house before the sun comes up.

Carlos,
R U Still planning for us to meet up in Kinston at 6:00 (O'dark:30)? If so, that means I will likely have to be up absolutely no later than 4:30. Sheesh, and some nights I don't even get to bed by then...

So Carlos, R U gonna hook me up with some back up (charged) camera batteries?

I'm not really ready, but I'm as ready as I'll ever be...

Jim N.-You can stay here and paint the rest of my bike, I'll go to Daytona for ya.
You guys and gals have fun and be safe. Give Vegas a high five for me. Meanwhile this is what I am doing this weekend:

This is the base coat, chrome. Although it does not show in the picture, the rattle can stuff that Dupont makes really looks great. So much that I thought about leaving like this, but I am after another look:

This Kandy-blue is transparent, so the reflective chrome should look pretty sharp in the sun light.
Be safe C-3'rs, bring me back a Daytona souvenier(sp)
JIM

Jim- I like the blue! Keep us up to date with the pictures.

Larry- I've got pictures of that same Firebolt. Did you play the robot game underneath it?

Daytona crowd- I'm jealous. I definitely can't make it down. Somebody bring me a t-shirt! ;) I'm trying to get someone here to DVR/Tivo the race and save it to DVD for me.

So I'm sitting there eating my quarter pounder and I can't help but notice the guys across from me keep looking out the window at my bike. Finally they decided to ask me about it.

Guy 1: "Is that your bike."

Me: "yep"

Guy 1: "What kind is it?"

Me: "It's a Buell."

Guy 1: "It looks a Ninja."

Me: "oh, well it's a Buell"

Guy 2: "What kind is it?"

Me: "A Buell."

blank stare . . . looks back out at bike, then at me . . .

Guy 2: "A what?"

Me: "A Buell"

Guy 1: "It looks just like one of them ninja bikes"

Guy 2: "What make is it?"

Me: "It's a Buell. The make is Buell"

Guy 2: "No, I mean, what company makes it?"

Me: "Buell. It's made by a company called Buell."

another blank stare, looks back out at bike, appears to think for a minute, looks back at me . . .

Guy 2: "Well I ain't never heard of one of those"

Me: blank stare

Guy 3 chimed in at this point, he seemed pretty sharp, started asking about the brand. I gave him the basic Buell rundown- been around ~20 years, hand made till 1995, Harley bought into them in the '90s, made in Wisconsin, sold through Harley dealers, etc.

That seemed to hold them over, so I went back to finishing my lunch. Just before I left, one of them turns to me and says, "by the way, you have a headlight out."

I love small towns.

The always infamous "Never heard of those"...I hear that alot. The Guys at Epcot did not even know what kind of bike or even why it was hanging there. Been told once or twice about the burned out light, but as I usually run my brights during the daytime I get less of that.

And of course I played the game...what am I crazy?...Of course my daughter on the rollercoasters was the best. She is definitely a future Buell'er. That and her shaking her try table thinking that she was making the whole plane shake and not the heavy turbulence we were having. Her and I were the only 2 people on the plane smiling and she was actually yelling "WEEEEEEEEEE" at the top of her lungs. Quite a few of the other passengers were turning very green at the gills. Brankin, You have two options. Get to bed early or don't go to be at all. If you can get me a remote control joy buzzer, I can zap you if you start to stray off course.

All joking aside, we have to make up some ground to catch up with everybody else. To do that we have to leave Kinston by Day break. I think we did about the same thing last year didn't we? Well, maybe we are going a little earlier, but Lumberton is about a quarter of the way to Daytona, time wise.

U4ueh - Man that looks cool! Can't wait to see it at TWO!

Larry - Come On! Come On! If you can it would be great. I have been pestering everybody at work that rides too though, so don't pay me no mind.

I am ready to go!!!!

Spike, the best one so far with the Uly was during a License check. The State Trooper looks at me when I pulled up and he said, "Huh, you ride one of those expensive bike!" Then barely looked at my license and waved me through. It is fun to ride a unique bike.

Ride time to Daytona: Last summer I rode a BMW from Daytona to Southern Pines. I was riding alone (which is always faster than riding with a group), I took the most direct route, I traveled rapidly, and stopped little. If I am recalling correctly it took me 10 hrs. Just something to keep in mind.

The cops let you by 'cause they thought you were cute..................

Jury Duty

U4euh,
That looks sweet! Can't wait to see it. What color is the other side gonna be?

Spike,
Speaking of moving pictures, do you (or any other C-3'ers out there) know someone that can dub some VHS tapes? I have a bunch of Buell footage from over the years on VHS that I'd like to get on as few tapes as possible. My end goal is to put them on to disc (either DVD or some digital file type playable on a 'puter), but I think my first step should be filtering through what is on all the tapes and only getting the Buell stuff on as few tapes as possible. BTW, it should go without saying but, whoever assists with this mission can burn themselves a copy of the whole she bang. To whet the appetite, I have the Taco Bell RS commercial raw footage, the Buell X1 burnout 'Have a Nice Day' ad, the 1000th Buell news article from a Milwaukee TV station (sorry it is an S2), the Slider's TV episode featuring a few Buells (2 S2-T's and an S1), the Motorweek test of the S1W (with a nice wheelie) plus a few tapes that Buell gave out to the employees, just to name a few... Any takers? It doesn't need to be right away, just kinda like to lay the groundwork for the activity.

I think Carlos is posing as a woman again... Not just as any woman, but as his wife... I should show you all the pics from Daytona last year... But it might frighten those of you who are going this year... Good thing I can't find them...

Seriously though, I've been going to bed and getting up a little bit earlier than normal this whole week in preparation for Friday. But 4:30 is still awful damn early for a party animal to wake up, so don't hold it against me if I ain't exactly 'chipper' when we meet up Friday morning.

Larry- The guys at Epcot didn't know why the bike was there when I went there either. Ask Sarah about me playing the robot game at Epcot. They had two "contests" during the game, one was for the best looking robot, the other was for the fastest robot through the race. I won both. I was pretty happy with my victory till Sarah pointed out that I had just crushed a bunch of 9-year-olds.

About Daytona- my record from Orlando to Raleigh is ~8 1/2 hours, but that was in a car and only included one stop to get gas and use the restroom. It also involved non-legal speeds. I got away with it that time, but I don't recommend it, along with a lot of other things I did when I was 17. 10 hours to Daytona is a decent time in a car. On a bike with the extra fuel stops 10 hours would be a pretty quick time. I think we took closer to 12 hours last year, but that included some lengthy stops to make repairs. I know we rolled into Daytona around 9:30 that night, not sure what time we got started. With the number of guys riding down this year figure that 10 hours is the best-case time and start adding to that for every stop.

1313- I know little about converting VHS to DVD, but I do know it takes time and can eat up a tremendous amout of hard drive space depending on the resolution. Any idea how many hours of video you have?

You are free to come down and crash at my place tonight, I've got a guest room now. Google says its 2:11 to lumberton, so we wouldn't need to leave till 6:30.

They actually do make those.

Things are comming together. I spent a little time last night packing.
