Chad, I can't break news that isn't mine to break, but I believe that you will be doing more than seeing 'one of our crew' in a matter of weeks. As usual, it's good to hear from you. It's nice to hear that your dealer is "in tune" as the dealership support is truly what is needed to grow the Buell brand to it's full potential. Make sure that you send me pics of the S1W Enforcer the dealer is restoring once it is complete. I've been in communication with a guy who has a S3-T Defender that, amazingly, still has all the 'bells and whistles' (i.e. lights and sirens). You'll definitely see me at Homecoming, and I know of at least one other C-3'er that is itching to go. Now it's off to the garage for me. Even in these 41° temps. WE GOING!   1313 Posted on Sunday, February 26, 2006 - 11:54 pm:        Well I usually set ambitious goals and today was no exception. The disassembly was a piece of cake. I had forgotten how long it takes to clean up gasket surfaces. I took some pics as I went to show some of those who may not be familiar with what the inner workings of a Buell look like. When I stepped out to my garage this morning, er... that would be afternoon. D'oh - late start had something to do with limited progress today, but having proper rest is essential. After getting up early yesterday due to other commitments I had to catch up on rest this morning. Anyways, back to the garage. When I got out to the S2 I noticed something was missing: Oh yeah, that's right, I took the missing items off yesterday in preparation for today's tasks. Here's the reason why all this is being done: In the picture above it may look like the pushrod base is leaking, but as the picture below shows the rear cylinder base gasket is not functioning as intended. Closer view showing those great digits: Sharp eyes might have picked out the XB rocker box tops in the first picture. After the rear XB rocker box top (or rocker box top and center section for OE Sporty style setup) is removed you will be greeted by your rocker arms. After removing the rocker box base you get a better view at the cylinder head, and the pushrods and valves contained therein. After removing the cylinder head you get to see your piston. After a little work with a gasket scraper and then following up with a razor blade for the tight areas, you can again read the part number and the .010 over notation. (Note: The picture makes it look worse than it actually is. Actually it looks a hell of a lot better than a lot of other rear pistons on T'Storm engines. And for the majority of it's life as a Thunderstorm engine - that's 70,000 miles so far - it's been run with the 'bad' 6R12 plugs...) Once followed up with a little scotchbrite the piston looks much cleaner. Here it can be seen better after the rear cylinder has been removed. The cylinder studs have lengths of oil line over them to keep the piston from getting damaged. After spending about 4 times longer than it took to disassemble it this far on cleaning the gasket surfaces I was able to get the new base gasket, cylinder, head gasket, cylinder head back on and new head bolts torqued per Cometic's recommendation before I got too hungry, and it got too cold for me to be out in the garage working. So to end today's progress this is what I have forward to coming back to tomorrow after work. On the (more realistic) list tomorrow after work is getting the everything else back on the rear, including installation of the NRHS pushrod bases. If progress allows, the front will begin being disassembled (I sure hope my jack doesn't leakdown...). 1313   Jlnance Posted on Monday, February 27, 2006 - 06:14 am:        The disassembly was a piece of cake. Uh yea, it usually goes that way for me too. That reassembly can be a bitch though. Let me say that I am impressed. Not so much that you can take it apart. I could probably do that. But that you will put it back together and it will run. Thats the piece I'm a little shakey with. I used to fancy myself as mechanically inclined. I would take my bicycle apart and regrease the bearings every week. Then I got the B2000 (Mazada pickup.) I wanted to see the valves one morning so I unbolted the valve cover to look. When I put the cover back on I sheared off one of the bolt heads. So I started drilling out the bolt. Which is when I broke the drill bit off inside the bolt. Yeah, that is when you know you should stay away from the tools. I have to admit, I've done that one before. One time while replacing the base gaskets on my M2 I was just threading the head bolts back on by hand when I looked down and saw the unopened Cometic package still sitting on the floor. Then there's the time my Firebolt was struggling to idle after I had just finished doing the 10k mile service. The bike was hard to start, would barely idle, and was hesitant to respond to throttle. I thought for a minute, then pulled the airbox back off to see that I had forgotten to remove the rag that I had stuffed in the throttle body. Me and another fella were changing 277v ballasts for fluorescent light fixtures in a warehouse. We were taking turns in the boom and the other fella was up in the boom for this one. The row of lights were cut off at the breaker box and Fred started to cutting the wires, took down the old ballast, installed the new ballast and then wired it up. The last task was to install the fluorescent tubes. He puts the first one in and the light comes on. He yells "Hey!!" We later find out that this light was wired on a separate circuit for night lights. We purchased an electrical current pen light after that one. Pretty easy, hold the pen light looking device close to the wire and it would pick up the magnetic force around the electric current and light up if the power was on. We never messed with anything electrical after that with out it. Ya' see, Pauletta has accepted a job in Indiana and we're moving! Pauletta has to be in Indiana the third week of March, so she's gone soon. I'm staying behind to wrap up all the loose ends and hopefully sell the house before I go. This is a real good opportunity for her, though at the present, it is just a lateral move for her. I just want to say thanks for what everyone has put into C-3 from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry that I have to relinquish the post of director. I'm bummed about that. On the other hand, I'm excited about the opportunities in Indiana. We'll be just east of Indianapolis in Shelby Co. It also puts us within 100 miles of our families in Ohio which as we age, has become more important to us. The cool thing is that we'll still be around to visit now and again, and Badweb will keep us connected electronically. Carlos and I have already figured out that Deal's Gap is just about half way between here and there so getting together to ride means having to go there, oh darn! For now though, Daytona is coming up fast, the meeting is on the 18th, then March Badness is soon to be here Dave (IndyXB9 ??????????)   Southern Marine Posted on Wednesday, March 01, 2006 - 07:55 pm:        Dave, Congrat's to you and your wife and, well, bummer too. I wish ya'll the best. Well, I made a few more mods to my bike. I put some front & rear axle sliders on. I went to Home Depot and bought a 5/16" threaded rod, some locknuts and washers. I searched and searched for skateboard wheels and the only ones I could find were about $30. I went to Target and found a skateboard with some clear gray wheels for about $20 and bought it. They are special wheels. Figured out what they are yet?...... Yep, I have special OCC sliders. Orange County Choppers. The skateboard was OCC and I liked the color. I could have turned them around and still can, but I kinda like it. I get a good laugh out of it. Yes, I know my bike needs to be washed. As for mechanical mayhem, I may have a slight advantage as a fellow by the name of Gary Stippich guided me through my first project with the S2 (intake seals I think it was), and I haven't been the same since. 1313   Sportymark Posted on Thursday, March 02, 2006 - 11:53 am:        Yeah that Bike is by Hot Dock in Japan 4 Valve heads! and fuel injected, they have a bunch of way too cool stuff As for working on the bike seemed pretty natural to me.. last winter was sitting on a stand with the front end off, and the cam chest open. but for some reason taking the top end off intimidates me...
