Sounds to me like it's time to contact the insurance company for a heart to heart with the management there and then if they don't resolve the situation it may be time to get yourself an advocate doctor or attorney experienced in this kind of scenario. Either the insurance company or the doctor in charge of Nick's case sure seems to have dropped the ball. Most doctors are wonderful; some are egotistical jerks. | ||

Sammi, You and Nick are in my daily prayers. It's certainly not my place to offer advice. As has already been mentioned, the meanest pitbull atty in your area is probably your best bet for an advocate for ALL your concerns. Around the boatyards here, when a really nasty bottom needed stripped, we'd say "Hire a crackhead...they're motivated." Same thing with pitbull atty. Altruism is not what governs health care or insurance providers. Profit is. Scare 'em straight and kick a**. Peace to you and Nick. | ||

Alrighty, here's where we are at this point... if everything goes according to the plan, Nick will be coming home tomorrow. We figure I can help him work through this until he is ready for rehab. It makes more sense than doing this way, driving about an hour each way to see him and still trying to keep the house running smooth. Or moving into the facility to take care of him. Ugh! I can't wait to actually sleep a whole night in my own bed. Looks like it won't be tonight either!  Soooo...as I said.."IF" everything goes well, Nick will be home tomorrow evening. And of course that means that he will be home when you all come out! He's all "stoked" about it! I suppose keeping it hush hush that you are going to help me finish the things he started isn't going to happen. ~LOL~ Thank you so much, you guys. You all have been true friends to me during all of this and I hope we continue to be friends. Your eagerness to help has been a blessing to us both. I have to tell you, between the visits and phone calls, Nick has been more positive than he would have without you all. For that, I feel I need to let you know that you've all touched my heart in a place that's been closed up for a very long time. Thank you, you all made me believe that people can be good and compassionate. Oh man, I could get all poem like and go on with the gushy stuff, but I won't... cuz I like ya! hehe! I feel much better tonight, although I am totally wiped. I will move Nick into the family room so he'll have the TV to watch when he wants. I've already drug the furniture around, back and forth between rooms. I'm sure it would have been comical to watch me do that and clean earlier. I kept getting side tracked and would start doing something else..then I'd remember that I forgot what I was doing!  I am so excited at the thought of Nick coming home that I feel wired, so I am going to get back to cleaning and arranging. I'll update you as soon as I know something. Nick won't be home until late in the afternoon because I have to have all the medical equipment her before he can come home. I may even type for him here. This is Nick's personal update... Nick is feeding himself, he can't cut meat yet, but soon. Last night and today he turned his self over in the bed!! That is so great, but I've had to warn him not to over do it. He has certain limits, so I am going to put my boots on when he gets home and crack that whip!!  ok, once again, I am off to ...well you know... Thank you, again, for everything. I am really looking forward to meeting those of you that I can and hope to meet you guys that won't be coming sometime in the future. g'nite Sammie | ||

If all it takes is the sound of a cracking whip to get you guys going, have I got the whips!!  he-he! Now, Jim, don't you think that could help him to recover faster?! I wouldn't hit him too hard and I promise not to walk all over him...yet.  Well, Nick is home, settled in his new hospital bed, fed and now having a nap. This is the best way, him right here where I can take care of him and know that he is safe and loved. He is doing some pretty great things on his own now and asked me not to help him with several things tonight already. I'm sure you all will be a terrific part of his recovery when you get here. Again, I have to thank you, every one of you. I don't know what I'd have done without your support and friendship. I don't even want to think about it, it's kinda scary. I know your phone calls, visits, postings and emails have meant so much to Nick. It kept him from slipping into that depression that was he was so close to falling into. I'm sure he'd like to thank you all himself and looks forward to being able to do that. Somewhere in the future I will see how my business goes and try to buy him a lap top computer. Until then, he can dictate letters and I'll type them out for him. Boy, I hope he doesn't get too used to this! Things are supposed to be the other way around. ~laughs~ He is so excited that he'll be home and will get to meet you all! So basically, the BBB-Q is back on! Things won't be quite how we had planned it, but it'll still rock just the same! I know there are a couple of you coming in the 3rd. I guess you'll all start trickling in from there. That's great, first ones here get to help me move things around in the garage to make room for motorcycles. ~LOL~ Oh what fun! We are really looking forward to your arrival. Nick will be good for phone calls around noon tomorrow. A nurse is coming out to evaluate him around 10am to see how many days and hours a week they will need to come out and monitor him. I talked to her on the phone for a little while and I actually think I like her. I know...amazing! he-he! I''m going to go get stuff ready to give Nick a nice, Vanilla and Brown Sugar body wash, bath. Good night, Sammie | ||

All, I have a new event that is sure to be a good time and welcome break from all the high speed competition. AMI will be hosting their 16th annual Brute Horsepower Shootout at their Daytona Beach facility on Friday, March 10th. Sammie, I am glad you and Nick are doing well, although I am sure you will be glad of some help, as I am sure it is a ton of work taking care of him. I think that you have been doing a wonderful job and Nick is lucky to have you. Take heart it will get easier for you and harder for Nick as he rehabilitates. You will have a hard time not doing everything for him when he hits that point. It seems to me that you both should be commended for everything you have been through, and making it this far without choking a doctor or nurse is commendable too. I have worked with a few I wanted to. So keep the faith and the many supporters you guys have will be there for you. As for the story, I have a pretty nasty sinus infection and am not feeling on the better side of bad, and I still thought I was going to pass out from laughter. Sounds like something I would do. In fact one night my wife went to bed early, and I reversed the doors on the refrigerator. She woke me up at 5 am telling me there was something wrong with it. I told her she was just sleepy and to go back to sleep. She pestered me for 20 minutes, all the while me knowing exactly what was up. I finally walked in and walked right to the door like it was always there and told her "see nothings wrong". After my son, got up she covered his eyes and made him try to open the fridge, I told her she just positioned him on that side so of course he was going to try that side. I finally told her what I did about 10 am. She about killed me. She told me later that she had decided she had gotten on the crazy train there for a while and thought she was going all the way to crazy town. It was so hilarious. Good afternoon, It sure is a good one here! Nick is doing fantastic and getting stronger every hour, it seems. He's pulling his upper body forward by holding the side rails on the bed. We are going to do some exercises after his bath, which is coming up shortly. He wants you all to know that he will be writing you all later today. Of course I'll take the notes and do the typing but the post will be from him. We both can't wait for you all to get here! Come on down, Blake. I'm sure Nick would love to tell you what to do. ~L~ Court, please give me a call. Ohhh just so you guys know.. though I'm sure this will be disappointing, the blimp story is not Nick's. He did not do that to me. ~L~ It was a friend of his. I guess Nick got excited about your reaction and forgot to put the disclaimer in. hehe! I love that story!! I have one that fits in that "funny" category, if you all want me to post it. We both slept very well last night. I only had to get up once, so I'm actually starting to feel a bit rested. Though I still feel pretty scatter brained.  Nick's bike was brought home today. I checked it over and can't find any "big" damage at all. Looks like it may have slid on it's right side, but it's only scraped except for the broken mirror, hand brake and all tail lights. Even those weren't shattered. Strange. Ok, I'll type Nick's post later. Calls will be fine after 4pm my time. Giving him a bath takes a while. Thank you again for all of your caring and support! Just can't hardly wait to meet you all! My closest friend lives in Australia, and had an accident where he was hospitalized for weeks, had several broken bones and required a few surgeries. He was really hurt bad,and was very close to death. The funny thing was that the passenger he was carrying got no worse than a little road rash, and his bike only had a broken headlight, I guess most of the energy of the impact went through him. I'm glad Nick's bike isn't too badly damaged, but it would be a whole lot better if the bike was really screwed and Nick was only slightly hurt. Nick, hurry up and heal; you've got a S***load of Buellers coming by in just a few days more. | ||

I can't take the weight of the laptop yet, so my wonderful wife is typing from my chickenscratch. First off.... my deepest, heartfelt thanks to all of you! "Thank you" doesn't even start to touch it though. I can't find the words to express how much all the calls, visits, emails, prayers and well wishes mean to me. You all have been a large part of the "Best Medicine". By now I am sure you all know about the wreck, my injuries, and the long road I have ahead of me. It is nice to know I won't be alone. My wife has been a blessing beyond words. She broke me out of the nursing home!  About the wreck....guys(and girls) please follow closely to what I am saying. Valentine's Day, like any other Tuesday, I was scheduled in at noon that day. Sammie and I got up early and had our coffee together. We start every day with coffee and conversation. I worked around the house getting things ready for the carpet people, touching up paint and continuing things to get ready for bike week. Time came to head for work, so like any other day, I backed the Buell out of the garage. Then I went back inside to give Sammie a hug and kiss and exchanged an "I love you", just as we do every time one of us leaves the house. I went outside, fired up the Buell so it could warm up while I put on all my gear. Yep, I wore a helmet, armor jacket,and gloves every time I got on the bike. I NEVER went anywhere without full gear. I pulled out of the drive just like I did every other work day. Down my street, off to the interstate and away we go. It was a beautiful sunny day. Just perfect for riding! As usual the ride around Lake Monroe was perfect. The ride through Sanford was smooth as could be. As usual, I passed a doze or so bikers, waving "Howdy" to all of them. Now is where some things get blurry.... I was one block from work, just about to take the very last left hand turn when I see a car sitting at the intersection on my left. I am traveling about 30 mph and slowing. The young lady turns and looks me in the eye, cell phone in hand, and within 20 feet of me approaching her, she pulls out. I don't remember much from there. I was told it looks like I hit the right rear door of her car head first as I launched over my handlebars. I was told my body impacted the top of her car before landing on the street. I'll try to write more later, but the big thing that I want to point out is that I awakened with only a priest holding my hand and praying for me! He was sure I was dead. In the 5 seconds it took her to pull out in front of me I could be dead. This could have been a eulogy instead of a thank you. PLEASE wear your gear and please live your life like the next second is your last. Make sure your loved ones know you love them every minute! Thanks again everyone! Vegas | ||

I loaded 7 of the 8 bikes in our trailer today, and can't wait to begin our journey to Daytona.
