This is my 2nd season with my Gerbings jacket and I don't know how I ever lived without it! It extends my season to anything dry and above 20deg. The thermostat is really nice, otherwise in 40deg+ weather you are uncomfortably HOT! It is more than just resistors in-line to limit the current and does reduce the electrical load if turned down. With my heated grips I can be comfortable at that temp with the Buell winter gloves. Later Neil S. | ||

OK East Troy...Here it is! Fischer Motor Company announced the development of their American Superbike. From engineering, to the chassis, to design, to power, Fischer enlisted the top industry veterans to create the MR1000, scheduled to go into production in late 2004. The prototypes use the Rotax V-997 cc engine, but the chassis was planned for use with multiple V-twins, in various displacements... A Real American Sportbike...Real as in lots of ponies | ||

Richie...Well, at least you have to admit, if it comes to market, it will outrun anything Buell currently has...And as to why they call it an "American" is because the company is an American one and, presumably, it will be assembled here...I mean, you would have to break down the components of the Buells and Fischer by what, cost?, weight? and see where they are sourced from to try and determine which is "more" American...But who the hell cares?...It's that global thing again...These companies just go where they can get the best price, quality and supply...You would get into a pissin' match over one engine from the US (BU) and the other from Switzerland (FI) and then the frames from Italy (or is it Spain?)(BU) and US (FI)...See what I mean?... I agree, Bob..its alll about that mighty dollar. Cost of things have shattered many hopes and dreams of many innovative and very creative minds. And BMC is keeping itself alive by finding the best price, quality and supply, just like the rest of the manufacturers out there. As far as speed goes...consider this: How fast does one "realistically" have to go? Don't get me wrong..I'm a speed junky (chunkie? heehee) just like most everyone here. But since I've been running around with this crowd, I've noticed about 75% of you guys are over 40. And I betcha 95% of ya's don't really have much desire to blast down the superslab at 175 mph(or faster), even though it would be hella fun. Another thing to keep in mind as well, and we were kind of talking about this today at the shop..I think one of the things thats attractive about a Buell, is that they are so easy and cheap to maintain. Kinda like your Beemer, Bob. How often do ya gotta have the valves adjusted on those things? Same thing with Ducs. And the imports...hell you gotta have those adjusted at around 10K(on a "well broken in" machine), and there's lotsa lotsa lil shims to be inspecting. Just from hearing Josh at the shop talk about, it ain't cheap, either...I bet alot of those guys either take it to the shop, or just sell the damn thing and let some other young punk worry about it. But hell I dunno. You trade off speed for simplicity and cost I guess. I can live with that I doubt I could ride something more performance oriented to its potential anyways, so I'll just keep chugging along on my "tractor" hehe Just my 2 cents, fellas  | ||

Frank...I've said many times that our Buell's are "adult" sport bikes in that they are very forgiving and will not get you into trouble in a big hurry...For John and I it's really about the twin thing...The torque, engine braking, etc...What our "ideal" is would be a Buell sport tourer with a RC51 or Rotax engine like engine...It's those twin jugs (pun intended) we like... Bob, i guess as im getting older and aaa....supposidly wiser,i guess im not really concerned about break neck speeds.If I was concerned about that,I would have bought something besides a Buell.I wanted an AMERICAN Motorcycle,that ran well and handled well also.So,a bike that runs circles around mine,is not big deal.I did however want a bike I could ride,wherever and whenever,so far I havent been displeased.As far as sport touring goes,I rode to Millwalkee,Sturgis,and everything went great.But I didnt buy my bike for sport touring per say.I didnt buy my bike with the intentions or hopping on and riding 1500 miles in 2 days,but I wouldnt hesitate to get on it and go either.I guess if a person want a bike he can ride that many miles in 2 days,comfortably,and only stop 3 or 4 times for gas,it wont be on my beloved Buell!I just wish Buell would make a bike,with a water cooled motor,with full fareing,hard bags,that would haul 2 people,and that was comfy enough to go all the way!THATS THE AMERICAN BIKE IM IN LINE FOR! | ||

Open House at RPM Motorwerks, 1720 S Belt W, Belleville, IL Saturday 14 Dec 10-4pm +/-. Steve carries Triumph, ATK and is even listed as a Royal Enfield dealer. One of the many cool things about Steve is he's the mechanic, salesman, owner, etc. Tonight he stopped wrenching to fill out sales paperwork. DAve ... I plan on riding a Buell there hehehe |
