Spent a couple of REALLY needed hours on the Lightning today. Some thoughts:

Life's too short to ride a boring bike (BTW: Have an 05 883 Custom for sale, Buelletta feels the same way)

Kids always smile when you pull up next to them at a light. So give 'em a little show.

Eastern NC does have some twisties(sort of).

The Drummer is still the best sounding muffler I've heard on an XB (but I'm partial)

7500 RPM does feel good.

How do people ride with ape hangers?

Motorcycles (and Buell)have blessed me with more and better friends than I probably deserve.

If I can sell the stupid Sportster, then there'll be room for another Buell!

I wish my pocket bike still ran, just so I could kill it one more time.

So it eats tires, it's worth it!

I still enjoy the look of puzzlement I get every time I ride by the bar in Scuffleton.

Winter doesn't allow enough time to ride.

Man I'm looking forward to MB-3!

Ok... i did it - just jumped off the fence and made reservations for a room for the daytona 200. we (My Phuong & Andy) will drive pickup down, leaving thursday 3/9 sometime, returning early sunday 3/12. if we can carry anything for anyone, let us know. I'll post my cell number later on for a "just in case" someone needs a pickup on the way

Oh - what tickets to buy? grandstand, or grandstand/infield? whats the possibility of Buell people being together? never been to the race, so don't know what to expect

--Ulywife - any room at the inn for the badness? we would like to make it also. if room available for us 2, we will probably load up the 9r and truck it down. please advise.

--Zxer04 - took some pics of the bags on the 9r today, if you would like to see how they look/fit. let me know & i'll shrink 'em and email 'em to you.

now, if i can only get a vacation changed for homecoming.....
this is shaping up to be a heck of a year - buell speaking

Been kinda busy lately, too busy in fact to keep up with the increased traffic in the C-3 section alone. Just thought I'd share some details of my adventures after leaving work tonight.

Adventure #1:
This story begins when I attempted to get my bikes inspected this January. The S2 wouldn't pass due to the rear tire having been worn to the wearbars. A good resource for me told me that 'Checking inspection on a bike is rarely done, and you're really only at risk if you get pulled over.' or something to that affect. Now we zoom forward to today. I had to mail some packages after work so I came home loaded up the packages on my bike and start off to the post office. Even though the post office is open until 6:00 p.m. during the week I was still behind the schedule I set for myself (I guess I'm an optimist somewhere, at least) so I decided to take the side street method of getting to the post office. I came to what I would assume would be the infamous North Carolina roadblock (okay I saw one when I was in Georgia, too...). With a State Trooper in the center of the road and two city boys at the driveway near where the Troopers car was parked I didn't know what to expect (after all it was the first roadblock I'd ever had to go through). The first place the Trooper looks is at my left fork to check out the inspection sticker. Thankfully I was on the V-Rod and everything was legit. (I was kinda leading ya there on that one, wasn't I?) Since I have a new rear tire coming to replace the one that is on the Buell that is ONLY at the wearbars, to make myself feel better about changing a tire with enough miles to make it to Daytona and back I had considered riding the S2 with the base gasket leak just to use up the tire some more. After my experience tonight I think I might think a little harder about doing that...

Adventure #2:
After doing some grocery shopping with the V-Rod tonight I head home. I get about 50 feet from my driveway and I hear that something had hit the truck in the lanes of oncoming traffic. As I got closer to my driveway I saw a 4-legged animal spinning in the street after having run into the pick up. For a couple of seconds the animal was just laying in the middle of the street motionless. As I realized I was still on the street on my bike I pulled into the safety of my driveway and looked back at the animal in the street. It twitched a couple of times and then it's hind end lifted up and his hind legs propelled him DIRECTLY to the curb (I mean a direct, straight, bee-line to the edge of the road) all the while pushing his head and front legs on the surface of the street. It was like he hit a magical reset button when his nose hit the curb and he sprung up on all fours and shook his body like he was trying to get water off of himself. As soon as he shook himself off he returned to normal and took off through my neighbors yard like a bullet train. I'm still not exaclty sure what it was, whether it was a dog or a fox, but it sure was an amazing thing to see! Though it was emotional when I first thought that it's a dog. Now that I don't know exactly what it is I just look at the unique event as an interesting experience and a part of my day's events.

I haven't had time to fully catch up on all the posts, but some 'highlights' that I hit were:

Yes, they are NRHS pushrod bases. It's not my motor in the picture, and I don't have the pushrod bases on my S2's motor...YET! Along with the Cometic base gaskets and the pre-requisite top end gasket set I got coming from NRHS I got a screamin' deal on the pushrod bases. I've always lusted after them and very soon I will have them keeping one less leak from happening. It just makes good old common sense to put them in when I have to take it down that far to replace the cylinder base gaskets. Shhhh! Please don't tell anyone there is a method to my madness!!!

As for the next C-3 BRAG Meeting, does anyone (dealer liason, perhaps?) know if they will have the free folding Buell hats for us at the dealer (when we present them with the completed slip off www.buell.com - of course)? Checking out the 'participating dealers' in NC I only saw the Shelton's locations in Durham and Smithfield listed.

I gather I am going to be sleeping in a cabin somewhere. Where, when and how much? You know I snore real loud after I've been drinking, don't ya?

Speaking of beer, Icehouse is what I'm enjoying right now, and as Ulywife (cool screen-name, but I think Buelletta takes the cake!) most likely knows it is what my prefered blend is.

I. myself, can't wait for Daytona. But fortunately there is time to do what I need to before then!

I will piece the rest of the pieces of the puzzle together over the weekend,
1313

Southern -- don't worry about looking for your hitch. If it's a Class III we can just give you ours with the trailer and tiedowns.

Hotrats -- sorry to say, but currently the cabin is full. However, the owner does have another cabin that is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath. It's called Deer Watch, Cabin on the Toccoa River. You can find it on Suches.com, look under vacation cabin rentals, Deer Watch. The owner is Jean Hale, 706-216-8362. If you know others who are interested in going, maybe you could share the cabin and expenses with them. The other option I can offer is that if for some reason someone has to cancel, you will be the first I contact to see if you still need space. I was afraid when I first committed to this cabin that it was too large and we'd only have 6 people or so. I wish I could offer something better, but staying within the confines of the contract, I have to say, "the inn is full". If you find other accommodations let us know so we can exchange cell numbers, etc. and meet at "C3 Central" (our name for the cabin!!) or at T.W.O. Looks like NC is going to have a pretty good showing at March Badness!!

1313 - I forgot to mention in my last post, Carlos got one of those hats from John last week, so you may have luck there. I'll e-mail him and let him know that there is interest in those hats for the C3 meeting. Glad to hear you've got a tire coming. I ordered one for the Uly from Ron Ayers, $121 total and another $25 to mount it. Certainly cheaper than the last tire I bought for the M2. Do you still have the part for the M2 you talked about? Let us know how much you want for it.

As for the name, I just don't think that Buell and Kristi flow together very well, and they wouldn't have let me post my "title".......so Ulywife will just have to do for now.

Maybe we'll see you this weekend. We have basketball tomorrow, a double header starting at 11:20, so give us a call late afternoon if you want to.

Ulywife -- thanks... that's what happens when i 'sit on the fence' too long before deciding. i will call J Hale this morning. maybe someone else will be interested in sharing the cabin. will post the results of the call later.

1313 -- ICEHOUSE??? good call! that's what i do... make icehouse for people like you - and me, as it is my preferred beverage. i'll load you up at mb3.

on another note, carried My Phuong, fiancee, for her first bike ride in the USA yesterday. she held on for dear life, had me scooted forward as far as i could go on the seat - ehehehe. She was full of smiles when she got off though. While following a logging truck, got my bell rung pretty good - i guess from a rock thrown from the logging truck - glad i switched from a skid lid to a full face.

Hotrats -- Jean is very nice and the cabins look great. You really only have to take your personal belongings and food. I planned to take laundry stuff, etc., it's already there. She feels that people shouldn't have to work that hard when coming to her cabins. I hope you find someone else to share the cabin with. More Buellers, more fun. I'll e-mail our cabin phone number and mine and Carlos' cell numbers so we can catch up in Suches.

Hey Jim R. Just got back from Durham. Luke looks so much better. Since I'll be camping at T.W.O., the xb will ride in the back of the S10. I'll more than likely take 85 south most of the way, but that might change. Hope to head out around 4 am. and might even stay until Mon. morning. Hopefully, we will have decent weather. No way I'm going to miss this one. What route are you and Mike gonna take? Just curious..Take care Jim

ok... got a cabin for mb3 - anyone need a bed?
Ulywife, called Jean Sat. morn, but the deerwatch cabin was booked. We got the deerview cabin(different owners), I think somewhere close - near as I could tell from the direction/map on the web. The cabin has another bedroom, for extra cost if anyone interested.
Info from cabin owners say cell phones don't work in the area, guess reception is spotty.
Twig - we'll be headed down friday too, don't know when yet, but later than 4 am(off work @7am), with the bike in the back of the s10.

Several of the eastern guys plan to leave Friday AM and maybe hit the Dragon before getting to Suches. We'll see what timing and weather say. Looking forward to meeting you and hopefully you'll find someone else to share the cabin with.

Twig-great to hear about Luke. That is a relief for you I know. Mike W. will most likely already be there, I believe he has a class in Asheville for work. Don't know what route I am gonna take, depends on alot of factors. Like you, I like to ride early, less traffic, get breakfast, enjoy the sunrise,.... so I'll see. As it gets closer I will know.
Anyone know the planned route that is most popular yet. See that running the Dragon might be on the schedule. Time leaving, etc,etc

The plan is to head straight across the state to the Dragon. I hope to leave early enough to make it there by 2pm. There we will off load the bikes and at least Kristi and Letta will go on with the trucks and trailers to the cabin. That gives us just enough time to make one run up and back on the Dragon and then make the 60-70 mile journey to Cabin before dark. By the way, the roads from the Dragon to Suches are excellent.

Jim - The next time I have the bike at work, I'll measure it with calipers it you need it that accurate. Since they are calling for possible snow tonight/tomorrow am, it won't be tomorrow. I don't know how well the D616 will do in the snow, but they suck on ICE. I can give you an estimate. I'm sure it's standard tubing of some size.

For those of us going to Daytona, they have started a spreadsheet to track down who is coming to the BBQ and who is staying the night at VegasBuellers. Please go to the 'Daytona 2006 Happenings' thread here in Storm Fronts for updates. I believe you need to PM Jersey with the information. I know the Mike (Rubberdown) and I have already.

Don't forget this Saturday at Shelton's Goldsboro is our sorta-monthly BRAG meeting.

We will have the latest

So come one, come all!

Peace out,

Sorry guys, doesn't look like I can make the meeting. I've been trying for the past two weekends to get this piano moved into my house and it looks like the planets are aligning to allow the move to take place Saturday morning. However, if somehow the piano move doesn't pan out I'll try to be there.

In other news- I rode the XB to work this morning: 29 degrees is still cold. Also, I have finally figured out the strike command. Somebody really should compile a list of the valid commands on Badweb and post them somewhere. In case anyone else is dense like me and thinks the strike command would come in handy, it looks like this:

\ strike { sampletext }

Leave out the spaces and the result looks like this:

Just another reminder about Daytona!

Those staying at Nick's house or going to the BBQ, there is a new list being formed because the overall number is growing to such proportions that it is needed. So far from the NC crowd I see that

M2nc
Rubberdown
Southern Marine
Big Baddy

have RSVP to the list.

I stopped by NRHD today to get my Buell stickers for my bike and my hat. I talked to Tracy and asked him if they had anyone going down for the race. He said they were carrying their bike down to race it. They don't have their XBRR yet, but they will be carrying their older one to race. I told him that I was heading down and that we had a crew going down and that if they had any banners or anything for us to fly that I would be happy to do it for them. I'll be getting back with them. : )

I know I have posted some pictures of my recent change, but here are a few more, before and after, with my stickers on it now. : )

Hmmm...

Contact info for getting our own reservations E-mailed to those going would be a damned good thing...

I PM'ed Jersey-somethingoranother last night with my intentions and got no response and see nothing has been updated...

When I checked the list tonight, Hotrats (Andy) is indeed on the list (and I'm assuming it was on the list last night too)...

Speaking of Andy-
Icehouse is GOOD! For me it is more than just a matter of a GOOD beer, it is also supporting my homeland. To bastardize a famous quote:

"You can take the boy out of Milwaukee, but you can't take the Milwaukee out of the boy."

What I find particularly surprising is that it is a LOT easier to find Icehouse down here than it is in Milwaukee. Most bars in Milwaukee have the standard Miller fare with very few having Icehouse. Even though Icehouse is made by Miller it's like they don't want anyone to realize it.
