On 2nd thought, those titles might not describe the group I rode with in the summer. Maybe something in the vein of "live to ride, ride to eat, eat to live..." Pix from Battletrax at Republic H-D  Reg Kittrelle gives RoadRunr some last-minute advice...  ...and it pays off--he finishes the course!  Republic had this 9S for us to play with. Notice the Road Pig in the background? One of the Republic staff ran the course with it in the low 30.0 second range! There was some major sparkage on that run... I couldn't stay for the whole event, so I don't know what the fast time was, but the best I saw was in the low 27's. Thanks Republic H-D, Reg and Archer! r-t | ||

 Here's Girders doing the flag thing...  X1glider was too stove up to ride, but he could wave a flag with his good arm...nice tongue, Bob!  James is the service manager at Republic H-D. Was a beautiful day to come see you guys. Cil and I had a great ride to and from Houston but you can keep your Houston traffic!! Sure wish the B-trax course had been a little lesss tight!! Was fun seeing you guys again!! | ||

I'll drop off my roll of film tonight. I have a few pics of each of us. The lowest time was 25.81 sec on the XB9S. I don't know who was piloting it but he was getting quicker with each lap. He did about 100 laps on it I think. I think most of us were in the 27s. My low was 27.12 on the XB9R and 29.76 on the Blast, Jeff was trying desperately to break 27 too on his X1. There were about 40 riders total. Was a very fun day. I think RR should have went out for a brew, his wife is pregnant and pissed anyway, staying out for a few brews wouldn't have made it any worse! hehe Buellidan showed up too. Only did one run, but hung out and ate chili cheese dogs. He came with his "favorite ride." She wasn't looking too well and was napping the whole time. Perhaps the long ride did her in. Dan, you should have stayed longer and had a brew. Til next time... I would need a full day with the 9R at this point to tell if I would want one. As of now, my impression is, low speed maneuvers suck. That hairpin was next to impossible. It definitely must be leaned to turn. That hairpin would require dragging elbows and knees to get though it and in my current physical state, I wasn't willing to try it. Definitely better suited to the track and backroad sweepers than obstacle courses. But I was getting more comfotable with each pass. The more I hugged the tank and leaned off it the better it handled. The blast was fun. I did a lot of machine work on the pegs and it handled the hairpin beautifully. We ruined Reg's average. He stated that there is usually 1 crash in 450 laps. We had 4 in about 600. I told him "sorry, this isn't DC BRAG!" The first to dump it was the rider's edge woman on the Blast, the rest were HD riders. The last guy wrecked the 9S at the first turn on his first run and did a whopper on the frame. The frame, bar end, mirror, shifter peg, front and rear pegs, blinkers and plate bracket need replacing. Anyone care to guess at how much damage would have been done with a frame slider? Just a new handle bar grip and maybe a new mirror. There is absolutely no excuse for that kind of damage to happen so easily. To me this is a serious design flaw and a frame slider bosses should be implemented immediately!!! Can you hear me EB? Like I said a fun day, hopefully Republic can sell a couple bikes now. | ||

Funny that the bike has been more extensively tested than about anything slipping past the prying eyes of the DOT and they missed that. I think you meant to say a "nice touch". Buell spend more hours in motorcycle salvage yards and "head on'ing" the XB (up to an instanteous several hundred G's - roughly the equivalent of hitting a brick wall from the moon) and then went above and beyond and did a couple things with the top triple clamp and the head section that won't be seen by the naked eye. Give ya a hint: Erik Buell HAS frame sliders on his personal XB. Take a 4" diameter piece of adhesive velcro, slap that baby on the frame and stick a knee puck to it. Stupid?...nope, the result of testing everything under the sun including welded on studs, nuts to accomadate studs and all sorts of things that REALLY CAN damage the frame on impact. I've seen enough tube frames jimmy in a crash that I am not (although I am in the data collection phase) convinced that the XB frame is at any greater risk. Downside is that it can't be painted over like the tubers. Sounds like you guys had some seriosuly fast "Traxer's" down there! Court | ||
