I think Carlos and Jim Nance are out of this one!!! Maybe the Uly wasn't so expensive after all!

Kristi - You get yourself an XBRR and I'll buy you a Riders Edge class!

Rebecca has a friend who grew up in Wilson. Rebecca asked her if she knew about windmills in Farmville. Apparently the friend used to drop acid and go stare at them.

I bet the friend ended up going to App. State in Boone and became a "Whoooshie".

It seems like we may have a problem finding a place to stay in Daytona...???

Kristi - You get yourself an XBRR and I'll buy you a Riders Edge class!

And I'll put the break in miles on it for you. Putting break in miles on all the S1's, M2's, X1's and S3's that I did I know how much of a pain it is and I offer this service as a friend. But you may need new tires by the time I get done breaking it in. P.S. My definition of breaking a bike in is a little different than Carlos's definition of breaking a bike in...

Apparently the friend used to drop acid and go stare at them.
I bet the friend ended up going to App. State in Boone and became a "Whoooshie".

Oh, the things I have missed not growing up in my formative years in this area... I thought the App. State area in Boone was pretty cool when I was in Boone for Running the Ridge, but alas I was just passing through - I didn't realize it was that cool...

Alrighty then...I just got off an hour and a half long phone call (while injesting a few beers) with the buddy of mine who made the arrangements for our arrangements for the condo last year. Be warned, the names are not changed to protect the innocent, guilty or otherwise misaligned. My buddy, Jeff (1990 Buell RS 1200 owner - well he owns 2 of 'em...), made the arrangements through his buddy Lyle. When asked tonight Jeff gave Lyle's canned response 'There are always rooms available at the condos in Daytona Beach. As long as you have cash and are there, you will be able to find a room.' It doesn't give the comfort level of having reservations, but as Lyle says 'There are always rooms available - as long as you have cash'.

The thing is when I told him about the potential numbers we had:
Me - definite
Carlos - definite
Rubberdown - definite
U4euh - maybe?
Larry - maybe?
Spike - maybe?
Southern Marine - maybe?
(okay, anywhere from 3 to 7 or more - surprised I can still count after draining my beer supply are we? Just think of how many times I had to correct my poor typing skills while somewhat inebriated...)
Jeff was unsure of how many actual rooms would be available at the same condo outfit so we may need to split up, but he did say that 'There are always rooms available'. The deal we had last year was on a 2 bedroom condo, which we actually slept 4 in with the help of a nominal surcharge rollaway bed and the couch already in the condo unit.

Jeff is scheduled to talk with Lyle in the near future and I told Jeff to let me know if there is any news from when he talks to Lyle, so I expect to hear back within a week or so. But Jeff did say 'There are always rooms available as long as you have cash...'.

I guess this is where the A in BRAG really comes to light...

I'm willing to chance it myself (but by being a little bit better prepared than last year) and I will hopefully be able to provide more confidence to everyone else in the near future.

So what does everyone else think?
a) A is for Adventure, so BRING IT ON!
b) Reservations? I've never had any reservations in my life...Why start?
c) A floor is a floor is a floor...I'll sleep wherever I have room.
d) I think I'd rather stay at App. State in Boone and become a "Whoooshie"...

1313

BTW, A little something to ponder...well, I'm not going to go there until I make the phone call I have to make tomorrow night...I need to extend some birthday greetings to a close friend and based on the results on my conversation some 'consolation prizes' may be reveal themselves for other events later this year...For those who might not be able to make Daytona. Not to draw anything away from Daytona because...I WILL BE THERE!

1313 x 2 - OK, I'm done for now

Oh yeah, BTW # 2...

Southern Marine,
If NRHD/Buell does get in a XBRR:
1. I want to take a demo ride! OK, pictures and an in depth examination will be fine...
2. They will become my dealer of choice - as they do have a
Buell sign on their building...

Jim -- no luck on the windmills. Does the book give a specific location/directions? Thanks for the offer on the Rider's Edge Class -- if I find an extra $31,000 around the house something tells me it will go to a new kitchen! Carlos may not agree, but he will loose! As it is now, the last time I rode I think was the night we met you and Rebecca for dinner in Smithfield.

1313 -- What a generous offer to break in a new bike for me. If I ever get enough time or nerve to try riding (I guess actually driving), something tells me it will be already broken in. As Jim Nance has said in the past, it hurts a lot less to drop a $4,000 bike. I'll keep your offer in mind though!

Rubberdown -- you are on the same track that I was. I had planned to e-mail VegasBueller today. Great minds think alike!

Maybe we'll see you guys this weekend.

Kristi

Ok, I am going if we have a place to stay. As with all outings I agree to, I am conditional if my kids are sick (and most of you guys know about all that). I may take Carlos up on some storage space, although I am also looking into the XB saddlebags, as my Buell sling bag is already almost worn out.

As for the windmills- with Acid you don't really need real windmills to see them. Could be a old farm windmill or a electricity generating windmill which would make it fairly new. Not very likely that its a big Holland style picture type windmill. Probably why you cant find it.

PArty Central!!!!!

Mike,
I am sure we can make room for them! LOL I am going to get an official head count today, but we'll be fine. Like I said, as long as they have sleeping bags and a pillow there will be room. We found out today that Court will be here for the cookout so get your ears ready to listen to some good stories! We are working our asses off to get the house all ready. Man this is going to be fun!

See ya later,

Some things I want to share that I have noticed since I have been back:

1. Two streets over from me there is someone with a black 12R. I need to wheel around there, introduce myself and let him know about us. He has SEVERAL bikes.

2. My wife has seen another red 12R here on the base. He is evidently a Marine as well.

3. I have seen SEVERAL other Buells around Jacksonville/Lejeune.

4. Britt Motorsports has a CityX on their lot in the used bikes section, shame. : (

5. NRHD/Buell seems to be REALLY dedicated to Buell, let's hope they stay that way.

6. I MISSED MY BIKE AND LOVE RIDING IT. : )

I'm still talking with my wife about Daytona. She wants to go as well and if we do we might be staying at her parents in Ocala, not sure yet. : (

What are we doing for February?

RB - Man that is great! Now we have to just make up our minds on what we want to do. The condo was cool, but knowing for sure where we are going to stay is a must. Also, I don't know about 1313, but catching up with Court is always a plus.

SM - The only thing for sure is that we are going to have C3 meeting Feb 12th. Where and when is not nailed down yet.

As far as for NRHD/Buell, I have to agree, they seem to be more excited about Buell than Shelton's, but I don't see Dave S. worried. They talk the talk, but I'm still waiting to see them walk the walk.

My current plans are riding to Farmville on Sat morning, leaving from Raleigh at 10:00 am. I'd love to have some company on either end of that trip. Anyone interested?

I haven't located the windmills yet, but thats just an excuse to go for a ride. I'm be down there windmills or not.

'Letta and I will be happy to join you. I don't know of any windmills in Farmville, matter of fact, there isn't much of anything in Farmville, but there are some good roads and nice scenery so it's worth the trip.

If I can make a suggestion, come via Alt 264 instead of US 264. It's a nice scenic ride for most of the route, gets a little flat as you get closer to Farmville but is a lot more relaxing then the highway.

Where should we meet?

I found my windmills! They are in Lucama, 8 miles south of Wilson. Take a look.
And here is a map.

Farmville was on the next page of the book, so thats where the confusion came from. Looks like a decent destination and a good place to meet up. Is that decently close to you all? And do you know any good roads nearby?

Unless there's some un-forseen circumstance, I believe Pauletta and I are good.

Lucama is just a hop, skip, and a jump from where we are so no worries.

What time and where is all that's left to determine.

Dave - Great! I'm looking forward to seeing you and Pauletta. I was planning on leaving Raleigh at 10:00 and going to Clayton to pick up Malcolm. Perhaps I should move that back a bit, I don't know what time Carlos and Kristi will be free? If I leave at 10:00, I'll be in Wilson between 11:30 and 12:00.

Is Lucama a good place to meet (7219 NC-1111 to be precise)? There is at least something interesting to look at, so that if someone gets there early they have something to do (I still feel guilty about how long you had to wait for me last time). We could then grab some lunch and explore some roads. My only real constraint is that I need to get home by about 5:00.

Jim -- we have a sitter, but will have to be home by 4:00. Doesn't leave much time, but we can make the most of it. I'm hoping we can leave home around 11:30 or so. I think it will take us an hour or so to get to Wilson. Maybe we could meet you for lunch somewhere.

As for Daytona, this wife is staying home. Someone has to take care of the children (atleast the ones under 18!!).

I'm still hoping for a trip out to Boone this summer with several other couples. Pauletta and I have looked at some cabins/cottages that would house 8-10 people. We'll see how that plays out.

I'm sure we'll chat later tonight about tomorrow.

I would love to meet up with you guys but I figure I need to save my "leave the wife trapped at home alone with the kids" for Daytona...Life is short, she will end it early if I do that to her to much, and I have to pull my front tire and put the Daytona replacement on too(It's getting a little slick).
