The slabers must bow to the MOB. John you will be happy to know we rode straight threw. Got home about 1am. We passed one guy in a van about midnight. As we passed doin 85ish. Sams throttle was stuck on 85 to 95. The guy rolls down his window and gives us the thumbs up sign. You would have loved it. It was Frigin Cold. It had to be in the 20s. Frank got a brain freeze. He had the headache to prove it. Rich looked like the mummy trying to ride. And all I have to say for my self is thank God for electric clothes. The other guys deserve the credit. To tough for me. I feel old.

It was nice to get to see you fella's once again :D !!! I had a great time, along with everyone else (all except the whole "I don't HAVE to have a plug wrench on my Buell :P !" incident) Got home at 1:30 myself, slept like a baby. You guys let us know when you scout Arkansas...we'll meet you on the way :D (Hopefully, the Buell will be back together, shiny and perdy ;) )

DAve,
Where did ya go Dave? Didn't even get a chance to say hi. Where ya stuck in a Kermit chair at the BMW booth?? hehehehe Those BMW guys are quite the characters............:D

John...We knew Frank and Sam were riders but I'm beginning to think there's more to this KCMOB bunch than we suspected...It was great seeing all of you again and we're glad you made it back to the prairie okay...A bit chilled, I take it, but okay none the less...I take it you didn't see any critters along the way...

Yea DAve, check in and let us know you're also okay...We missed you last night but I take it LEvi had to get home...

And Frank, you're 100% right about beemerphiles...

We did Bixby, then KK south and west over to 19 and then up to 44 and to Jack's...Joe Sparrow joined us...He's about got his new wing broken in...Ten months old...35,000 miles...He just trying to get the most out of that 36 month unlimited mileage warranty...Great day, great company...

See Ya!

Yeah we felt the show lacked something this year and we didn't stay as long as planned. It was almost depressing not seeing any tubers at the Buell display.

You KC fellers have balls! It's one thing to ride when it's cold ... but dark and cold. I don't like that chit at all. :)

DAve,
You should have stayed a little longer. We all went into the Buell display and voiced our displeasure with the lack of a sport tourer in the lineup. (not that it would do any good, except to make us feel better in that at least we voiced our opinions). The fellow there, Bill, was a good sport about it. He then ask us if we would like to write a note to Erik and promised to give it to him this AM. We crafted a quick note about the lack of such a bike and all signed it, with their name, model, and mileage of their bike.

Yeah you are right, the Buell booth was lacking.

Bikes I liked at the show:
Aprilia Tauno
Honda ST1300
Honda VFR
Yamaha 1300
BMW K1200rs
Bmw R1100s
Susuki V Strom

I thought the lack of Ducati and KTM displays was interesting.

Later,
John in winter mode.

SLABbers,
Our trip to STL was fantastic! not to say some of us weren't COLD! I had a really good time seeing all of you and chatting up the bikes and came home with a couple of trinkets from the show. I can't believe you thought the Buell booth was lacking...they had the "perfect" seat on that firebolt! Dinner was delicious with lots of great conversation. The trip home was uneventful other than Richie actually getting to witness his speedo working above 60mph.....we didn't run into any critters (always vigilant though...opening day of dear season, I expected they would be scrambling in the cover of darkness for safe cover.... seemed to be evidenced by the ungodly amount of meat on the road.) I did have two emergency dodging maneuvers, one Skunk carcass and the base of an orange barrel in my lane. I arrived at my doorstep approx. 1:45am and no sooner than I got peeled my van shows up in the driveway full of the KC SBN'ers. I caught them in the midst of setting me up for some serious prankage....they didn't think I would be riding home til Sun. And they definitely didn't think I would beat them there.

Anyways... great time, let us know when you want to do it again. My fellow MOBbers all think they are tough now. They are! "whose idea was this?" said by one unnamed individual with chattering teeth at our last fueling.........

Regards Sam

8:00 - Canadian Motocross - Okay, so they're getting desperate now....
9:00 - 125cc GP from Valencia - Flea racing

Okay, so the winter months are here and there's not a lot of good racing

I've waited a bit to post this to see if I'd still feel the same and I do...Like a lot of you I was bummed by the Buell display at the motorcycle show...And I've learned to LISTEN to Josh's insights into things Buell...He was spot on regarding the Firebolt and I was not...He said that if one looks back at Buell's history you can see that Erik never intended to build a sport-tourer and that it just kind of happened with the S2-S3 line...And that he doesn't see them doing that again any time soon, if ever...And I really can't say that I blame Buell...I think if I look at the market and the heavy competition in that catagory I would try to find another niche and with the XB9's I feel that they have done that...And the new engine, fine as it is, may not be suited to long haul, minimum maintenance sport touring...After all it's still a 45 degree twin with all the inherent vibration problems that that entails...Also, when I look at my riding rationally I realize that I can hustle the beemer down a twisty just about as well at sane speeds and I wonder if I couldn't also be happy with either the ST1300 or FJR1300...Probably could...They also satisfy the dealer network requirement that led me to Buell instead of Ducati in the first place...Soooo, I think where I'm going with this is that in the spring when I can also get a look and ride the K1200GT I will probably make a decision to trade both the RT and S3T...What am I leaning to as of now?...Honda's 36 month unlimited mileage warranty may be the swing vote...

Here's the problem with all this and I hope it really isn't one...Most of you have become really good friends and I do not want to lose that but I will probably gravitate more and more over to being involved in the HSTA...As you all know, despite the first word in the name, it's really a club of sport and sport touring riders on all kinds of scoots...Several times at the show the HSTA booth was manned by no one that owned a Honda...That's one of the neat things about it...But there is also a place in my heart for single brand clubs and activities where everyone shares so much regarding their motorcycles and their inherent attractions and foibles...BRAG and SLAB have been great fun...That said, I've been asked to become more involved in HSTA's Friends of Freddies rally next year and I've accepted...Combine this with the touring that John and I want to do next summer and my plate will probably be full as regards organizing a Buell only Arkansas or Deal's Gap rally...I will also still do the small bit of organizing the "Third Sunday" SLAB/HSTA ride...I'm not going away...

Regards,

Bob

Well Mr. Bob, I'm quite happy with my Duc but then again it will probably never see the mileage you put on a bike. However, it did come with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty and from what I can read on the Duc boards regarding the ST4S bikes, the issues are minor...but they'll probably never have the dealer network that Big Red provides
....So, run what ya brung and the rest of us will try to keep yer tail in sight! And oh by the way, Malone's ribs didn't hold a candle to lunch at the Elbow Inn.

Well my only problem with HSTA (now that I'm a member can I bitch? ;) ) is there's too many people. Hell I can't remember all the Buellers and there's only a double handful. Bob you'd better not go away who the hell else is going to organize rides?

I think Buell will release better "touring" stuff for the XB platform but I don't think they'll be making a bike for you guys anytime soon. Closest American bike will be the FXD...uhm shit what ever the sport touring FXD is and I bet that's just fine for the HD/Buell thinkers.
SportTouring means a decent fairing, 5.5 gal minimum and plenty of storage none of which is trivial for the XB platform. Anyway, look at the # of S3T sold, then look at the competition (Aprillia!, ST4s) then look at all the bikes Erik has been "excited" about : S1, X1, XB (notice a pattern?)

I didn't bother asking anyone about the future of a st model but I sure ain't holding my breath. When (if?) ShadowFax dies i'll look for a low miles ST4s, although the matte-finish Aprillia doesn't look too bad. Hmmm, or a 'busa with Givis or...

Ya know...it's like a good friend you've known for over 20 years finally comin' out of the closet....;) (Motorcycle wise?) Not any real glass shattering news BOb. You've been slightly disenchanted with Buell as some of us are for some time. You're just too damn neutral and brand loyalty isn't your strong point. Nothing at all wrong with that. You look at bikes more rationally than some of us do. But ya know...that price tag on the K1200GT is rather eye opening! :)

Alaska and the Alaska trip is gnawing at me even as I write this. A number of reasons but I still want to ride to Anchorage. What is the motorcycle to accomplish this? The sane side of me laughs at the thought of a Buell. The fuck it let's have an adventure side says to take the S2/S3. Perhaps a ride to Newfoundland is in order or maybe a ride to WA and SPLASH. The north west is callin' me for certain.

SLAB has and will never see the numbers of HSTA and in many ways I like that better. Its a comfort thing I guess and there is that thought in the back of my mind that HSTA is a group that had riders never come back from a ride. I know we charge each other to ride in their own 'zone'.

As far as Buells and no sport touring line up. I'll go against the popular thought and believe (click my ruby red slippers) that Buell has something...no...a few things in store. Many reasons but look at production from a modular stand point. What would it take to tweak the XB9_ platform to accommodate sport touring items? What about a dual purpose XB9_? (Seen that Tiger 955i?) Let's turn the heat up a notch and realize the XB912 could happen. Think modular components built on a common engine and frame. Stop the line and change over to model X for a day or two.

X- Fuel cell in frame
B- Buell line
9- Displacement
R- Firebolt, S- Lightning

I am sure there were a few out there that either got the Firebolt or played with the idea of the Firebolt and simply said 'ohhhh yeahhhhh' over the new Lightning. So now Buell will turn it up a bit and offer something to appeal more or to appeal to the ones holding back. It's about market share and money. I think that with the production quality (not only from a end product standpoint but from a quality/efficiency of production standpoint) so high ... Buell will offer more models to cover more buyers' needs.

Will their offering be on par with the K1200GT? Mmmmmm I'd be surprised...but I'm thinking it'll have a MSRP for $11k or less.

Bottom line...you really ain't going know where BOb...just focusing on different venues/rides. What's the worse thing that could happen? You ride your BMW to an HSTA and some Buellers are there too? ;)

married bitches hahahahahaha

As long as we're riding together I'll always be watchin' your tail my closet door opening smooth riding friend. ... well ... yours or John's. :-)

Bob,
I am not really too surprised you've taken this path. I can completely understand how you feel. If I had half the problems with "my dealer" and/or bike, and didn't work at "a dealership" and didn't work on my own shit, I would probably follow suit. Ironically, I do work at a dealership. And I've been watching the complaints and things that are happening on this board and around me. I'm glad I don't have to go through the things some of you are/were going through. Then again, I joined the game late, and missed out on all the recalls and general hell that you kind fellas (or wild ruffians...whichever you prefer ;) ) have had to endure. And the situation is alot different for me. I'm not aware of any recalls or any problems I've had with the bike, that I didn't cause in some way ;)

With that said, I'm with you 95%...I really doubt I'll be buying an XB. Being a 6'1" fat guy, on a bike that was designed for a scrawny shithead, like Sam (hehehehehe), ain't pretty. I'm sure it looks bad enough on a M2L LOL....poor thing :/ But I too, with DAve, think there's a chance for a BIG XB WITH BAGS! But who knows when. Which brings me back to my current dilemma...since I'm not planning on buying a bolt (even as nicely as they are put together from a "build quality" point of view), I've decided my next bike should be a S3T..S3 if I found a good deal........

Moving back onto the beaten path, I really hope you stay in touch with us "ruffians". I think I speak for the rest of us, when I say that you are just a blast to ride with!! Keep us in mind when you are astride one of those.."waterbuffalo's".
Just because we all seek different things when we throw a leg over our bikes doesn't mean we can't ride together anymore :) I shouldn't have to tell ya that, but I thought I would anyways :D
Myself, that slow, caveman engineered lumpa-d-lump exaust note will always keep me coming back. Maybe its the black, white and orange running through my veins, but nothing really catches my eye out there, and says "Hey YOU, BUY ME!!" Don't get me wrong, I love the technology in the other stuff. If Harley was hurting for money, I'm sure these technologies would FINALLY find their way into the lineup. But as luck would have it, they sell too many T-shirts, and chrome junk to worry about "what the other guys are doing". But Alas! Maybe the V-Rod will prove me wrong in my opinion. I certainly hope so. LOL, once again, I've wandered off the beaten path....these are my 2 cents, for what they're worth......I'm through wasting you all's time, hehe

Keep the rubber side down, whatever you may be riding ;)

Frank
