So it looks like we have to figure out where everyone will be staying.
It would be cool if we could set up a dinner somewhere.

Where to basecamp on Friday and Sat night?
Close to East Troy or close to the track?

If close to the track is the plan I could help set up something in Appleton. It is about 50 miles from the track.
Might be hard this late to get everyone in a place in Elkhart Lake,I'm thinking that might already be full? Some people probably plan ahead and book those rooms early?

I don't even know what to say about BRAGs plan

Oh yeah my thoughts are to get everyone staying closer to the track that way the commute is easier on everyone back and fourth to Road America every day. If people want to start looking for places in the area it would be smart.

It's going to be tough to get something close to the track. There's just not too much out that way. I suggest we make someplace like West Bend, Oshkosh or Appleton the "home base" for the weekend.

Let me know how I can help.

home-brewed is best, I'm thinkin --

besides, it'll be much more fun to watch the fur fly after someone trashes the efforts of their fellow-riders, rather than some poor, underfunded, likely mis-led line-level manager tryin to please everyone with no resources . .. .

I think Oshkosh/Appleton and/or West Bend -- mebbe both? south for the first couple a days to play in SW Wisconsin, up nort for the races . . .

Lake -- I'll bring the flask again

We should also think of something for those that will not be attending the races.
I am going to the races but I know that's not everyone's cup o tea.

Since Friday is the only day we need to be in the East Troy area I think we should move closer to the track.

I'm thinking,
Pick a town/hotel and get that set up.This should be the #1 priority at this time.

Place for dinner Friday night

Rides or something to do for those not going to the races for Saturday?,will need people to plan and map it out.

Place for dinner Sat night?

On the evening news the other night (Monday I think) they showed a short blurb, just audio with the June dates in the background. Said Buell is having a Homecoming with riders and owners coming in from all parts of the country. Then it referred people to buell.com for more info.

I don't recall seeing anything like that in years past for the Buell Homecoming. Now they get local prime-time news coverage this year, and early too. Don't know how that press release came to pass, who orchestrated it, or who greased the skids, or maybe it was just a slow news days or something and the reporters went looking for local Milwaukee area stories.

In any case, some of you folks may want to consider Plymouth for a home base. They have the flat track there, a short hop to RoadAmerica, and they're a bit accustomed to local hooligans to some extent.

Okay, that's all I have. I just thought it was interesting to hear about the 2006 Homecoming on the local TV news. Back to lurk mode.

Plymouth to Elkhart Lake is about 7 miles as the Buell flies. RoadAmerica is about half way in between. I have no idea what sorts of hotels are in Plymouth, just that it's a little less "resorty" than Elkhart. YMMV.

Carry on....

Going to be hard to get 100 plus people rooms this late in the game anywhere near Road America.

Some people plan ahead, too bad BRAG doesn't.

I have an idea....host hotel in Oshkosh with a dinner at the EAA Airventure Museum!

There are plenty of rooms available in the area. Just for sh!ts & grins, I check on the Baymont Inn. Rooms start at $56 per night with plenty of availability.

Oshkosh is 100 miles from East Troy, 50 miles from Road America and 20 miles from Appleton.

Can we get a sponsor for a Friday BattleTrax?

D@mn....I wasn't going to get too involved

Yep, I like young (as in 40+) men in leather !! : )

Actually I'm interested in the races, I love watching them, so close to the track works for me. And of course I'd like to get some riding in when not watching the races !!

West Bend is a pretty good choice to my mind. A very nice ride to the race track and it easy to get to from many places. Not too far from East Troy either.

Any place within 20 minutes of the track will be very heavily booked for a race weekend.

Last year some of the local motels in Port Washington said they fill up every year for these races. Some have people book their rooms 6-12 months in advance for the races, and Port is about 35 miles or so from the track.

Sheboygan and Manitowoc have been undergoing a hotel building expansion due to the USGA tournament at Kohler. That might be another option to consider. Sheboygan is about 20 miles from the track, Manitowoc is about 40, West Bend is about 30 or so if you go up hwy-144/28. Oshkosh is about 45-50 miles from the track, but due to being set up to handle the EAA AirAdventure convention/expo every year that area is probably a good choice to find rooms if nothing else is happening in that area.

And a dinner at the air museum would be great, especially if BRAG membership isn't required for those folks who aren't currently members but still might want to be able to participate to some extent.

Wearing the 'stich at the air museum, folks might think you're an early arriver aviator. ;)

There would be an interesting confluence of Buell and the AirMuseum. And that aircract on a pole out at the entrance would be a great place to get a pic of a bunch of Buells, and whatever else people ride in on.

I wonder how many private pilot Buell owners would fly in if it were home-brew-based out of Oshkosh. I know there's a bunch of pilots around here on the site.

My basic goal is to get an idea of attendence and price treashhold.
