Hi Ya'all, We're back from our southern tour, after 4800 miles of trailering the bikes to Nashville and back and 3600 miles riding through the southern states in great summer weather... and on some great scenic (Blue Ridge and Natchez Trace Parkways) and twisty (Deal's Gap, NC & TN, Hwy 16 WV, VA & Hwy 60 in GA were highlights) roads. Hope to ride with you on SPLASH & Border Raid next year! MG & LS

Branden, any idea wht caused that odd break?Seems a strange place for one.Have Bob weld it back up and keep running it.Or save up and buy the 1250 motor I will be selling from my Bonneville bike. All the right stuff and only low miles put on by a little old lady going to church on sunday--actually,probably has a dozen dyno pulls and less than 80 miles on it.Still unsure if I will run one more time at El Mirage or not.

The closest I've been to riding lately is being over at Bob&Debbies Motorcycle Museum X-raying one of the dogs. (Not Dingus) Dosen't look too good for this little fella, but he's getting loved.
Waiting 'till friday (payday) to get the one tool I don't have to get the bloody Buell apart and stuff off to the machine shop. From her ashes will rise... something noisey!

OMG - those pictures certainly confirm that there is something good about always being way in the back or out front. Seems mid pack took the beating. YIKES!

side note: those big lard butt motorcycle plates would not look good under Deb's tail section. She can make anything look good, but I think those would be a push!

Not for sure what caused the break, the chain tension was weirding out on me though when we got the new motor in, so I changed the swingarm and all the bearings in the wheels and what nots and it seems to be ok now....

Ya gotta have a chuckle haven't ya?
Air inflating jackets and now an airbag that has the potential to blow you clean off the bike if it accidently inflates.
I am not convinced it is a good solution.
air bags for parachuters is practicle. Has potential to add a little more spice to the landing.

Just figured I'd throw out an email and see if we had any Seattle area badwebbers out there who could recommend a good shop/dealer or other rider related events in the area that I should make it a point to go to.

I'm going to be moving there in May and bringing my S3T with me. Even considering going "bike only" and getting rid of the Jeep but I'll probably sit through one winter there before I make that decision.

Hey Mil, welcome to the left coast. At least when you get here! There are indeed a couple rides that are not to be missed 1) SPLASH; a great ride around Mt. St. Helens in July, and 2) BordeRaid, a trip to Canadia over Labour Day. There you can meet a bunch of nuts.
As for a shop, I'll leave that for someone else.

Hey Sparropie,

Thanks for the heads up on that. Do you have any more information/specifics/websites about those two rides? A local BRAG chapter?

With the weather there, is two-wheeling it year round practical?

Awfully quiet around here. Everybody moved to a Triumph site or something?
I'm happy to report that the warden has signed my parole papers. Day parole, anyway. She's still sleeping on the couch til spring. But I'm officially a free man as of Halloween. So bring your daughters and (younger) sisters along to SPLASH next summer.
For those who offered support and advice through the last while, thank you. The advice from some quarters (you know who you are)I'll be looking forward to applying to the next Mrs. Sportyeric.
A diversion of funds from motorcycling to dating means I'll have to miss the IMS this year. I'm wrestling with the effect on the Sportster rebuild fund. Jim says I'll have to decide what I want to ride. I guess he means the Sporty or the Buell, right?
I'm sold on the internet dating thing and ran a search with "motorcycles" as a required field. Got eight PAGES! Met the first (and best, of course) tonight and I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be riding sweep next year as she's just learning.

Second Episode of BordeRaid 2005. (The first is posted in StormFronts/BordeRaid)
So, I had survived the Great Rock Wall, and been reborn. Again. I had great fun passing some of my pals catching up to the end of the road, where we stop to regroup and wait for the ferry to pull in. It was a metric ferry. It pulled itself across the water with a submerged cable. Really. But it held all the bikes, and they let us on first, so who can say. When in Rome, eh? A short two minute ride and we were eating lunch. Mmmmm, Biker Burgers. And then it started to continue to rain for the wait at the ferry and the ride back to Pentictin. Now I have to say that they were selling gas there at the Biker Burger, but I checked an had only gone about 80 miles, so I decided to wait until half way back. oopsie.
Its a nice ride at a nice pace and Im kinda looking for the place where I went Off Road to see if I can figure out what happened and when we stop to regroup am I ever surprised to see the yellow light telling me Im out of fuell. While Im looking over the bike I see a new crack in the header right by the O2 sensor. So its giving the fuell injection the wrong info, its running super rich, and thats where the fuell is going. Bob looks at me like Red Foreman calling Eric DUMB , and I can only agree. (W.W.B.D? He woulda filled up at Biker Burger, thats what) Well the road is running down hill now, Im staying below 2,000 rpm and totally shutting down and coasting when ever the opportunity presents its self until I see a sign saying gas in 8 K. I quickly do the math and figure that I can make it 20 feet or so. Have I mentioned that its quite quiet in the forest primeval when I shut the bike down? Its very quiet as Im going so slow there is no wind noise, only the sound of the tires on the wet road. Very different from the normal Buell riding experience, and particularly since all this exhaust stuff started coming apart with the popping and exploding and little parts showing up missing. Do dee do dee do sez I to myself and just at the complete, total and absolute bottom of the last hill before flat open farmland I roll to a stop at a turn off. Right to gas, straight to follow the crew. So now I must go off route to be able to follow the route. Sheesh, they will never find me . . . Off puttering and sputtering toward the sweet smell of Canadian Petrol I go with that yellow warning light putting out about a hundred candlepower now just so I dont forget that these fuell injected bikes little computer brains dont like to have their tanks run dry. Not at all. Nope. The bike is coughing and choking as the fumes run out and I lurch to a halt two feet from the pump. This station is in the real middle of nowhere and as I fill up with what I suspect to be tractor fuell Im trying to imagine catching up with the group, or perhaps finding my way back on my own to Pentictin, or maybe sleeping in the bushes, when the pump shuts off and Betty fires up and we are soon surging and jerking back to the main road. So this is why your not supposed to run out of gas . . . Its really bucking and kicking and then . . . it starts to smooth out. I guess it reset or got used to what ever it was I filled it up with cause it just slowly comes back to normal and we pull onto the road back to the world. Now since I had noticed that crack by the O2 dealio I decided to take it easy on the way home. If that plug blew out Id have six inches of fire howling onto my battery, and I just dont think I could get too far like that. So I throttle back and just let the scenery fill my head pretending Im on some old school bike, born like me in the 50s, keeping the RPMs down, siting up straight, feet flat in the turns. Betty is sounding like a B 29 coming home from destroying a German ball bearing factory; shotup and missing badly, but still pulling in low over the fields of Bristol. Yea, like that all the way back to where the inconvenience stores started to show up interspersed with speed traps and Winnabagos and I decided to just take the same highway back into town I had yesterday. After about twenty miles or so I saw a motorcycle up ahead and caught up after a few lights only to find that it was that Personal Friend of Mine and motorcyclist extrordinair, Mike! Yes somehow out of all of the uncountable zillions of impossibilities Mike and I had been drawn like two opposite charges through a vacuum until here we were, held together in synchronous orbits traveling toward our inescapable predestined final destination . . . huh? (I think I mean we were both on the same road going to the same place.) Mike later told me he was riding along peacefully when he heard an ungodly racket and general cacophony pulling in next to him and was pleased to see it was me as I was the only one of us he was worried about not making it back OK. I never found out what he meant by that crack but we had a good ride into town and nothing else fell off my Buell.

Still working on the tale of the Tail, er Speed Wobble Experience.

Galen,
Another outstanding version of the BorderRaid relived. I know that cursed yellow light all too well. I think the boys should go in search of another speed wobble though they are very dangerous and unpredictable, but fun to watch.

Bike show coming up quick. Has anyone thought of arrangements for getting together for a couple of wobbly pops the night before?

I'm sold on the concept big-time, Galen! You don't have to pay anything to run a search on Lavalife. You can do a simple search (age, height, area, build, etc) without doing anything. If you sign in a create a profile (which you can choose to'remain hidden') you can run more specific searches (like hobbies: motorcycles). Then if you want to say hello you have to pony up $15 for 8 contacts. I've got 48 matches for over 5'6", within 12 years of my age (you can only hope),'motorcycles', and within 20 miles of home. I'm waiting on number three's reply now, although number two's the one I'm hoping for.

I see where Laguna Seca is bumping our SPLASH weekend. What's the plan? I think Laguna is the weekend around the 21st. So Does SPLASH move back to the 14th (ish). Or do we make the lucky buggers that usually do both have to pick one or the other? Have fun at the IMS.
