Micah,

"It seems it just keep breaking the v-twin."\
Your profile lists the following problems...
12000 Rocker Gaskets
16000 Primary Gasket and After market Muffler mounts/bushings
16500 Clutch Cable Housing on Primary.

I recall you had some bad spark plugs once, expensive ones that fried your coil.

"It seems it just keep breaking the v-twin."
What are you talking about?

Angela, I'm glad they found something that was throwing the codes. I know how frustrating it can get when your bike is down. At least it picked some good weather too act up... Maybe with it being under warranty they'll pick up the 'freight' charge too... Good Luck and let us know how everything turns out...

Blake,
It seems that every time I fix a problem it exposes another. I surely have been a bad forum poster and not listed all of my ills with the M2.

In short...

Rocker Gaskets
Spark plugs
Wires
Coil
Battery
Primary Gasket
Valve train
muffler clamps breaking fore and aft repeatedly
swing arm bushing
motor isolators
primary chain tensioner
vapor locking during the summer months with the force winder

Obviously, I made a loose statement with the V-twin breaking. On a totally personal level(experience), my family has always been into HD. My father's first purchase as an adult in 1967 was a Sporty. I love them, but I seem to always find their weakness. I ride them to hard or push them to a breaking point whether it be in the accessories or the motor itself. I have paid for numerous Top End rebuilds and Gasket replacements. I was really hoping the Evo engine would address this. It seems after talking with AE Buell/HD (Stephen in Service) and letting him in on the way I ride he says the V-twin will always have reliability issues when pushing the motor up to 7-8k. He stated that the design of the motor creates so much pressure at those revs that it has to go somewhere and it will continue to cause leaks or in David's case a rebuild every 10k miles or so due to oiling issues. He stated it was a peaks and valley motor for racing and or sport riding. Even if I modded the motor to run at higher rpm's changed the gearing to ease the revs I would be rebuilding or refreshing often.

With all that said, what I was looking for was an excuse to end a love affair with my M2. I seriously doubt that is going to happen. See I have 3 bikes, a 83' ironhead, 00' Yamaha R1 and my 00' M2. Everyday I have a choice to ride any of them and I find myself getting on the Buell every time.
I wish I could find a happy medium with her. If I replace something or get it fixed it doesn't expose another issue. I worry because in my experiences with hotrods everything is Cyclic, meaning ("dagone! Didn't I just fix that last year"; ) Anyway! I am not the type of person that flip flops on issues or choices that I made, that is why this issue is challenging me.

I'm not hispanic. Actually, I'm as close to a mutt as a human can get.

But my wife is Mexican. And if she's now an American due to marrying me, I guess I can consider myself Mexican just the same.

So, I am Mexican. Ole'!

hello all,

I'm new to this board, and I'm stoked to find some more buell riders. I work at HD of Dallas in allen, and I'm the ONLY one there that rides a buell.

I would like to find out if you guys have group rides on any other day besides saturday(I work EVERY saturday) because I would love to ride with you.

Angela, I"m the one that met yall at LongHorn. Ponytail, mustache, and the Shoei helmet you liked the paint on. Led for a little bit between Venus and Cleburne, where we made the wrong turns...: ) You're leaving Bruce out, about my size, shorter hair, rides another 12R with the dark or smoke windscreen...
Bret, PM me,Chris, or any one of us and we'll put you on our mailing list... Hey, does Brian work at the Allen store? Did he work at the Dallas store a couple years ago? I talked to one of the techs when I looking for my 12 R and he did seem knowledgeable...

Micah,

You had wires go bad due to the V-Twin? : ?

I'm still running the stock wires on my '97 Cyclone. You sure that wasn't a result of misdiagnosis or related to your bad spark plugs/coil episode? :/ Sounds to me like plugs fried coil and wires maybe? What kind of plugs were those anyway?

What trouble did you have with the "valvetrain"? and why did you have the umbrella valves out anyway? : ?

Battery? Dude, motorcycle batteries, especially in the heat of Texas are notorious for lasting but two or three years. You really wanna lay that on the V-Twin? Blame it on Texas. ; )

Muffler clamps? Been there, done that. If you are still having trouble, I suggest you put the stock can back on. The aftermarket just didn't grasp the whole vibrating engine concept. You really blaming the V-Twin for problematic aftermarket muffler bracketry? Consider it a challenge to your manhood. Go forth and couquer! LOL Seriously, though, check into the upgraded "Y" mount, or wait, did that come out in '00? Heck I'm going senile, can't recall. Anyway, that might help if you don't already have it.

Vapor Locking with Forcewinder? Don't know for sure what you are talking about on that. Never heard of that before on a carbureted Buell. Might want to check your Forcewinder float bowl vent portal based on this report. Or, might want to check your tank vent. I have the stock carb and have pushed my Cyclone to unGodly extreme temperatures and never had any kind of "vapor lock."

What is a "swingarm bushing" and what was the trouble with it?

I guess I'm not seeing the reality of the drama that I am reading in your posts. Maybe you didn't mean to communicate the drama that I am reading into your post. I'm kinda sensitive about folks making negative accusations about my favorite sport bike engine. Mostly on account of there are a few very unfortunate individuals who will use the words of others to spew there anti-Buell bile all over the internet. So I like to be sure we come across as accurate and objective as possible here on BadWeB when it comes to problems solving/diagnosis.

Isolators? Weren't those replaced via goodwill upgrade? Mine were. : )

I know I'm picking on you here, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't think you didn't deserve it. ; ) Dude, you didn't know in which end of the rockerboxes to reinstal the umbrella valves. I just gotta wonder if you might be unwittingly bringing some of the issues upon yourself. Fancy high dollar spark plugs, aftermarket muffler, intake, overfilling tranny, the umbrella valve thing... Now you are naming parts that I'm not sure even exist, "swingarm bushing"? Dude, you sound dangerous with a wrench in your hands. joker A real Mr. Bad-Wrench. joker

Hey, been there, done that! I've done similar things. I once took my Cyclone to the shop when it quit running except at idle. Turned out that in installing a new intake, the Bartel's CF one at that time, I had threaded a screw into the float bowl breather passage of the carb. And here I had thought that I had lost a darn screw and had to find another one to fit. D'OH! Talk about embarrassing. But heck, I was so thankful to have the problem solved, I was happy to pay-up and take my lumps.

I bought a service manual shortly after that incident and began listening and reading and drinking in all the great technical discussions here on BadWeB. So far so good on the rest of the routine maintenance and modifications I've done over the years, going on eight years now too. c ontent

I guess what I'm saying is keep at it, you are learning. If your oil puking turns out to be due to an overfilled tranny, that will be just one more hard lesson learned, but learned very well eh?

Hang in there amigo. : )

Very cool pics, Micah. I sure do wish that I'd been able to make that ride. Had to limit my time off requests, though, and I reasoned that the Jan. ride juuust might be more worth it. In any case, thanks for sharing.

Dago,

I have a black 9s. We sold a yellow one here a while back, but no one at the shop rides one. Are you thinking of the dealership in Garland maybe?

girlscan,

you are going to love what the race kit does for your bike, I have been very happy with mine.

The Voting systems is designed for the Most Popular galleries. If I have pictures that get a lot of votes or comments then PBase will rank it as one of the Most Popular.

That is how it has been explained to me.

You can comment on any photo I have available. If you saw both of my Galleries, I have one called Starting over. It has two pics that were published in reference to Santa Fe, NM. People will comment on the Composition, Style, Etc...

As far as Blake and I, No worries! This is his site. He can say what he wants... Just Kidding, but it is his site.

Men don't do catfighting. Outside personal intervention is entirely unnecessary. ; ) Unless you can get us on Oprah or Dr. Phil? ; )

Some answers to my questions would be nice though. :/ On account of the fact that the cause of a problem certainly does matter, at least if we want to avoid suffering the same problem on a recurring basis, which is what I think the man and I are each wanting to avoid.

Thus I am trying my best to help him understand and get a handle on each of his listed "problems" and their causes, you know, so he can better enjoy his ride?

Okeedokee? : )

As to the voting, I think you are referring to the Rating and Vote feature now showing up on each post. I turned that feature on to facilitate a little series of polls I'm conducting on the Quick board. Trying to find out how well the current formatting, features, and utilities of the board are working for folks.

Unfortunately I cannot turn that feature on for just one thread. It is either on for the whole board or none of it.
