Fellas, I'm here. I'll be leaving tomorrow afternoon again though. I'd like to get a squirrelin in. My brother is here and isn't going to drop the $100 for a day of squirrelin but he's up for a woodsy looksee. I'm thinking about hitting the woods early tomorrow, not sure to look for a muzzleloaded deer or not. I've got to run the bike this afternoon a little bit, so let me know if you guys are up for a ride (short)maybe an hour or so.NUTS

So I drop by my huntin buddies house on my bike only to find he left for a ride 15 minutes before. Great, he doesn't check his phone or e-mail before riding. Oh well. Jackie call me.NUTS
Charlie, I dropped the Napoleons offf at your house. I couldn't bear the thought of you getting lucky selling the house while I was gone and not having those in your collection. Thanks for their use I'll be investing in a new set as soon as I find the proper alignment bolts. NUTS

Nut's,
Got the mirror's. You talk about Jackie not checking, who didn't check to see if anybody was home? Wife was there,I had run to CVS, wasn't gone ten minutes. Glad they worked for you. How long are you here for?
Jackie if you don't get a new tire for that bike I'm gonna start showing you gorrie(blood and gut's) pictures of motorcycle crashes.
I saw about six dead deer on the side of the road on the way home today, we could stand them up in the woods and let you practice with the muzzle loader. And if you guy's get good,I could tie a rope to one and pull it thru a corn field with the bike(very long rope)........Charlie

I've got the sta-bil in and the battery on float charge. The bugs will stay on until she gets ridden again. They keep the finish on the plastics perfect while I'm away. Sorry I was too impatient and missed you at your home Charlie; I hope to see you before you guys do the deal for real. I'm shooting for the first of the year to return full-time.
Jackie, I hope you had a good ride last night. I ran into two fellow cyclists at the CITGO by your house. We yapped for a good half hour. Swung up Mill Mtn. to see if I could run into you, no go either. So away I go and I'm wishin the best for you and yours.NUTS

Gentleman,
I hope all is well! Been busy geting ready for deer season (a big deal for me)and trying to finish up my end of the home improvements.
Jason,
Sorry I missed ya! I went down 220 to Boones Mill and then took a few obscure backroads back in. It figures the one day I decide to stay off the parkway you would be out looking for me.
I appreciate the pics. The first two are of a young Green Iguana. The third is of a Cuban Knight Anole. They have quite a nasty personality and have no reservations about biting when captured. They can't cause any lasting damage but the bite hurts pretty bad from a good sized specimen. If you get a chance shoot me some more pics.
I am having Squirrel stew tomorrow since you won't be back for a spell. Slow cooked all day long in the crockpot with carrots, taters and a wee bit of onion. Mighty tasty viddles indeed! Don't worry though the season runs through the end of January so we can get more. Of course if you keep putting off your return it will be frog gigging season. I also want to take you catfish noodling just so you can say you have tried it.
Charlie,
Snuck back in and didn't even call. Man I am disappointed! With all this fine riding weather recently we could have really worn out my front tire LOL! I am planning on getting a new one but don't want to miss out on the few riding days we have left. As soon as she is parked for Winter I will get it done. Don't worry though I am not ripping up the corners, just casual cruising. I worked in Physical Therapy for seven years so I have seen my fair share of motorcycle injuries. I specialized in wound management and since it was acute care they were typically fresh when I stepped in to debride. Worst one was a guard rail ripping off a fellas buttocks. You wouldn't believe how many rolls of Curlex it took to pack that wound! Happy ending though, he got to keep his butt minus the underlying muscle. After I became a hypochondriac I realized that health care was not my true calling and pursued reptile propagation full time. Took me several years to stop thinking every little ache or pain was a life threatening crisis LOL!!

Sounds like you have had some interesting experiences in your search for the right job, but seriously I just want to know one thing. If were off in the woods and it comes down to me or the "rattler", just who's side are you on?....Charlie

That's easy. He'd let you fall victim and round me up for additional sacrifice. lol We stopped in N.Carolina on the way home and sat in a friendly tree-stand for a coupla hours. Covered up in squirrels as usual. No license, no gun, no worries for the squirrels. My brother is looking hard into moving up our way so then we'll have another NUT on our hands. NUTS

Well Charlie,
The Timber Rattlesnake is listed as protected in Va. so thats a tough call LOL! If they were a bit more common versus isolated pockets and weren't protected believe me they would be on my menu as well.
Nuts,
You ruined my plans! I was going to take you up to the rocky ledges and show you the pretty "cave". Just because it is chock a block full of hibernated Rattlers and Copperheads is no cause for concern. Just make sure your will stipulates that I receive the rear stand LOL.

Don't worry Charlie, for a nominal fee I'll drive you to the hospital. You know the new antinenin has far fewer side effects so it shouldn't be too bad LOL! Just make sure you get the Crofab instead of the old Polyvalent. A bit of necrosis perhaps but a good story to tell the grandchildren.
As far as the bears go, they don't get real big around here so I am sure Jason can take them barehanded (or at least have a good chance of surviving the mauling). Sure can't do anything but help his looks BWAHAHAHAHA!!

Jackie,
When your down on your hands and knees in a dark cave, how big does a bear have to be? Besides how can you have a good story with a LITTLE bear? To have him come screaming out of the cave at a dead run would have to at least be a 12ft KODIAK.

You are correct Charlie. The object of the story tends to grow at each retelling of the story (at least thats what happens to me).
Jason,
12 hours later and a pot of wholesome goodness is born. Notice the golden broth, thick with tasty vegetables and chocked full of squirrel meat. A delightful medley of flavors that swirl together in the mouth to create a savory yet subtle nuance of yumminess (anybody drooling yet?). I tried a spoonful when it cooled and all I can say is MAN I AM GOOD!!! squirrely goodness

What can I say...Driving back down here was very sad for my brother and I. Neither of us wanted to leave. Yesterday he said "hey Jason want to go hunting tonight?" "nevermind, we're not in the mountains anymore." I will return with a fresh vigor for all things I enjoy. I'm waiting on the great state of Florida to clear me to practice Emergency techniques in our beloved Virginia. Soon I'll be back, just not soon enough for me.NUTS

Jackie,
Dang, that's a good looking stew. You got hot buttered biscuits to go with it? It looks so good Im digging around for my ruger and shells. I wonder how many squirrels I can bag out of my black walnut tree before the police show up? If you come by the house and the squirrels are laying on the back porch and nobody's here, they took me to jail, but I'll be back in time to eat them if you skin them and start the stew....Charlie

No buttered biscuits but a pan of good ol' cornbread made with stone ground meal. Heavy, delicious and filling are the only words that can describe these wonderful culinary delights.
Charlie,
Just have your wife call me and I'll come clean them and start cooking while she visits the bondsman. If we time it just right it will still be piping hot when you get home. Course if you want to avoid the legal hassle and the pursuit of bounty hunters you are welcome to hit the club with me. Not quite as convenient as your back yard but it makes up for it by being immersed in nature. By the way, these aren't your average backyard squirrels. These little fellas are actually quite crafty and can be a real challenge to make a good shot on {ask Nuts, he will verify this}.
Jason,
Don't sweat it man. I will find us something to hunt when you return. Like I said frog gigging is quite fun and the meat is a true delicacy. Or if you ever get a bow we can hunt snapping turtles. Lots o' meat in one of those babies!
Welp, I'm off to eat me a bowl of tasty stew for lunch.

Got the 6 pointer at around 7:30 a.m. and the big 8 pointer 30 minutes later. Went ahead and caped the big one for a mount since it was such a memorable day.

Jackie,
Good job,way to go. Did you shot them while racing down the hill after them on the ATV or just lay in wait for them to come to you? The first way sounds pretty exciting, but the second way can be pretty nerve racking also. How long can you hold that rifle to your shoulder without moving? Saying is that D*#@M deer ever going to get any closer. He will look good on your wall.....Charlie

Thanks Charlie!
I pulled the ol' ambush on em'. I set up about 50 yards from the scrape of the 6 pointer and caught him trying to come in and freshen it up, or as in the case of the 8 point, to take over the territory. As far as holding the gun mounted goes, it seemed like an hour waiting for the big guy to step from behind a large oak. Thought my arm was going to fall off! Not to worry though, one shot dropped him like somebody turned off a light switch.
What do you think of my big yeller' iron horse? It is a blast to ride but I always ride it sensibly since most of the injuries I have seen from ATVs' caused massive crush trauma and often resulted in partial or total paralasis.
Jason,
That 6 point look familiar LOL? I was going to let it walk but needed the meat since I am out. Sorta glad I did now though. The guy who went with me got your 4 point and donated the meat to me. Looks like my Venison shopping is done for the year. I should end up with the equivalent of a small cows' worth of meat. Since I don't trophy hunt I will probably now switch back to squirrel so I can replenish my recently depleted stock.
Be safe guys and enjoy that southern weather!

I like your big iron horse, I use to have 2 hondas (250 red utility 2wd & 250R race job) loved them both for different reasons. That was before they came out with 4wd,back in 87 I think( about the time you guys started school)LOL They are great for packing those deer outta the woods.

Man Charlie you have raced just about every type of wheeled machine. I don't have the nerve to pull some of the stuff that would be required to win. Now on the other hand I have no problems working with highly venomous animals. When I am dealing with venomous snakes I feel that I have control whereas with racing I feel like I am always on the edge of disaster. I guess it is all in what you feel comfortable with.
Jason,
I promise ya' man, when you get back we will find something to quench your desire for the great outdoors. Hunting, fishing, herping, sporting clays, skeet, it will all be waiting for you upon your return. If you come back around the first of Jan. we still have a months worth of squirrel season. I know it ain't deer but we'll have fun nonetheless.
Stay cool and we'll be out there before you know it.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Jason,
I am going to go shoot your bird tomorrow BWAHAHAHA!!! Seriously though I do hope to bag a turkey tomorrow but they are calling for 20-30 mph winds. When I seen that they were calling for the wind I thought you might be heading into town since you seem to bring it with you every time we go out LOL.

By the way Jason,
Email or call me before you leave. I want to see if you could possibly catch me an armadillo (preferably a small one). I've always wanted one for a pet and I hear they are all over Florida. Plus as an added benefit the Florida population has never tested positive for rabies or the virus that causes leprosy in humans.
Let me know

Jason,
How is the hunt for an armadillo coming along?
Your bird remained safe since the wind was WAILING and the calls would not carry.
I did harvest a doe to completely top off the freezer. I also saw a really nice fox squirrel with unique colors and an absolutely huge bobcat chasing three deer.
I got all the meat back and ended up with right at 200 pounds worth. Now we have got to stock up on enough squirrel to last until next season. I am going to try to take that fox squirrel if I can find it again since it would make a beautiful mount due to its coloration.
