Hi guys,
I'm pretty sure I'm going to Octoberfast, but I am definitly looking for someone to ride there with. I just need my engine to not burn up on me. It's using lots of oil and Chandler HD wants me to put another 500 miles on it before they will dig into it to find out whats wrong.

Bart if you're going, it would be cool if we could hook up to ride there.

I don't know to many other people that are going, but if you don't mind a tag-along I'm up for the ride.

OH, good timing on have our "First official club ride" on the same weekend. Oh well, I'll just have to do Mt. Lemon some other weekend.

Later, Kelly

Well not all of us can travel the US to go on group rides. If I were single with no kids I might be able to, but that's not my reality.

Arizona has plenty of tasty twisties, no need to go anyplace else.

The group rides were decided at the initial BRAG meeting to occur on the first weekend of every month. Too bad more folks didn't come to the meeting.

I'm looking forward to the 1st.

You know, you're right. There is no NEED to go anywhere else, but some of us can and do. And I would have been at the meeting but I was working. Some of us don't have to work evenings, but that's not my reality. So maybe I'll catch the next ride/meeting.

Kelly: We announced this ride weeks ago and nobody ever spoke up about other ride date conflicts. I was "thinking" about doing Oktoberfast but put it on the back burner, I/WE would rather get our current club going first. Dan and I did Mt.Lemmon on Sunday and had a great time meeting up with Brandon(Mou5e). The opportunity to ride it then was there.
There will be plenty of more opportunities to squeeze the "Lemmon"
Have fun!

Well, while your squeezing the "lemon" Kelly was riding the "Jemez"

Sandia Peak, overlooking Albuquerque, Elev 10,000'

The balloon fiesta was going on while he was out here, so we couldn't miss the opportunity to take a photo

Thanks for coming out Kelly, maybe you can convince a few other riders to come out with you next time. : )

He just picked it up, it IS a nice looking seat and it did feel pretty good sitting on it. You'd have to ask him how it feels riding, when he gets back. He just did a couple hundred miles in it so i'm sure he can give a pretty good review. : )
Good to see ya posting again, Brian!!!

Hattori_hanzo, it's the new xbs seat from Buell. This was my first ride with it, and it did GREAT. 693 miles in 2 days. My rear was just starting to get a little sore when i got back into phoenix.

Bart, thanks for showing me some great corners in NM. I'll post some of my pics as soon as I get them developed.

Brian,
there's a link to an eBay auction for an orange seat like Kelly's. St Paul HD/Buell is selling them for like $180 I saw a blue one earlier but it's sold. You may call them and find out if they still have any blue ones...

I'm looking for a good Buell mechanic in southern Arizona. I need to replace the rear isolators on my '99 Cyclone. The local HD shop in Tucson wanted to charge me $620 to do the job. I had the same job done at the same shop (under different ownership) in 2000, for $270. I would be willing to ride up to Phoenix to get it done, if there is a reputable Buell shop up there.

I would greatly appreciate your recommendations of shops/mechanics you are happy with!

If you become an MSF instructor, does that mean that you won't need the crash test dummy anymore?

Bart & Kelly... Thanks for the help moving my stuff to the storage unit. It really helped me out. It was especially cool of Bart to come to the house following my departure to drain the gas from the bike. Obviously, the wife couldn't do that. Thanks, again!

Once I get all settled, I'll invite you guys out to ride here. I just have to figure out where all the good roads are first!!

Hey everybody,
Hope all those who made it to the OCT 1ST ride had a good time.
I'm sending this to inform you of a PRE-RIDE this weekend on Sunday.
We will be meeting at the Chevron on Carefree Highway and the I-17 east of the freeway at 6:30-7 am.
The ride will consist of the following towns/cities in this order Wickenburg, Yarnell, Wilhoit, Prescott, Jerome, Cottonwood, Camp Verde to Payson where we will then head South back down to the valley.
I know it sounds long but these are all small towns or cities and the loop is easily identified on a map. Check it out.
This ride will be in preparation for our monthly ride coming up on NOV 5TH.
Those who are not familiar with this route, it is a great run filled with scenic landscapes and a healthy dose of twisties.
Any questions feel free to reply with this.
Hope to see you there
J

Bart,

Nah, part of being an instructor is sharing your experiences (good and bad)... So I can talk to the youngsters about how a lowside is better any day over a near highside/looping a bike. Embarrassing story not included... I'll keep the dummy for now.

I Hope all is well in New Mex. I plan on adding a Uly to the stable. When I do (prolly next year), I'll have to take a jaunt out your way to visit/ride.

J,

I'm going to be instructing on base (that's who facillitated/financed the course), and because of it, freelance at VSI Yuma for some spare dough on the side. VSI = Vehicle Safety Institute. From what I hear, the $ is good for the time invested, but I believe your heart should be in it too. Can't always be about the dollar, but it helps when that's there too!!!

Ghost,

If I remember one of your posts, you relocated to Santa Monica. There are some good roads close. Get with BBstacker and Sandblast. They're the closest guys I know of to ya...

Take care all, Slow, Look, Press, Roll!!! LOL!

Alright here are the details for our Nov 5th ride, but first thanks Carey and Kelly I had a great time yesterday

Meet up at carefree hwy and I-17 at 6:30 in the chevron parking lot. Everybody eat a good breakfast we wont be stopping until Strawberry or Pine for grub. We will then proceed to Prescott I really dont see a point in stopping in Wickenburg for gas when all we traveled is 40-50 miles, I have been discussing with some of the other members and we have come to a solution for the lengthy ride times, and its pretty straight forward stop less ride more, Which means at gas stops we do just that get gas and ride on. When we get to our destination there will be plenty of time for chit-chat.
Enough of that next we will head to Jerome via Mingus mtn then motor through Cottonwood to the I-17/260 interchange where we all can fuel up and stretch our legs for a while.

The final leg of the ride will be a tasty section of long blind sweepers and nice scenery as we head down the 260 to Strawberry/Pine where we will pick a spot large enough to accommodate all of our steeds and get a bite to eat.
From there its up to the individual what route they will take, my recommendation would be east to Payson then South via 87 to east Mesa/ Scottsdale, its a nice ride with plenty of sweepers.
The ride in its entirety was 360 miles from my door step back to my door step.

I would also recommend dressing for winter type riding as it will get pretty chilly in some spots, not un-rideable by no means but a little nippy.

Flyers will be e-mailed to the addresses I have, so if I dont have it send me a PM with it.
Hope to see a lot of familiar faces and some new ones.

On a final note the ride length comment is to accommodate everybody so that we are not out until 5pm and we can get back to our normal lives at home. The ride pace will be no different just reducing the amount and times of stops.

All riders are welcome to attend our monthly ride this month's ride will
be a nice twisty adventure through some of our northern neighbors Prescott, Jerome, Strawberry/Pine, finishing off in Payson.

Trip length will vary depending on your current location 350-400 miles

Dress for cold weather riding as it will be a bit nippy in the higher elevations.

Meet up: I-17 & Carefree Hwy 6:30am. At this point we all fill up on fuel.

Departure: Kickstands up at 7:00am
*Everybody should eat a good breakfast before we depart we will not be stopping for chow until we arrive at Strawberry/Pine*

Stop 1: Prescott for a fuel stop and leg strecth.

Stop 2: Camp Verde for a fuel stop and leg strecth.

Stop 3: Strawberry or Pine depending on the establishments ability to accomadate a good sized group of hungry riders.

End: Payson will be our final stop for fuel and the ride officially ends here.
There wont be any structure as far as group goes from here as some of us like to ride "BRISKLY" back down to the valley.

*I and others would like to get some group photos somewhere along the 267 it is very scenic country.

*We are not posting times on this ride for the simple fact that things happen and it is useless to try. See the last ride for how well that worked. LOL!!!

*Questions or comments here are guys to talk to.

I know huh... I think this thread has been abandoned for the new Brag thread.

Death of the old, birth of the new...

P.S. I'm going PTAD to Phoenix 13-18 November. I'm going on recruiting duty and by going to Phoenix and meeting CO/SgtMaj I've got a better chance of getting stationed here. PTAD means the Marine Corps ain't paying for it though.

Anyone got a floor I can borrow for 5 nights???

Not everyone that rides Buells in Arizona are members of the AZ thunder group.
This thread should be kept alive for those riders that wish to communicate with each other without wasting bandwidth on the BRAG thread...

j,i don't think bart was bitching-just stating that this tread should be kept alive since this this was the only tread for the az riders to communicate with each other before the brag tread.you should'nt take what bart said the wrong way.bart is a stand up guy and is fun to ride with and is always concerned about the saftey of others when he rides with you.to bad you really did'nt get to know bart.
