Well Brankin,

Did you find it?

If White Oak River Road is what you actually mean, then yes. I went down to the end of Snake Road (as known by the Kinstonians - Pole Pocosin Road to the people that made the sign) and turned right as directed followed that until it ended (well, when dirt started) turned around, looked for a road on the left - saw none. Saw a road to the right a little more than a hundred feet or so from the dirt would be more likely to point me in the direction of Maysville, but didn't take it since it was named Collins Road. I instead went all the way into Maysville (as normal) and decided I would head South on 17 and try and find where 'New River Road' comes out. BTW, the silos are on this side of the White Oak River and White Oak River Road comes out further South (i.e. that side of the river). I decided White Oak River Road was close enough to this elusive 'New River Road' and decided to go down it. Some longer than expected straights, some banked 35 mph curves (that I was doing about 80-85 through - kinda risky being by myself, but what the hey), followed it until it turned into dirt and turned around and came back. After getting home and checking my map (DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer) I see that Collins Road connects the road after Pole Pocosin Road (it has no name on the map) and White Oak River Road.

Boy, am I GLAD that you showed me the shortcut to Cincinnati on my way to Homecoming last year, otherwise I don't think I would have ever found it based on verbal directions alone!

Spike,
How were things at Ray Price today? How'd you do? Any pics to share with the class, er... I mean us? I would have liked to have gone but I guess, once again, I will have to live vicariously.

Has anyone ever read the magazine Road Runner? I picked up the latest issue at Books A Million today as one of it's 'Incredible Tours' is New Bern, NC.
Road Runner
I was expecting this article as the guy who gave me the Absinth is a close friend of the owner of the New Berne House mentioned in the article, and he told me of the people from the magazine staying at the New Berne House. In the article somehow they managed to find curves - one picture is take on Bike Route 3 (Pole Pocosin Road is just part of Bike Route 3 - but looks to be the most entertaining part, I might ad), and another shot shows a curve in Beaufort County. I guess the whole article can be summarized best by the following excerpt:
'The riding around New Bern and Craven County is very relaxing and perfectly suited to cruising machinies and vintage rides. The quality pavement, easy curves, and relatively flat terrain make for a great location to wile away a lazy weekend.' Oh yeah, they also show a pic of the dockside deck at the Bean in Oriental (where the following pics of Carlos's Uly were taken):
Sitting at the dock of the bay (tide, what tide?)
Sitting at the dock of the bay 2

Whoops!

I forgot to tell you I originally got the name wrong. I looked it up on Map Quest too to see if I could make it to Jacksonville on the dirt road and realized I had the wrong name.

that won't be the last time you do that on a Blast, trembling little beasts they are.

My suspicion is that this problem was not caused by vibration but rather by a mechanic who wasn't as careful as you and 1313.

Jim,
I seem to remember that checking the torque for the muffler bracket fasteners was a regular part of the development/durability testing. But that was over 6 years ago...

You'd be surprised what the torque pulses of the single can do. In fact I think you may be familiar with one big impact the BLAST! has in regards to rear tire life. Other than the fact that the BLAST! tires were the cheapest (er... I mean most economical) tires that could be sourced the torque pulses of the single contribute significantly to rear tire wear. In fact, based on what I've seen, I'm amazed that the tires are still round at the end of their treadlife.

It's good to see that you got the gumption to become one with your bike by fixing the issues with your BLAST!s exhaust. Buell's (particularly the older one's) are simple machines and are easy to work on. Hell, if I can keep one running for over 105,000 miles (so far...) it can't be all that difficult. When I was younger, things would always go wrong on cars for me, but my Buell has taken everything I have thrown at it and asked for more. I'm not saying the S2 has been my most problem-free scoot, but I ain't complaining (except for the tranny).

I seem to remember that checking the torque for the muffler bracket fasteners was a regular part of the development/durability testing.

My guess is that the muffler was loosened to drain the transmission fluid for the 5k service. When reinstalled, the lip of the gromet was sheared off, preventing the muffler from rigidly attaching to the mount. The vibration from this caused the bolt on the flange to back off.

Thats my theory anyway. But this combined with the 2 other problems I've had since the 5k service have left me a little disillusioned with that service.

A little reading between the lines will be needed in this post, so if you don't understand it don't fret too much.

My plans to make Daytona this year are looking iffy...

All hope is not lost though...

Eastern NC Buell brothers be warned:
Speed 1
Speed 2
Be careful out there!

This was forwarded to me at work from the head of Development. I thought for a second after reading the subject that he had a problem with my style of riding to work, well at least on the last road at least. I like to call it my own private drag strip. I've never measured the distance, but on the V-Rod I can get up to 110 (have to shift it into 4th) before I have to slow it down to safely make the turn into the parking lot. On the Buell it usually seems that there is always some putz ahead of me turning into the parking lot of the building on the corner that fumbles my attempt.

Yes, they went on easy. It took Dave and I about 30 minutes to install the bags. I bought all three, but I only installed the side bags for now. They are so big, i can not imagine needing more space for around here.

Anybody feel like riding this weekend, I have a pile of wood that needs to burned and have people standing around it. Maybe Brankin can bring his cool burnin liquid. I am sure I have a few bottles of something lying around, and plenty of room to stay the night if you need! Twig from Greensboro will probably be down also. Plus a little flat spot worn on the tire after my recent trip makes me want to hit some curves!
Carlos- thanks again for the hwy 52 advice. That first section was steeeep! With a few sweet switchbacks, real fun.

Rebecca had a busy weekend, so she took today off. I didn't have a busy weekend, but I took it off as well. She asked me last night "What do you want to do tomorrow." That was easy, "Test ride a Uly."

So we went to the dealer this morning and Larry set us up with a test ride. He suggested a nice route to ride, about 15 miles, and sent Rebecca and I off.

WHAT A SWEET BIKE!!

I want one. I'm going to buy one. I just don't know when I'll have the cash.

Jim N., They are addicting. It's a Buell in every sense and more. Now that I have the hard bags on the bike, I really can use it every day.

Jim R., Man, one more week of Soccer and I will have a Saturday free. I really want to get down there, but it will have to wait at least one more week.

All. There is a Toys-For-Tots run at New River HD/Buell on Sunday that Kristi and I are thinking about going to.

They are addicting.

It was fun Carlos. I had Rebecca on the back and she loved it too. Twice when I was in 1st and rolled on the throttle, I think the front came off the ground. I'm not sure cause you can't really see the wheel while riding. I wasn't hitting the throttle that hard either. I think you told me that they wheelie easily with a passenger on the back.

LOL - So when we get back and are talking to Larry (the salesman) she is telling him that it wheelies easily. And I'm looking for a discreete way to kick her.

Jim R.-
Sorry I won't be able to make it this weekend. Sure wish I could because it sounds like it will be a kick time. I will save my magical burnin liquid for another special occasion such as this in the future, though. Unfortunately my rear cylinder base gasket on the S2 has decided it no longer wanted to contain the oil in my crankcase. Until I am able to fix it, it will be on limited duty. Once I get a new front tire on the V-Rod I should be able to spend some quality time working on the S2. It's a good thing that I started cleaning up the garage last weekend - which needs to be continued this weekend in order to be ready for the upcoming mechanical tasks...

Jim N.-
(From another thread) Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. The girlfriend of my best friend (back home) was diagnosed a little over a year ago. Actually it was last Christmas that I found out and she had thinned down considerably by then already. But, on the positive side, it is a condition that one can live with. It sure as hell beats the alternative.

I got my latest issue of Fuell a day or so ago. It usually seems to take mail a little longer to get here than other parts of the country, so nothing new there. In it I noticed that one of the BRAG events for 2006 is 'AMA at Road Atlanta'. Seems like a better possibility of making the picture below have a certain S2 parked in front of it than the trip Carlos and I made down to TWO this past April to meet up with some fellow Buell ridin' compadres.
Skulls rule
Even though my pal Jack's killer old M2/S1/XB looks sweet out front I still want a pic of my S2 with that awesome background!

So much stuff I want to do...

I went over to the fairgrounds this morning to see if I could find rubberdown. I don't know much about horses, but thats the only place I knew of which might have a horse show. Sure enough, there was a show. I found a place to put the Blast and went walking around in search of Mike. I didn't find Mike (cause his isnt going to be there till tomorrow ), but I did discover something interesting. Horse shows are full of girls in knee high leather boots. And they have spurs!

I think I might go looking for Mike again tomorrow.
