1313,

I've found nothing. I'm hoping you can do better. I don't know when the winter dealer meeting is either.

Rubberdown,

If they're building an enduro I certainly don't know about it. The XT225 question was unrelated to Buell stuff. I've been thinking of getting a dual-sport and the XT225 is one of the ones on the list.

Spike,

Drats! About all I've found out is that the WDM is in January.

Dave, Brankin, & Carlos,

Thanks for all the help with the bike yesterday. It's running a lot better now that the carb isn't about to fall off.

I figured out what the problem was when I was trying to leave last night. You can not give that bike any throttle until it has warmed up. If you do, it will stall. The bike wasn't warmed up enough and I only had the coke half on. Thats why I couldn't climb the hill. As soon as I pulled it all the way on, no more problems.

It was a "brisk" ride back home last night. I kept my left hand on one of the cylinders for part of the way. Kept me defrosted.

Jim,

Glad you made it home safe. My M2 is the same way when its cold. I stop for gas last night after leaving you at the highway and then rolled to the house. I still do not have the liner put in my over pants and I usually wear thermal underwear when I ride in freezing temp, but I was fine for the ride except the thermal bandana I was wearing was too tight after the gas stop and I had to stop again to get is straighten out. I would suggest to anyone to get brush guards on their bikes. It is amazing how much warmer my hands were since the Uly's brush guard deflect the air around my hands.

I hope next time you can bring Monica!

Jim,

I'm glad the M2 is running better. It was very good having all the parts we needed. I think after some use and maybe even some rambunctious riding at higher RPM's the M2 will be a world better than it ever has been for you. All should be good now, but if there is anything else that it doesn't seem to be doing right please let me know (via E-mail). I am not happy until all is right. It's good to see that you discovered the 'secret hand-warming spot' that all tube framed Buell's have. I usually put my left hand between the cylinders on my S2 during cold weather, but didn't need to last night.

Freezing temps? It was only 39° when I got home last night. The shot of coffee before I left sure helped, it wasn't until I was less than 10 miles from home that the cold started bothering me - since I was out of the area of the largest threat of deer I turned it up to 70-80 and was home in no time. For some reason law enforcement doesn't understand that actually going a little faster to get out of the cold sooner actually helps to reduce the effect of the cold temps. Fortunately (and thankfully) last night I did not need to try and convince any.

I was really hoping not to grab the spark plug wire as I was reaching down there.

Thanks for that offer. The bike's running noticbly better than it was.

You all inspired me yesterday. So today I decidied to see if I could figure out why my Blast is making a rattling noise. Discovered that one of the nuts holding the header on had backed out and the mounting bracket for the exhaust is way too loose. I ordered the parts today. Shouldn't be too hard for me to fix when they get here.

Back from the mountains. Unbelievably terrific ride. All back roads. The most twistie, knarley roads you could ever want. Even did about 10 miles of dirt around the back side of Beech Mountain. 9R makes a dandy dirt roads machine. 570 hard miles without a hiccup. Ran the crap outta it and it just asks for more. At one point my buddy Pete says, "some of this is just plain crazy". I agree we were a little over the top. We kept saying , were gonna calm it down now and never did. I'm exhausted but at least we made it home safe and without tickets....amazing.

Halloween 2005 - the night of the living Absinth (well, it has a shadow...):
Step 1:
Absinth 1
Step 2:
Absinth 2
Note: Fire doesn't show up too well in light with a flash...
Step 3 (necessary when step 2 doesn't work too well):
Absinth 3

Will I ever be the same?

Or more importantly...

Have I ever been any different?

Hope all of your Halloween's are delightfully spooky!

I'm outta here for the night,

Mike,

A colleague from Germany left the remainder of a bottle we opened at his going away party when he went back to Germany. I am going to try and bring back a bottle the next time I go to Germany, but it seems like that day will never come. I can't stand the taste of anise or black licorice, but with the method my colleague showed me (sugar, flames and water) most of the anise taste is gone. The first one I mixed was pretty strong and boy it packed a whallop. The second glass I had last night was a bit more mellow, but that is some powerful stuff!

I still have about a 1/4 of the bottle left...

Yeup, It's good to be the leader.

As far as for Halloween, there is nothing as good as trick or treating with a gaggle of kids.

Well, that is until you get home and raid their candy!

We did our traditional party at a friend's house where the gang gets all the kids together and go trick or treating. I think the count was 13 kids and 11 adults. It's always a good time and the kids get us some candy.

At the end of the night I though I should leave in style. I had to go to my friends straight from work so I was on the Uly. Keeping my speed down I rolled down the street slowly in first gear, gave it about half throttle and like clock work, pulled a small wheelie and never broke the speed limit. The thing just won't keep the front tire down.

Hey Brankin, what do you do on All Saints Day?

Alright fellow Buelligans...

After surfing badweb with an Absinth induced hysteria I've come up with some ideas of upcoming events for us to get together and partake in things Buell.

Last year Dave and I went up to Washington DC for the IMS show. I see that this year Bueller's can get a free shirt at the IMS shows. A free shirt always get's my attention (as does free beer and free pizza and, well just about anything free...). We had a fun adventure and this would even be more cost effective if we could get a larger group together, maybe even have a couple of cars caravanning up there. My only question is which comes first - the Winter Dealer Meeting or the Washington DC IMS show.

Also last year Spike, M2nc and I went to Daytona in hopes of seeing the XB's in the Formula Extreme race. After we had made plans we found out there wouldn't be any in the 200, but we still decided to go and had a great time kicking around Daytona Beach. It's too early to tell what exactly will go down at Daytona this year, but I'm putting my money that this will be the place to be for Buell enthusiasts this year.

So without further ado, who is up for either of these Adventures?

Me! I will have to see what is going on as the time nears, but for now count me in for both.

Now an event about every other month will work for me, but when is March Madness and are they having it again next year? That may be fun too!

I'm always up for an adventure. First I have to get well as I ended up sick as the proverbial dog after last weekend.... still been riding to work though. I'm planning on the badness last weekend in March. I like to have some folks over to my place in Southern Pines so we can party and ride all weekend in the Uwharries; incredible riding, so close by. Riding the R on the slab could be a bit of a pain.....unless we're running 90.

I would like to retake the picture for Fuell. I have on big orange reason but i thought we might be able to get some of those that did not make it last time like Dave and Brandy. What do you think? If Mike is available on November the 6th, how about making it for that day?

Is this still 'the plan'? Mext meeting?

If nothing else, I think there should be a strategic meeting to determine which events to do this year:
- DC IMS show (yes for me)
- Daytona (yes for me)
- March Badness III (hopefully yes for me)
- Homecoming (yes for me)
- TBD
- TBD
- TBD
- TBD
- TBD
- TBD
- Pete's place un-event (Still a possibility?)
- Visit to U4euh and Rubberdown (Need to figure out when)
and on and on... An internet portal would most likely be very advantageous in planning, plus recommendations from all parties would be needed. Hmmm...Sounds like pizza (and maybe even beer) could be involved...Dave - I think I figured out what having a treasury would be good for...

I guess we don't have to do it right now, but we should take advantage of the cool winter months to figure out what to do during the nice warm months so that we can enjoy them RIDING
...

Suddenly I am coming up missing 2 cents,

I was hoping we could get together this weekend for a ride. That will be our "Meeting". Who is interested?

Kristi and I may go out riding Saturday during the afternoon and get dinner before returning, but this will not be a major ride. I was thinking we could get together for a ride Sunday. Any ideas?

As far as the picture, I don't know. I put it out to see if we had any interest and no one responded until now. I know Jim U4euh will be out of town and he was at the original picture and Gramps, was still in one piece for that picture too. The problem is Jim Nance was in the first attempt before Mike and Larry showed up, so Jim is not in that picture. Also Dave and Brandy were out of town and I now have the Uly. So I thought it would be nice to have another picture. The thing is we do not have to do it now.

Hey, I would love to go for a ride as the weather looks to be beautiful. But Alas, my wife and son are in Bethesda, MD. And my little girl and I are playing at home alone. So only the 4 wheeled cage through Sat. And My Son's belated B-Day party on Sunday when they get back. But its going to be a gorgeous weekend so youd be fools to not be riding. Ray Price is having his customer appreciation rally this weekend( a new ULY could win the Buell Category). Larry

I'm motorcycle refereeing a bicycle race in Fayetteville this weekend on the 9R. .7 mile 6 turn course closed to traffic. I'll probably run 250 to 300 laps and get to have a little fun too.

Saturday is the big shindig at Ray Price that's earned me most of the trophies in my garage. I plan on heading up there sometime Saturday morning to put my bike in the show. The downside is that the bike will have to stay there for judging and they don't hand out the awards till later in the afternoon, so that'll probably take up the bulk of the day. I'm going to try to sneak in some seat time on one of the demos while I'm there. On Sunday I'll be tied up the entire day.

I'd still like to squeeze in a ride to Michael's in one of these upcoming weeks. Warmer is more pleasant, colder means we have a better chance of getting a table. Colder also means we score brownie points with the BMW crowd.

Thats the old muffler mounting hardware. Those gromets are supposed to be identical. Now they are :-) And the muffler isn't trying to shake itself off the bike anymore :-)

Congrats Jim, but that won't be the last time you do that on a Blast, trembling little beasts they are.

As you can see, the 'puter is back up and running, courtesy of a power unit that we pirated out of a computer that Carlos had chucked in the trash. The cpu looks like Frankensteins monster, or a Rube Goldberg device(the power unit doesn't quite "fit" in the cpu's case), but it works.
