Cj, dont really know what type of bike you are looking for. Sportbike, Cruiser, Touring, Dirt, etc?

If its a Cruiser..ala a harley style bike you really cant go wrong with either a Honda shadow 750 or one of the Yamaha V-stars. The yammy's come in 650cc models & you cannot tell them apart from the 1100 models. They also have 2 different styles with different shaped fenders & handlebars. I highly recommend the V-star lineup, no I dont work for any dealer or anything, its just they are time proven & very reliable. Also have more than enough power to get you around & they also have enough mass without being too bike to manuever in a parking lot.

I know a lot of folks would say go with sporty, but I really cant agree with that. The vibrations are extreme on them & a lot of folks dont like that. Also even tho the sporty is called a girls bike & is marketed as having a low seat, they actually have the highest seat height of all the Harley models. Even the Hugger is higher than a softail or Dyna.

Nobody would say "no you cant ride with us because you bought a Yamaha" either. And if they did then they arent worth having as riding companions.

Dyna, I've had several people tell me NOT to go with a Sporty (and also that they are the best), and I have considered some of the others but do have a concern about who to ride with. I don't really want to get out of the Buell/Harley family, as my sister and husband are HOG members, so yeah I want to ride along. I have also talked to several that would agree with the Honda and Yamahas and the low maintenance and ease of handling for a gal. Trading up in the Buell family though isn't going to work, because the big ones are way too much bike for me to handle, and I do like the uprights. So thanks for the info, I'll have a look at the bikes you've suggested. Until then, I'll keep riding my blast, and LOVING every minute of it !!

no problem on the oil temp gauge, sir . . . . all ya gotta do is figure out where you want to mount it!

Officer? OFFICER? I made buck sargeant 3 times, and you wanna call me an officer? sheeeeesh

CJ . . .absolutely agree w/Dyna about the choice of riding companions . . . my only concern about BRAG is the single-brandedness of it (I understand the concept, but too many of my riding buddies have changed bikes for me to be comfy with the exclusionary policy) . . . .

I would tell you to ride circuit on the dealerships convinient to you, but, alas, most dealers don't believe in demo rides . . . . . .

also, Dyna is right again (sigh . . .. ) . . hard to go wrong with a Yamaha . . .rode, and raced them for years . . . .they are NOT trouble-free (no bike is), but extremely dependable and well engineered . . . . .

I just gotta find something to disagree with Dyna about . . . . .

Cj, heres a litle secret for ya. Once you join up with either Brag or Hog, they never ask the Vin # of your bike again. You can sell the bike & continue to just pay your yearly renewal fees & nobody ever questions it. We have a couple folks in our HOG chapter who havent had a Harley for a number of years now.

I agree Bomber that Brag outta be expanded beyond Buell. There are a limited number of Buell owners out there, its not like in the Harley kingdom where you have an infinate pool of owners to fish from. They could make it like the Moose clubs, where you either need a bike or know somebody in order to join. I know of a number of guys with various makes of sportbikes who would like to just ride with group of folks, but they too are either excluded, or if I tell them to just come for the ride anyways they feel awkward. You know its that old "I dont have a Harley & dont need any of that Jap riding bullshit mentality".

I know Brag & Harley would never go for the concept either. It would be great to include all bikes tho. I will ride just about any bike made & right now there are a lot of fantastic machines being produced. If & when I can unload the X1, I really want either a Triump Daytona 955I or the Yamaha FZ1. If nobody wants to ride with me thats just fine, but I know Bomber & Roger & quite a few others who wont care what any of us ride.

It's not what you ride,
It's that you ride.

Concept for a new club:
Bike-Anon.
Requirements:
Cover bike name on tank or fairing during all group meetings and rides if possible.

End.

hell, I don't care IF you ride, so long as you buy beer from time to time . . . . ..

there's a group called NITRO (Northern Illinois Touring Riders Organization, or sumpin like that) . . . . they seem to draw the same type of crowd (riding, not posing), and are non-brand specific . . . . could be room for another group like that here?

I agree that a group of HOGGers will give you an attitude check if you're not HD-mounted . . . Buell riders are different (if not quite in every sense) . . . . .

the fact of the matter is that both HOG and BRAG exist to increase sales for the mother company and their dealership . . . this is not a bad thing, at all, but it is a bit exclusionary . . . again, not bad, just targeted

I noticed that Suburban HD (in Theinville, not Palatine, IL) host what they call a "Sportbike Night" . . .. I beleive that DaveS in waterloo does the same . . . . . with Uke's broadening their horizon into Austria . . . .hmmmmm . . . .I'd advise letting em get the new building up before we hit em with an idea like that, though . . . . .Eva looked like she had a case of 1000 meter stare like I havn't seen since Da Nang . . . I'm sure they're all bustin caps over there

Suburban does? I didn't know that. Hal's has tried a few "sportbike nights" with relative unsuccess. Rode past Don&Roys Honda/... shop a few months ago and they must have had a thousand people there after hours. I guess it sort of depends on how well they get the word out, and what the focus of the gathering is, as to how well attended things are. If it gets too crowded I just leave and go for a ride instead.

I saw the flier during the BTrax . . . . I have no idea how many folks showed up . . . .I agree . . .best kinda riding is one of two folks you know well, so you can anticipate their reactions . . . .small to medium group riding (5 - 12) is fun to . . . let's you expand the population for the best kind, yes? too crowded always draws squids, which draw the constabulary, which has me hoping the statute of limitations has run out

As far as the Hog attitude goes, it sux. If I go on group rides with my Dyna, all is well. If I show up on the Buell they give me that "what the hell did you bring that abortion for" attitude. It may have a Harley based drivetrain & sold in Harley dealerships, but they sure as hell are not being accepted by Harley folks.

We have 1 women in our chapter whos Harley was having some custom work done to it. We had a ride & she wanted to attend so she rode her Husbands BMW. Oh my God you woulda thought she had committed murder from the way everyone was acting & talking about her. Buncha ridiculous clown posers.

There are cruise nights everywhere (in the summer). We've attended several. If you desire the company of non-Buell riders, there are plenty o' opportunities. However, if you want to hang with Buellers, BRAG is the only game in town. I see no problem with that.

Since when is being exclusionary a bad thing?
