Anon -- nope . . .still a member of Windy City . . .due to the location of my new gig, it's really difficult for me to make the meetings . . . . .Uke's is 20 minutes from work (if I stop ofr a beer), so those folks will be, er, blessed, burdened (your choice) with my attendance a bit more often . . . I figure we can get the two chapters together for some joint ops (could be fun if we're not careful) . . . . Windy City's done some things that will benefit Uke's chapter, I'm sure, and I'll be sharing those . . . I'm equally sure that the Uke's folks have some ideas that will benefit W.C. as well . . . .

Oh well, anonymous is one more person posting to this site, so the few of us aren't dominating the entire correspondence !!

CJM

P.S. I rode my Buell to work today through Milwaukee for the first time (blue jean day !)
I'm glad I got to ride it so my co-workers could check out my bike, but it was too much stop and go and rough roads to be really fun, not like the back roads !

CJM,
I ride to work most every day, but I have the luxury of riding ALL backroads to work. I suspect I'd drive the Subaru WAY more often if I had to do the "city" thing.

Anyway...GOOD FOR YOU!! My wife rides a Blast, but never rode it to work (mostly for the same reasons as you - dress and city traffic).

Backroads rule! They should build more cities around them...er...ah...no, wait...

I made fridays this year "Motorcycle Fridays"

Mainly in part because most weeks I can shed the suit and tie on Fri.

It is all commuter traffic, but like I said in the upcoming newsletter, More miles = more road skills.

Heavy traffic on a bike (no A/c or Radio) can suck pretty bad. My X1 cannot handle it in 90+ temps.

My Favorite part about riding to work is this:

I walk into the bank with an armored jacket, gloves, and helmet. The most intelligent thing people can think of to say is....

"DID JYA RIDE YOUR MOTORCYCLE TODAY JOE ?"

I say "NO, WHY?"
And keep walking to my office. :)

SUBMISSION:
For the big book of what can and cannot be done.

-An X1 lightning will plow through rows of beanfields given a moderate amount of momentum.
-Exiting the field onto wet grass WILL cause a loss of traction.
-Making it up a wet grassy (now muddy) hill with the aforementioned X1 is a difficult, messy process.
-Honda makes off road bikes with knobby tires for a good reason.

The above was the result of a bunch of my friends and I hanging out at a farm over the past weekend. Then the talk turned to "I betchya can't"

I got to admit, I was a bit curious my self.

(personal note: I am not a lunatic, I just save the screwing around for 'off-street' moments, and sometimes it builds up. On public roads I'm fairly well behaved.)

I've found the armor and helmet useful in some meetings, as well, Joe

another answer you may wish NOT to use, given the political correctness factor in the banking industry, is,

nope . . . . chicks did me in leather

You got it right about Banking my friend.

That comment would be on a compliant form in Human Resources within the hour.

This place is such a bad match for me. Not that I like spewing potentially harassing comments all day. I just like to be around people who are a bit more relaxed. (read "not tightassed" )

smile . . .I know exactly what ya mean . . .. . long ago and far away, I worked for AT&T Bell LAbs . . . once told a female colleague she looked nice that day, and damn near got written up!

it's a little looser where I am now, but not alot . . . . ah well . . .at some point, the whole world will be one big bran muffin -- tasteless, odorless, of no nutritional value . . . . luckily, you and I won't see that day

BREAKFAST ANYONE?

Us FIB's have quite the motorcycle hangout in our backyard waaaaaaaaay down here.

Sunday mornings, motorcyclist of all shapes and sizes converge on a family restaurant in Highland Park at the intersection of rt41 and 22.

The Highland House will see over a hundred bikes every Sunday morning.

Anyhoo. I try to go every Sunday for an ommlette, some bike talk, then off to the other job.

Let me know If you'll be around, I'll save you a spot at the table. Or if you're not interested in eating, let me know anyways and I'll keep an eye out for ya. It's always good to start off a day with friendly faces and motorcycles :)

(I get there by 8:30 before the line becomes too long)

Accounting (my field) in my experience has always consisted of an air of uptightness, no different here. Everyone watches what they say and are so proper, God forbid I should occasionally be sexually harrassed and actually enjoy my day !! ha ha

Like driving nice and easy on the road most of the time causes buildup of "hooligan-ism" and makes me pretend my Buell is a tractor...

Being so politically correct all week long tends to cause raucous behavior on the weekends.

Nearly all of my squidly behavior occurs while I'm alone, off of public roads. You'll probably never see me doing anything beyond a mild burnout every now and again.

Next summer, I'll start getting track time too. I figure the more time I spend on a track, the better behaved I'll be on the road. These tickets are killing me.

Hey Joe,

The Highland House down in Illinois on Rt41 is where we usually go on Sundays to hook up with the rest of our riding group ! We usually get there around 10:00 or 10:30, and we don't eat breakfast just check out bikes, hook up, ride, and stop for lunch.

But your right, there are a lot of bikes, every kind imaginable down there, I would have guessed over 100, especially around 10:00. It's fun to hang out, look at bikes, and talk to the other bikers. It's the place to be on Sundays !!

now you have a good idea of what the beginning and end of the Slimey Crud run is like . . . . GREAT tire kicking!

the middle is riding some great Morraine roads . . . .

If you've never been, I'd advise it . . . . the attention paid by the constabulary has increased an order of magnitude the last few years (unscientific countint methods yield the following = geez, thius crowds HUGE compared to last year's, the year's before that . . . . you get the picture)

Seriously, maybe 200 folks 5 years ago on a coldish October morning . . . .this Spring, er, LOTS more!

Just found a small rock poking through the top of my belt. New belt = 180 bones. I hope this installation isn't too tricky. Anybody done it / seen it done on an x1. Are standard tools going to work for me? I'll need a wrench for the rear axle aren't I?

Joe . . .the great news is that you've got an X1 . . . otherwise, you'd have to drop the swingarm . . . . . .

yep, you'll need the read axle wrench . . .that's the other good news . . . guess who has one (hint, you pass his house regularly)

If the hole is small just leave it alone. Pull the rock out & go. I believe Harley even has a spec for the size hole it can be. If its near the edge then you are screwed, but if its in the middle & real small, dont worry about it.

PS..I love doing burnouts & wheelies, cops who give tickets out are nothing more than revenue officers. I dont like being politically correct. I think people outta mind their own damn business & quit worrying about others. Too many upity snobs in banks, they tend to think their shit is icecream. Hell yes I am blue color & proud of it. If it wasnt for the factory workers in this country, nobody else would have jobs or any products to buy.

Senseless rambling, pay no attention.
