We couldn't have asked for a nicer day or better route! I personally felt pretty comfortable until we hit those turns with the gravel up in Paint Bank. Thats when I decided to join the Roanoke Valley Slow and Loose section of the group LOL.
Where did you all head to after you hit 43? The rest of us stayed together to 81 then gradually split up to head home.
It was great hooking up with fellow riders and can't wait until next month!

Jackie, we took 43 up to the Parkway and just cruised right into 460. You could have stayed on and gone right in to Garden City or Vinton. Get that seat and splash out for a pair of the bicycling shorts with the chamois padding. I've got a pair hidden beneath my jeans every time I ride more than 50 miles. I'll be out of town until Thursday 23 September. Maybe I'll bring you back some native reptiles.NUTS
I wanted to ask you more about hunting season too. well next time. Fast & Loose Jason

Nuts,
I thought you did a good job as the lead dog. A little more to think about up there than when your just laying back in the pack.Any how good job.
Glad to hear your going for the real DRUMMER.There's no substitute for the real thing.
I hadn't been on that part of 43 since they repaved it,that was nice and it's even better running it the other direction.
I'm sorry the bulk of the pack didn't join us, their ride down 220 had to be boring and didn't save them that much time.RT.43 takes them straight to the lake.
I was impressed with how well the group stayed together(we had a wide range of experience in this group)On one end the gal with the yellow firebolt(only had her lic.about 2 or 3wks.) and then Brad on the honda behaved himself(for those that don't know, Brad has alot of talent)I would love to see him get a racing lic& a ride. Later guys.........Charlie

Well I had no idea. Someone should point him in the direction of the nearest Firebolt then. Gonna order the TFI as well as Loud Drummer and have got to get a new front muffler clamp along with the front axle sliders. I actually saw a guy made some out of skateboard wheels and threaded rod stock. Off to the land of no elevation and no curves~South Florida. Good week everyone. NUTS

Nuts,
Squirrel season just opened so if you want to hook up and get us a mess of fuzzy tree rats for a good stew let me know. Bow season opens the beginning of Oct.. In the meantime we can go shoot skeet or trap up at the club if your itchin' to do some shooting.
Also while were up there we can check out the local Rattler dens and other reptile haunts (photos only, no killing).
Charlie,
I would have followed but didn't have a clue where ya'll were heading and I didn't have another few hours left in me. I think the padded drawers are definately in order! Do you think the deluxe seat makes a big difference?

Jackie, went to play a little frisbee golf down here in the tropics and saw a 5 foot iguana just running around. A couple of these lizards (we call em Jesus lizards) because they run across the top of the water. One of them was about 2 feet long. I'll call you as soon as I get back into town next week. I've got a real itchin for some venison backstrap. NUTS

That would be a Basilisk. There are several subspecies but the one most commonly seen is the Green (aka Plumed) variety.
Supposedly there is an outstanding population of Burmese Pythons somewhere in the Glades (or at least that is the rumor going around the herp world). Your a lucky dude as Florida is a reptile lovers paradise! Personally I would try to find an Eastern Diamondback, Indigo Snake and Gopher Tortoise. These are high on my life list for photos.
We can definately get some hunting going on when you get back. I love me some backstrap as well but will probably end up not having any until general firearms season (mid November). In the meantime Squirrel will fit the bill (tastes just like chicken LOL!).

Jackie, I've got my digital camera and will do what I can to get you some pictures. I know where several gopher tortoises reside. Snakes we'll check into as well. I've seen all of those in the wild and can say the indigo is the most impressive. Will you be rifle hunting? I was planning on using my 12 slugger. Not for the squirrels though. Jason

I'll definately be rifle hunting as well as bow.
The 12 gauge will work fine since most ethical shots here are less than 100 yards. I myself will be using the trusty Thompson Encore chambered in 30/06.
I have an extra pump here you can use for the squirrels if you want to give it a whirl. A 22 LR is much better if you have one but if not no biggie.
I'd love to see some pics so if you do find time I would greatly appreciate it.

I never rode mine with the stock seat(some things just look bad right-off),But with the acc. seat I can ride for hours.I was tired when I got home, but not from the seat.
Might check you guys out on the squirrel hunting, haven't had my Ruger MkII comp.pistol out in a long time.........Charlie

Charlie,
You would be more than welcome to come along. I do enjoy a good squirrel stew so the three of us should be able to bag enough for a nice big pot.
Add some taters, onions and carrots and we are on the way to some mighty good fixins'!
Now if one of you two knows how to make a good corn bread we may find our way to complete culinary ecstasy LOL.
I tried to win two different seats on Ebay but was outbid both times. At the moment low funds are preventing me from ordering a new one from Zach.
You guys missed a fine ride this evening. I took Windy Gap to 122. Went by the lake and rode 24 to the Parkway and finally home again. Not very technical riding but pleasureable nonetheless.
I am slowly getting a bit bolder hitting the curves on Windy Gap and my "chicken stripe" is getting narrower on my back tire.
You two have a great week!
Jackie

Nuts,
Glad you had a safe trip home.
While waiting on your TFI why don't we cruise up to Fast Freddys' on Saturday night? Lots of classic muscle cars and the Buell gets plenty o' stares when rumbling into the parking lot.
Did you get me any good pics of the local Fauna?

I took Windy Gap/122/24 again tonight. Its a pleasant 50 mile ride that we could work in before the drive in if you are up for it.

Jackie, got a few picks of some red rat snakes and a box turtle, but the good stuff was well hidden. A ride sounds good I'm gonna try to put my helmet on without ripping my stitches out. Bitten by my brothers catahoula leopard hound in the face. OUCH. let me get this DRUMMER installed this morning and see who else we can round up for a ride. NUTS

Let me know if you want to hook up and check out the classic car drive in. I will be heading out around 6:00p.m.. If you want to go riding beforehand I should be able to break away a few hours earlier in the afternoon.

Jason,
I am still waiting for the guy to pick up one of my ATVs' that I sold. He was supposed to be here by 3:00 but was delayed. Hopefully I will make it up there before you leave!
Either the PM didn't come through or I am too computer illiterate to figure out how to retrieve it. You can email me directly at John3-16@cox.net

Charlie,
Man you missed a good one today. The weather was perfect for riding. Jason and I hooked up and rode Windy Gap to 122. Followed that to 43 and then ended up over in Eagle Rock.
I have to say 43 is an awesome road however we did run into one part that was nothing but gravel. The bikes started walking all over the place when we hit that. Luckily it only lasted for about 1/4 mile. Felt like I was holding Jason back a bit but he did a fine job of not leaving me behind.
Looks like we are going to have our first Squirrel hunting fiasco on Wed. so if you sneak back into town let me know so you can break out the Ruger.

Jason,
I definately need to get inside the group since it seems there is more going on than I know about. A friend and I are going bow hunting Fiday and Saturday so I won't be able to make it. I wish I would have knew before he called since I would rather go to the races instead of looking at a bunch of deer just outside of shooting range. Unfortunately he already made the arrangements so I can't bail on him now.
I think we might hit the Nat'l Forest Wed. morning since the club is hosting a high school shoot this week. We will hit the place that has both Gray and Fox Squirrels so maybe we can get a good mixed bag and mark us a spot for rifle season as well.
Give me a shout tomorrow evening so we can firm up a time and meeting place.

Jason,
Sorry I missed your call. My daughter has graciously given me the flu and other than going to her soccer game yesterday I have been laid up sleeping most of the time. Started feeling kinda "clammy" Monday night then woke up Tuesday feeling like I was hit by a train.
Hopefully I'll be able to shake it in the next few days so we can get out in the woods.
Talk to you soon

Jason~ I doubt the local Buell dealer is willing to pimp out their only ULY but they have a used 9s and a new DEMO 12s for sale. Waiting til spring may not net you a deal as good as buying when sales are slow. We've got a group ride scheduled for the 23 Oct, down to the lake for a cookout. Keep in contact I can meet you pretty much any day for a ride. NUTS

Starting to feel a little better. Man what a few days it has been. Good thing it only comes around one or two times a year. Do you think your up to hitting the woods on Saturday afternoon or would you rather avoid me so as to not get sick?
Don't worry I won't cough or sneeze your way (at least not on purpose LOL!)
I am going to place my order with Al on Tuesday for the nice round foot pegs, billet dipstick, and the undertail with LEDS and integrated turn signals. Also going to order the Scorpio alarm with perimeter sensor. I'm tired of spending 4 hours cleaning and ending up with fingerprints everytime I let the bike out of my sight in public. I love me a clean fingerprint free finish!!
