Jim, sorry man, I was working on the M2 with Dave and I did not get the message until late. I am going to stay in because the 40,000 mile service on the M2 became an adventure. I could not find the Vance & Hines Jet Kit I bought for the M2 after installing the Force Winder. It decided to play hide-and-seek and it won! So Dave and I rode to Shelton's yesterday and took a look at the Uly they got in and get parts.

It's not too tall!

I was surprised but even with the standard seat, I could tip toe on both sides and flat foot with my left foot and have my right foot on the rear brake. I can live with it and man is it comfortable. I even slid back to the passenger seat and with my fat tail, I could see the seam on the seat the separates the orange and black fabric. A great bike and now I want one, maybe that one. I have another deal in the works that I need to do first though so my hopes of taking it home now will have to wait, but sooner or later I will have one.

As for riding today, I am going to stay in. The M2 took so long to get everything done that I need to get stuff around here done.

Dave, took the long way home last night and the M2 did great, maybe the 50 pilot jet will be enough, no pings, no coughs, let's hope.

Hello to all! Went for a hellascious ride today with Mike. Just kinda pointed in the wind and let the ponies run. I can say that Mike looks like he feels ALOT more comfortable on the 9R than the 12S! And the road attacks were awesome. The only problem I found was the desire to stand up during a hard corner braking. But that was done on purpose just to see how they responded. Will try to shrink some picture's we took.
M2-the only problem with you all not coming down today means we found more roads to ride on! Damn I love this area. But I am glad you got the bike right. Won't be long before I have to break mine down to repaint and check torque values.

I saw it, I saw it, I saw it! I sat on it, I fondled, er... removed it's seat to see how much trouble there would be in raising the trunk in order to swap Ss suspension on it. In all it's magnificent buttercup, er... butterscotch glory:
Uly at Shelton's
Lot's to raise in addition to the bottom of the trunk in order to install Ss suspension:
Uly trunk
I sat on it (only to find about a 3-4 inch deviation on the left side between the bottom of my foot and terra firma, and about a 6 inch deviation on the right, kinda like José...):
1313 on a Uly
It's in the details...
Buell in the Uly taillight
One interesting thing I noticed on the '06 Buell's (this is on the Ss at Shelton's as well as the Uly):
'06 Header 'flange'
Never had a problem keeping mine flat, but the inner ring on the other hand...
Now everyone may think I'm weird after these next pictures, but am I the only one who notices a resemblance of the Uly flyscreen/windshield to Crow T. Robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000?
Crow T. Robot:
Crow T. Robot related to Uly?
Crow T. Robot close up:
Crow T. Robot close up
Uly:
Uly front end
Come on now, I can't be the only one...

Jim, Sorry I was unable to make it. After 'wasting' the whole rest of the weekend I wanted to attempt to get some things accomplished today. And, yes, I failed on any accomplishments other than finally getting to see a Ulysses 'in the flesh'. One of these days we will hook up and experience the roads down by you.

Oldog, Since the Ray Price Buell Meet n Greet will likely throw off my 'plans' for going to the Fall Rally in Myrtle Beach next weekend I am up for a ride. Any ideas for where to go? Not a suggestion (as I like to mix it up a little), but just some info, Dave and Carlos found out that part of Old Maple Hill Road is closed. Are you thinking more towards Wilmington or ??? I'm open.

Tyler, Welcome! Since all of my experience is with tube framed Buell's (other than riding some development XB9R's) I won't cloud the water.

No Brankin, just you. Why didn't you call? I'd gone with you, even though I'd just been there the day before. You should have been there to see Carlos, he's in love. I haven't seen that look in his eyes since he used to take his car on dates in high school LOL!

Carlos, I won't be satisfied until we see how it runs in the heat. It does sound better though, the tear in the intake boot was probably causing a vacuum leak.

T_t, welcome! IT sounds as though there's a a clutch adjustment problem. If it continues, might want to have someone else take a look at it and try adjusting it. It's an adjustment that the FSM (factory service manual) says needs to be checked every 2500 miles.

Now for some misc ramblings: I too think the XB12X isn't too tall. It's no taller than a BMW GS or a Triumph Tiger, which BTW is a really tall bike. The cool thing about the '12X is the attention to detail, it's just a well thought out, well sorted bike. It deserves all the accolades it's getting. I also think that Buell will expand on that platform to produce a true sport tourer, the parts bin is just too ripe, so the cost to produce it would be small.

Brankin, do you really think that the under-tray would need to be changed, It looked like there'd be enough room that the fender would not hit in a lowered situation. You have to remember that the 12X's suspension is sprung softer and has a lot more travel than that of the other XB models. I think it would work just by changing the forks and shock. If you leave the styling alone, I.E. don't try to put an R fairing on it, suspension is all it would take. I'd probably change the front fender to a conventional one, but leave the rest as it is. BAM! sport tourer. The only other changes are going to be getting the controls moved back up. The only issue I see with that is the passenger pegs, I didn't see provisions on the tail section to hang the bracket, so would have to come up with custom bracketry if a passenger is going along. But we know people if you know what I mean.

Ride next weekend!? Where to? When? Let's get something going on this. I'd like to get some of the folks together who don't get to get together, er, together. Anyone, ideas?

Brankin:
toooo funny on MST3k you don't know how many times I had that funny nagging feeling where have I seen some thing like that ???

I am not familar with the roads North and east of here, let me just throw this out.

one or 2 day trip?

Sat AM
meet up in new bern on 17 (exact location to be determined)
17 N to washington NC
264 East to whalebone nc
either back track to 64 west to williamston
or south on 12 from whalebone, to morehead city
then 70 back to new bern

I can't find any info to determine if there are ferry conections on 12 at between Ocracoke island and cedar island

points of interest near whale bone:
10 miles N
Wright Bros monument.
south along 12
cape hatteras light house ( the one that has been moved?)

there is one mildly interesting road near wilmington, definately not worth the ride south for, unless your destination is further south, then you go to southport by ferry, over to 17
and south to MB

just some thoughts check your map and throw some thing out, there are no buellers here that I know, so any where is good the seasons about gone and I want to go some where!

Oldog,

I've haven't been to the Wright Bros monument since I've moved down here, and would like to make it there someday. The run down the outer banks sounds intriguing as well. But I may have had the brainfart of the millennium shortly after I posted my Ulysses post. At this point this is just an idea, as it hinges on another C-3 badwebber's availability. A lot of us have been promising (or was it threatening...) U4euh (Jim Rainey) that we will make it down to neck of the woods to enjoy some of the fine riding that is available there. For those of us going to Ray Price for their Buell Meet n Greet on Friday night it appears that Mr. Jim Rainey is only about 80 miles outside of Raleigh (closer than the 120 or so miles coming back to New Bern)...Just an idea at this point...until U4euh responds regarding his availability this weekend and the options available for overnight accomodations, etc.

Hello Jim B.

Jim R. great pics. I'm glad to see Mike back on a Buell. Did I see somewhere you and Mike were going to Lavale?

I would love to catch up with you guys this weekend but I am out for any long rides. It's soccer season so I could not get out until the afternoon. Also, since we are going to Lavale next week, I have to get stuff done around here. Kristi and I may get away Saturday for a few hours, but that's all I can spare this weekend. If you all hook up, have fun.

Gotcha Brankin, "Cranial Flatulence" happens here from time to time, you mentioned the meet and greet earlier so I wondered if you or the group had other plans in the works, The event friday PM is a little too far too late in the day for me,( unless its a jump off for saturday activities ) A sat / sun ride in the twisties would be great, If you guys have "space" for another ( assuming that a saturday ride is in the works ) Jim R's. Pix are interesting to say the least looks like some nice riding terrain

Truth is all weekend rides take time to plan this was spurr of the moment.. The good thing about being single is that my plans are somewhat flexible, either way let me know!

Dave,

I left my replacement phone in the saddlebag of the V-Rod (rode it today because I needed to pick up beer after work - seems I haven't done any wrenching to earn beer lately ). I got your message about a half hour after your call. I am going to Raleigh, leaving work at 3:30, headed towards Raleigh, of course, after meeting up with you. I won't be able to access the web at lunch due to new policies at work, so I will give you a call tomorrow to set up our meeting point and time.

As for the plans for the rest of the weekend, I do not know what is going on. Oldog is out, Carlos is out, I will have to make up for lost time for the last 2 weekends (damn maid took off the last time I was in Germany and I never saw her after that so I guess I will have to finally do the dishes myself) but I should be able to focus and get back on track and still have one day to ride this weekend. I guess Oldog was right, this was really kind of the last minute (but that seems to be my style). Who's in and where are we going?

U4euh...Is that Morrow Mtn. in the background? Sure looks like it. Still pissed at myself for not being able to ride with you and Mike. The twelve hour days wear me down. Rubberdown, looks like you found a gem. Hope to see it real soon. Jim, how do the Conti's rate compaired to your previous tires as far as handling goes? I want/need a new set. Shopping around for anything other than Dunlop. Later...Mike S

Twig-no not Marrow Mtn. Just one of the many hills around here. Marrow is much bigger.
As far as the Conti's go, I would buy another set based on performance. The main reason for trying these was to test mileage vs performance. So the mileage has yet to be established. But if you are considering these, I recommend them for cornering, after this ride I only had about 1/8 inch wide chicken strip on both sides of the tire!

Looks like I've lost a customer for my 'personal ride along Buell technician' position...

Sorry it has taken so long to get this information, but I have finally gotten the word on when some visitors from near the home of Buell will be heading to Deal's Gap. They will be heading towards the gap on October 10th and will be headed back North on Ocotber 14th. Since I do not have anymore vacation time this year (the main reason I am not going to the BRAG adventure in MD this week) I will not be able to make it to the Gap during their stay. If anyone is interested in meeting up with some Buellers
at Deal's Gap let me know and I will get you in contact with them.
