Josh,
Please use "automotive" detergent when you wash my bike. The regular stuff takes the wax off.:)
Thanks,
John

This Sam? If you are talkin to me all I have to say is this..."You know it wouldn't be fair to the bikes if we didn't let go of the reigns every now and then" count me in. Frank is damn near insisting that we make the trek on two wheels, which in reality I don't have much of a problem with, however this brings a huge dilema to the door of my garage.....which one to bring? the full custom X1 with the solo tail for riding fast with "old" people or the state of the art pilot sported XB for straightening the Tail? I thought I read where someone wanted to see if the "B" could hang with the big dogs? I think it will scare them back onto the porch! respectfully puttin the smack down

Uh John...Me thinks Sam wants to RACE!...Tell you what Sam, you pick either one of your bikes and I'll pick either one of mine and we'll even let you pick the starting point in KC and I'll pick the finishing point...

On to other things...Sam, I hope you bring the XB...Do you have bags for it?...The other way to handle baggage whould be for you to ship stuff down there and then let Keith and Heather carry it back and ship it back to you when they can...They're the only ones in our group that I know are definitely driving...If my wife decides to drive down (slim chance), she can carry for you...

Shirley and I are looking forward to having you two most excellent house guests on the 11th...

See Ya!

I haven't posted about the gap yet because I am still working out some details. Heather has to make sure she can get off work. I may be making this one solo if she can not. If she is unable I am considering riding down myself. I'll let you guys know as soon as I find out myself. I personally am a bit torn. Go riding with the boys or ride part time and play tour guide part time. :)

Sam,
When riding with the big dogs, a trailer is not an option. Bikes are to be ridden there and back. Anything less and you will be viewed as a sniveling, whimpering, scared, little girl puppy dog.:)
Speed.....
You heard the story about the old buell and the young bull? Its goes like this:
An old bull and a young bull were standing on top of a hill looking down into a valley of prime heifers. The young bull says "lets run down there and get us one!" The old bull says," No, lets walk down there and get'm all."
The relavence of this story to the Gap and that area is played out every day there. You will see wrecked bikes while there and injured riders. The question is wether getting back home intact is more important than fulfilling the desire to go balls out when riding the roads there. If the latter is chosen then I would suggest taking a trailer to haul the pieces back in. There are many, many miles of GREAT roads to ride there. Try to be around to ride them ALL.
My race days are behind me. I have many trophies from my race days when I was younger. I also was fortunate enough to stay alive and come away with just broken bones. Some friends of mine did not. One of the hardest things I ever had to give up, was racing. I loved it. But all worked its way out. Im still here to try to ride ALL the roads. Most dont know my other nickname. Its not V2win. Thats for this board.
It's "Der Hund".

I'm really looking forward to this ride.

That would not be the intended use of the trailer. I think you will all find that I ride with a youthful exuberance, yet responsibly. I have been on two wheels for 18 years now, I have been off two wheels a few times during those years. I really enjoy wringing out the machines, I am also wise enough to know that the bikes capabilities far exceed my own and my capabilities are not for exploring on strange roads a thousand miles out. I promise you will remember your own experiences not mine.

John,
Bring our bike over and I'll wash it.
I've been suspecting for a while that we wouldn't be going what with Bonneville the following weekend and all.

Sam...Another thought regarding your luggage...John and I probably will have extra room on our S3T mules...If you need to you could ship some stuff to me and we'll pack it in and out for you...

Keith...I don't guite know how to say this so I'll just be blunt...From a moto viewpoint, if Heather can't go, I know you'll have a better experience because you're going to be immersed in scoots and riding and BS and Maker's Mark and 'Shine and BEER!...Also, you can fart inside the room...

All...I don't think SPEED at the Gap is going to be a problem...At least if you want to keep your license...If you want to ride The Dragon "shit hot" you'd better plan on either riding down before the weekend or staying over...Now I hear that they have LOWERED the deeps timil on the BRP to 35!...Soooo, like John was saying above, they're a bunch of great roads to ride that are not so subject to LEO's...Wish we had our very own LEO along as an excort...But I think Jenn's fallin' off the edge of the world...

See Ya!

Bob,
Don't feel like you are being blunt! I have really, really, considered that option!!! We have 3 options at this point and are waiting to hear what her schedule is before making a decision. 1st one is I make the trip alone and get to do just what you stated before!! Second option is dropping her off in Paducah to stay with her friend for the weekend on the way down and get to do the gap alone. Third is ride about 120 miles a day and be more of a tourist than a rider. I am silently praying that we end up with option 1 or 2. :)

Bob,
I think in order to avoid the sniveling, whimpering, scared little girl puppy dog.... moniker, I will create the tower of babylon on the rear pillion. Thanks for the offer. I think we all know it is impossible to keep up with racerboy....RACE??? are you kidding? I was racing last time...remember that right hander? I was hanging off the bike 5th gear, redline, pullin at least 2g's, dragging elbow, pushing the rear tire, right behind you, I know you remember because in the middle of that corner I look up and you were adjusting your rearview mirror. anyone else seen anything like it?

ROAD TRIP...Just found out that Shirley will be busy this weekend with Robyn's wedding plans so I'm free...Head for the mountains!...Probably leave Friday afternoon/evening returning no later than 10 p.m. Monday...Will probably camp just to keep it simple and low cost and have more diverse places to stay...So I'm thinking West Virginia/Virginia VA 16, dropping down into North Carolina around Grandfather Mt on to Mt Mitchell and Little Switzerland...May stop and see my ex-brother-in-law in Newland NC...Call me 314.821.0776, day, 636.938.3788, evening...

Sam, you flatterer, you...The kinda "race" John and I were thinking about starts in KC with you on the XB9R and ends in Tucson or points west...Of course, the "other" bike in my garrage is a R1100RT with a 6.6 gal tank and a 4.8 gal fuel cell that gives the scoot a range of about 450 miles...Hey!...Who said anything about keeping the playing field level?...

Glad you're going to ride with us...It will be a hella'va good time...Check the Quick Board thread for Deal's Gap Deja Vu Sept 13 - 15 2002 and call both places to make your dinner reservations...

See Ya!

Sam,
Glad your riding down. Its so much more fun that way.:)
By the way, I got a ticket a while back for doing a 69 in a 45 just on the edge of Pacific. When the cop caught up to me, he ask," what do you think your doing?" Its simple I said, " Im licking her till she screams." Ok, ok I'll go back to my corner.
