Carparts did fine keeping up with him, he is good for his age and I liked his yellow mohawk !!

Fiery, you going to crud run ?? Rickyracer, you know I'll do the crud run, well unless it's cool and/or the wind blows, or the sun shines too brightly, or mist in the morning !!

Good Lord 8:00 am ??? I better have coffee before getting to Hal's, or I'll "really" be a crab !!

You guys are kidding right, I have to have a cup of coffee as soon as I get out of bed, BEFORE I get out of my jammies or talk to anyone !!

A crab wearing jammies riding a Buell, not a pretty sight !!

Everyone,
I've got a big problem. Yesterday I picked up my bike from Racine H-D. I had my new tires put on and I had them replace the neck bearings. I rode straight from RHD to my house and then parked it.

This morning I rode the bike to work and while in the Marq. interchange my neck stem comes loose! I hit the front brakes and the entire front fork assembly pivoted under the bike by at least a half an inch. I limped the bike into work (3 miles or so) but I'm going to have it towed from here.

This is the third time something has been wrong with my bike when I got it back from service at Racine and I don't know if I want it sent back to them for repair. This one almost killed me as I almost dumped the bike infront of a delivery van in the marquette.

I'm calling Jamie as soon as the dealership is open and I want some answers.

Yikes!!! Glad to hear you're okay, Impulse! I'd call for sure and bitch, but I'd be hesitant about taking it back there. I'd send them the tow bill...

The tow is going to be on BRAG, and I while I want Racine to fix their mistakes I would prefer to have Hal's do the work because I can't trust the techs at Racine any more.

Holy Crap! That could have been *REALLY* bad. I wonder what they did wrong to make it fall apart like that?

Keep us informed...

My guess is that the put the head pin in without seating the neck bearings. But that is based on about :30 seconds of investigation. The was still on the pin when I pulled into the median of the high rise. I have not looked at it since, because were a little busy today at the station.

I just talked to Jamie and they are sending a truck for the bike. I told him that this was strike three and that I was less than confident in their service department but he does want to make it right. I'm going to give him that chance, but I'm going to have it checked out by someone after it is fixed.

Rocket, weather looking fine for the track!
I've raced in the rain once with race dot's,
never owned or used a set of rain tires.
Like coolice said, it teaches you to be smooth.
It was a very good experience. I do however prefer sunshine! : )

I'm going to get out of here in a couple hrs hopefully if my phone quits ringing!!
How do the know I want to cut out early???
Phones been quite all week then this morn, 5 calls already.

Oh well, back to work!

The bike has been picked up. When we were looking at it prior to loading you could see the bearings sticking out of the top of the neck with at least a 1/4" of space between the bottom of the bearing and the top of the neck.

Racine picked up the bike and it was fixed by the time I got to the dealership after work. (5:30ish)

I talked to Jamie, Jeff and Paul and explained what happened this time and the past two times I've had my bike serviced. They all took the time to listen carefully and apologized for what happened.

The official expaination is that the two pinch bolts on the lower fork tree were not tightened properly and the fork started to slide up. When it did the bearings unseated and the whole head got a couple of inches of play in any direction the bike happened to be leaning. Had I not been in stop and go traffic this could have been much worse since it was a sudden, but not panic, stop that pushed it free. Thank God for traffic jams...

As for the dealership everything is settled and the bike is 100%. After it was repaired Paul (service manager) checked it and I believe test rode it as well. It was handled correctly and I'm satisfied with the actions that they have taken to make sure that it never happens again.

As for me I'm off this weekend and I don't have a computer at home since mine completely fried this week (it's really been a bad week, ticket, computer, bike, and sick baby..) If anyone has any questions or wants to ride on sunday you'll have to call me because I won't even be able to check my e-mail.

Later,
JT

I know it's kind of short notice but I'm having a Sportbike day at the dealership Oct 8th,10-3:00
I had about a day to put this together. You can help me pull it off by coming!
So far I have planned,
Sportbike bike show
Helmet toss contest, men's and women's, see who can throw my old helmet the farthest.
Burn out pit available for those so inclined, it's almost winter here in Wisconsin so might as well burn that tire!
Specials on bikes,t-shirts,hooded sweatshirts,parts
Buell demo rides!
Food of some sort, not sure yet.
Band? Working on it.

More details to come.
Who can come?
Anyone want to help me?

I managed a 2nd,a 3rd in the rain, 8th in the rain, and last : ( in the final race, way to much water for me with race dot's on the bike.
All in all, a great weekend considering the weather, which royally SUCKED!

Drag strip this weekend, time trials start at 1:00, racing at 5!
Come on out and play!

This weekend was a blast!

I’m going to start with the important stuff first - a big thanks to everybody for all the fun that was had. Thanks to Rocco and Karri for the use of the easy-ups (both to sit under and sleep under), Tom and Kelli for use of the grill and advice throughout the weekend, Mike for the letting Will and all the kids get out of the weather, Nancy for mechanical guidance and Paul for the take-offs (I can’t wait to try them out). Also, on the riding/racing side of things, a big thanks to Tom and Paul for being more than happy to answer any questions tossed their way.

Next up, congrats to both Tom and Paul! There was plenty of plaquage happening this weekend including Tom’s best finish to date! No small feat considering the weather throughout the weekend.

Rocco and I did manage to get our certificates (and a $150 T-shirt) amid the carnage-o-plenty. We were running side by side at the start and both had a front row seat to watching a Kawi bouncing its way down to turn 1. If there had to be a guy to down in that mess, it was him. He flat ran into a couple of guys at the start, forced another guy off track and caused several others to pucker more than a bit. We ran a few laps after making our way through that mess (both wondering why some people didn’t understand the concept that their whole job for six laps was to simply not fall down), played nicely when the ambulance was on the track and finished under a red flag to get our certificates. Tom was telling me that they always finish that “race” with a red flag, but this one was out for a reason – a ZRX (anyone need any more reason not to ride a Kawi? ; )) high sided coming out of the bus stop. Unfortunately, I had a front row seat for that one too. I saw the bike get sideways, snap over tossing the rider and then spinning as it chased down its rider to add the insult of getting run over by his own bike. Normally, the first thing you can think to do when someone goes down is stop to help but you absolutely cannot do that on the track so after making sure not to hit him, I continued on almost feeling a bit guilty about passing by a fallen rider. (Word is he's okay although probably not feeling so hot today).

Anyway, noone in our group went down (although we all at some point managed to slide around a lot), some got certificates, others got plaques, and we all had fun. So again, thanks to everyone for a great weekend and I can’t wait for next year!
