Roc is ok...

A rider in the Pro Dragster class was killed yesterday afternoon after hitting the wall as he was making his pass in the left lane.

That is terrible news about the drag races.

Races this weekend were great - Cody took home a 1st and 3rd, his Ozbike had mechanical issues with a pipe that came off and we were not able to get it welded back for him to race in the Mod50 class - he went out and gave it a shot, but the bike wouldn't hold up. Mike raced in the novice and the senior class. He took home a 1st place in the novice class - made it look so easy too - and a 3rd place in the senior class. I didn't fair as well as I would have liked to, I qualified 3rd in the heat and then took a 4th place finish in the main. Seems Melissa has really figured it out and made some huge improvements this weekend. She was railing out there and I just couldn't make it happen. I needed to carry more corner speed and well - just didn't do it.

A couple weekend highlights:

Cody coming in after qualifying 3rd in the mod 50 heat and saying, "2 wide in the chicane - that was awesome!"

Cameron riding his little pocketbike with training wheels welded to the frame (thank you to Chris for the training wheels and Bob for the weld job) - bike had a tie down tied to the back holding him back, Cameron goes by Julio and holds up his left hand and one little finger and says, "I'm #1" gasses the bike turns the wheels and tumbles off - he got his first crash out of the way and also learned not to talk smack - it was hilarious only because he was not hurt - he got back up and on the bike and was off again. He is truly going to be hell on wheels.

Mike railing on my bike - showing me that it can be done!

And my favorite of all - little Cameron sat around all weekend, helping push bikes to and from the pits, cheering along the fence line, wrenching - ok getting into Mikes tools - etc. At the award ceremony Pops called him up and gave him a medallion for all those things and for being such a good boy while wanting so bad to be out there, but only able to watch. Cameron jumped up when they called his name, shook his hand and Pops kind of ushered him back to his seat, Cameron veered around him and went and jumped up on the box into the #2 position and stood there waiting to have his picture taken - oh so sweet!

We missed Bob, Debbie and Steve - it just wasn't the same.

See you all soon.

Kim, you're right, Mike did look awesome out there. It was fun to watch both Cody and Cam cheering him on. I enjoyed Saturday's qualifying as I found somebody as slow as me to fight for last place with. Then I lost the bike off the rear stand and when I picked up the bike, I pulled my back. It wasn't so bad out in the sunshine doing corner work Sunday, but Lord Have Mercy! I could not get out of bed this morning, even with Mary pushing and pulling. Eventually got going and to work, but the bike and my tools are still in the truck til I can heal up. In fact, I'm gonna do the unmanly act of seeing the Doctor this afternoon cuz I don't wanna miss Border Raid! Forgive me.
Brandon, if there is anything we can do to help your family let us know. Testing for bone marrow, anything like that.

US Gang!

Those leaving for the Great White North on Friday AM. What time do you expect to get to the border? Harv, myself and perhaps a couple more are setting out for a great ride to Penticton. It would be awesome to ride up together.

How about it?

Always

The Doc said I was doing everything wrong. He says use ice, not heat. I was using heat fulltime. Lie down, do not sit, stand or walk. I was mostly sitting. Gave me muscle relaxers, said take 4 Advil every 4 hours. Today I can hardly move. Gonna call him for some heavy duty pain killers. Not looking good for heading north on Friday. He said the other really bad thing was riding, car or motorcycle for any distance. Damn Quack.
I am writing from home. Been flat on my back on ice for 20 hours. Still hoping...

Shotgun, sorry to here of your back mate. I know it hurts like nothing else. I see this type of injury at least weekly in my job as a safety manager. There are basics to lifting stuff that we should all be fairly familiar with. The real downside is that every back strain or sprain weakons your back that little bit more. A downward spiral if you like. We`all love this biking thing, and it has its hazards, and handling heavy things being just one.
In training at work I will always say "this type of injury can effect not only your worklife, but also your leasure activities what ever they may be. I am sure that one day you will want to cradle your grandchildren in your arms. Theres no chance of that if your back is stuffed, you are permantly on pain killers, and can't remember the last good nights sleep. Think before lifting anything, and don't be afraid to ask for help"

I am sorry if this sounds like I am teaching to suck eggs, but that shotgun fella is a mate, as you all are here. And I hate seeing or hearing of anyone injured, specialy if its easily preventable.

*falls off short soap box*

MadGaz

PS, go Cody

I used to like a hot bath with lots of epson salts. A margarita or 2 for a change of pain killer, and lots of time to read lol.
Like you I am out of service today with a nasty liddle bug, and catching up on lots of reading and surfing.

Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone got home OK. There was one incident on Green Mountain Road this morning where Dave and his wife had a spill on the sand on the outside of a downhill left hand turn. Some scrapes and bruises but they were OK otherwise. The bike was ridable once a gas leak was plugged (with gum).
From now on no one is allowed to say how nobody went down before every one gets home safely. Jinx!
I'm not going to say that we are a superstitious bunch but did you ever notice that we seem to have the same ritual before we ride? It seems that there is a period of drinking and laughing then various amounts of not enough sleep. This is normally followed by the ceremonial advil swallowing, followed by more laughing and carrying on then the inevitable law abiding ride.

There were some highlights, including my own brain fart that turned out better than it should have but I won't soon forget the amazing speed wobble (Galen, thanks for the proper term ) that we witnessed on Sunday night.
Can't wait to see everyone again.

Galen and Rattles (Betty's new nicname) got home safe and happy around 6-ish. Found an incredible swimming hole on Bluit Pass in a little creek; a series of pools about 14' in diameter and 4' to 6' deep, seperated by the gentle babbleing of runnung water...a true Idyll.
Got stoppeed once more on the return, but when he saw I allready had a ticket from friday said, "one ticket per weekend is enough" and sent me on my way.
Sorry to the ones who missed it, and the ones who made it know why, BordeRaid was amazing. More to follow, so
sooner, Galen
