I'm there.

And I have an extra spot in my trailer (fully enclosed) for anyone who needs a lift.

Blake,
Tell me more about the track school. Who's offering it? Your post makes it sound like it is neccesary before you can do track days at OHR.

Paul, it is necessary. But the cost is only $75. I think I spent $125 for my last track day.

Take a look at this site for more info:
http://www.cmraracing.com/

But here's the gist of it:

1. You must attend/pass this school to obtain your CMRA racing license ($100).

2. After you pass the class and pay the cash, you may practice at any open track day and race any event for which your bike qualifies. It's $15 to get in the gate at OHR. I'm not certain about the cost of the race entry fee.

3. Your bike must adhere to more strict requirements to race than the ones applicable for simple practice days.

4. You must wear full race gear (duh)

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff, but that's the low-down.

OHR sounds awesome, hope I can make it.

Dago - Not me, I still have the yellow trim around both wheels. Also I'm still on the stock exhaust.

I'll probably try to ride with you guys this Sunday. Still 1pm at 604 W. Bethany, Allen, TX 75013? Or you wanna meet somewhere first and then go there?

If all you want to do is gain the ability to ride at OHR you don't even need a full license, just a CMRA associate membership which ran $50/yr last I checked.

The track school is not a fun kinda track day deal. It is to educate and test prospective racers on flags and track etiquette and stuff like that. You might get two on-track sessions. For something like $65 you can get two 20 minute practice sessions on Sunday, but that will require a fully teched bike. You can take the track school with your street bike, just remove or tape over the breakables, remove mirrors, remove (sometimes they may allow you to tie-wrap) the kickstand.

You'll need some kind of riding suit.

You drop your bike while on track (handlebar touches ground), you fail the school.

Before you can race, you need to corner-work at least once or have a stand-in work a corner for you.

Once you pass the track school, you can either just obtain an associate membership which will allow you to ride practice days (track days) at OHR, or you can opt to go for the full CMRA racing license. For the full license you'll need to acrue two days of corner-working, one of which can be completed for you by a designated stand-in (yoru wife, GF, friend, sucker, anyone willing to work a corner for free and donate it to your credit). And to obtain a full license, you'll need to complete two separate races on two separate race weekends without crashing. You can race as many races as you like each weekend (Sprins on Sundays), but you'll keep the "Provisional Novice" yellow shirt designation until you race without crashing on two separate weekends.

Piece of cake! : )

My conversation with Nancy Selleck, the initial contact point for the CMRA.

ME: "Since I won’t be racing this year, would an Associate Membership suffice?"

HER: "You can apply for an Associate Membership, but that is not a license and will not allow you to get on the track. So, I'm not really sure what you mean about an Associate Membership sufficing. Sufficing for what? "

ME: "'Sufficing for what?'...I guess nothing. So why do you have it? I was under the impression that I had to have some type of membership in order to do the school. But I guess not. I won’t be doing any races this year anyway even if I pass"

HER: "We have an Associate Membership for folks who don't want to race, but who want to help support the club. Their $50 membership allows them all of the privileges of membership except a racing license: subscription to the CMRA newsletter, subscription to Roadracing World magazine, message board posting access, voting rights for the Board of Directors, etc.

You do not have to have any sort of membership to take the riders school. After taking the scholl, you don't even have to ever apply for a license if you don't want to.

The weekend schedule for Oak Hill should be posted later this week on our website. The Rider's school fee is $75. Chris will be able to answer your questions regarding school curriculum, schedule, etc."

ME: "There seems to be some discrepancies in the information I’m getting from a few people relative to what you say an Associate Memberships provides. You say an individual can’t race with one. But are there any other times an Associate Member can get on the track?"

I'll post her reply when I get it. It's been lovely conversing with her up so far...

HER FINAL REPLY: "I'm not sure who you've been talking to about Associate Memberships, but the information I've given you is correct. An Associate Membership does not allow you to put a motorcycle on the track at anytime, anywhere. In order to be able to do that, you must take the CMRA riders school, pass the written test and then with the completion certificate provided to you, apply for your racing license."

Get your January 2006 calendars out...

I just got off the phone with Dave Stueve (Daves) and he confirmed the HD dealer's meeting will be at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine again this year. SOOOO...

Here's the deal -

Saturday, January 21 - Dave's bike arrives in DFW.
Sunday, January 22 - ALL interested Buellers go for a ride toward Glen Rose (Dave want's BBQ again...but I'm betting he won't eat fried okra).
Monday, January 23 - Blake is planning a dinner, and Dave will try to "spirit" Erik away from the HD muckity-mucks to join us again.

This gives us enough time to get a few more riders involved (hopefully it won't be as cold), and more folks can plan on meeting for dinner, too. (Court, can you make it this time?)

Watch this board for updates! (I'm posting in the Houston and Hill Country boards, too.)

Can't wait till Jan!

Chris-
I tried to ride on Sunday. I found the guys at 1pm, we went to a restaurant downtown to eat. As we were leaving to go ride around NE Dallas, I was in the rear. Just as everyone is pulling out, I release the clutch and.... the engine quits. Try again, quits again. The sidestand switch was out. I was stranded on Greenville for about 30 min while a buddy brought me some tools. Got it fixed real fast, but by then they were all gone.
I'll have to catch them some other time. I'd go this weekend, but I'm planning on going to Del Rio this weekend. Any good roads around there?

Sweeeeeeeeet. I'm glad to hear they're coming back!

I've got a few new roads up my sleeve. ; )

So I'll start planning a route and submit for changes and approval as soon as I can.

Where are we going to eat this time? It MUST have fried okra or Dave won't feel like he's in Texas.

Since there is going to an event at Oak Hill Raceway on September 9/9-9/11 that many Buellers are attending, I’ve decided not to encourage the Buell participation at the 9/12 Ducati Trackday at the Motorsport Ranch in Cresson. The next Ducati Trackday will be on Monday, October 10th at the Motorsport Ranch, which is also Columbus Day and should be much cooler. So mark your calendars. I’ll be in touch.

So Dave is coming and bringing Kandie. This should be an annual event. Do yall think we can get Eric to join us for the ride.
My weather prediction:
Friday, January 20th, sunny, south wind, high 60
Saturday, 21st, overcast, calm, high 50
Sunday, 22nd, overcast, north wind, high 40
Monday, 23rd, sunny, calm, high 65.

I'm driving to Austin with the wife for the weekend. I've only flown to AUS, so help me "map out" a good drive down there - NOT I-35! We don't really care all that much how long it takes, we're just wanting some scenery.

Thanks!

Hwy 67 West, Hwy 281 South, Hwy or FM 1431 East.
Use Hwy 220 from Hwy 67 to Hwy 281 as a shortcut.

If you’re referring to September 12th, I decided not to because I wanted to drum up discussion about it 2-3 weeks before, which was about the time the OHR event was discussed. I decided to push for Buell participation on the October 10th Ducati track day. Is there anything on the weekend of 10/7-10/9 that might interfere? There’s also a November 7th date, which will be the last one till probably March 2006. These track days are very relaxed. IMO they’re not for race preparation, so riders like me should enjoy them. What are you thoughts, did you want to do September, October, November?
