What a great weekend!...Thanks to everyone for contributing so much...We were a group of thirteen (whispered) Buelligans doing some major bonding...There were Neil and Mark from the Hoosier state, DAve and Keith from the Land of Lincoln (and very straight roads) and from the Show Me state, John, Paul, Ringo and George, no, wait, it's John, Paul and Bob...And from KC so these may be Show Me's or Jayhawk's, who knows, Dave, Sam (on a Firebolt), Frank, Bill, Richie and Jeff...On Sunday we blew off the scheduled lunch at the Salty Dog (sorry Mike) and rode...At one point the thirteen (whispered) Buell's (not whispering) passed a sheriff's car going the opposite way at about 80 to 85 (us, not him) he knew he couldn't catch us!...

We're thinking Arkansas or southern Missouri for August and a three day trip...So try to arrange your schedules for Aug 16 - 18...Definitely some place with a pool...Boy, did that ever feel good Saturday eve...Also, someplace a bit cheaper than the Lake...

See Ya!

Bob

I need some input from all of you re the Arkansas thing in August...Let me give you some approx mileages from STL and KC to:
STL KC
Gassville AR 230 291
Mountain Home 217 294
Mountain View 251 345

I chose these as they are all close to the famous "Push Mountain Road", AR 341...HSTA holds a rally each year in Gassville at the Brass Door but it doesn't have a pool...There are better and more choices in Mountain Home...Let me know what you think...

See Ya!

Hey Guys
It was a great weekend getaway for me. Good to see a few people again and great to meet a bunch of fellow Buellers KC-ILL-SL. Thanks Bob and John for leading us on some great roads and cruising at a reasonable speed! I got home around 7:30PM. I had 434 miles on the old S-2 Yesterday when I got home from Osage beach to Eville! Too bad time wouldn't allow me to ride the river road back. I am sure it would have more entertaining than the super slab.
Thanks all Mark

Sounds like y'all had a great time. We mostly hung by the pool in So. In. and discussed WWII with people that were there. There and back on I70, but some decent twisties on IN46 before we got to the hotel.

August sounds good, we're checking the calandar

What time would we leave on Fri?

Steve Kohlscheen is the HSTA'er who rode down to the Elbow Inn with us last Saturday on his Sprint ST...He has asked me to pass along the web site for the custom made wrenches...I don't even remember the conversation but I think he's referring to the shock wrenches Neil kindly let me use...If you'll post the info here I'll pass it along to Steve...Or better yet join the HSTA Yahoo! group at Missouri Southern Illinois Honda Sport Touring Association and pass along the info yourself...

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,
www.mcmaster.com is the place. Just plug in "pump wrench" into the search feature. He will want one of the 30degree, thin head, short handle, chrome finish ones.
The timing gear went south on the SS. Bent all intake pushrods. I think it also got some valves. I will have to do a engine transplant on it. I feel very old today.

Neil and Mark...Sorry, I didn't mean to leave you guys out of the AR plan but it's a bunch of miles for you guys...It might work if you could get in here and stay with one of us Thursday night (I have two spare beds) and plan on returning on Monday...Fastest way for you guys to Mountain Home is "only" 398 miles...That's a bunch...

See Ya!

Shit! Shit! Shit!...An HSTA'er and a really nice guy, Keith Huckabey, was killed instantly last Sunday when he went over the center line on NC 28 between Fontana Village and Deal's Gap...From what I understand, I am fairly sure it was in the same turn where we had the Floridian center punch the Jeep head on and rupure his aorta...Keith, 48, was an MSF instructor and the western TN director of HSTA...He also ran Huck's Road and Track Rally in Gassvile AR...One of the most fun things I've ever attended...Apparently he over cooked it in that right hander, went across the line, lost the front end and the bike slid under an oncoming car bouncing up and then down onto Keith...One of the group was and EMT and is reported to have said that there was no pulse almost immediately after...This really sucks...

See Ya!

V2win, thanks for getting that site to Bob.

Bob it is a shame about Keith but, he died doing what he liked best and quickly. That's my wish if I have to go B4 90. He is in a better place where there are no LEO's or Cagers to spoil that perfect road, ride on Keith.

Back to the here and now, I've got a craving for Ted Drews. Who wants to meet me at the Chippewa store tomorrow night at 9:30 or 10:00? Drop me a line and I'll try to control my cravings until then (almost as bad as the withdrawls from this weekend !).

Or give me a call on my cell at 812-760-5015. We finally have all our utilities back in working condition from last nights little blow and a broken telephone pole in the backyard!

Call me.

Later all
Neil S.

Bob,

Ron and Nancy from www.tailofthedragon.com also have information on thier website about this accident.

Here is the post on thier site.....

BULLETIN: Keith Huckabey 48, a motorcycle safety instructor from Memphis, TN, was killed instantly late Saturday afternoon on Hwy 28 between Fontana and the Dragon in the hairpin corner near Twenty Mile Creek. The cyclist crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming car. Please watch for this dangerous corner. We received the following email from the victims friend.. "Keith was a very experienced rider, MSF instructor & friend to anyone that met him. He was the one guy in the group that would talk to you like he had known you his whole life even if it was your first time to show up for a ride. He was extremely active in all realms of sportriding organizations from the AMA to the HSTA to our local MSSR club & will always be considered a true leader. He drifted wide on a blind turn & crossed the yellow into the path of an oncoming car. He grabbed too much front brake, washed the front end, and the car ran over him. It should be known that in addition to Keith being a highly experienced rider he also preached rider safety & never did anything even remotely stupid. Crossing the yellow line in our riding group is a sin and will result in you being ridiculed for weeks so I can only assume that he drifted wide for a reason other than just carrying too much corner speed. He was a founder of our club slogan "make the turn"

Its always sad to see another biker lost especially one that promoted the sport in the manner it seems he did!
