All...Neville just posted that the meeting time for Sunday's ride has been changed to 9 a.m. but still at the Eureka QT at I-44/109/W...We will still be in New Haven at noon as the Front Street Grill doesn't even open until 11...Seems, Neville wants to ride a bit...Imagine THAT!

Okay, Dan Dunn was our overnight guest and I damn near killed him...Shirley, John and I met Dan at Supersmokers in Eureka at 7:15 last night for dinner...After dinner we drove out to the house and loaded the Hawk along side the almost new Blast he was toting home for his bride...Then, since Dan had his gear, he, John and I went for a little ride...Dan rode my Buell as I thought he would be most familiar with it rather than the beemer...We rode FF, F, O and then out N to John's...John first, me and then Dan...Suddenly no light behind me so I pulled over to wait...AND WAIT AND WAIT...Turned back to find Dan standing on the side of the road with the Buell and a HUGE trail of oil back down the road...His boots and jeans are covered...He had made a magnificent save on a left turner and the engine light came on...The rear tire was just covered in oil...The problem turned out to be that the filter had come loose...We rolled the bike into the nearest driveway and I left for John's...John grabbed some oil and an old filter just in case we couldn't reuse the one on the bike...After examining the filter we were able to just screw it back on and added almost two quarts...Wiped down the tire as best we could and back to John's where he hosed down the scoot with engine cleaner and rinsed it off...Dan and I then tiptoed via the straightest roads back to my house where upon I breathed a deep sigh of relief that Dan hadn't been hurt...Shirley is also much relieved that this stranger that I had invited to stay the night turned out to be such a nice person rather than a serial dognapper...I think the next time I overnight a biker, she'll be a LOT more receptive...I expplained to her that most of them would do the same for us...Then I revealed the existance of my presence and offer of bed in BMW MOA "Anonymous Book" and all the others who offer so much more to a stranded rider...Now she understands...Well, Dan is on his way back to TEXAS...I hope he enjoyed his stay...I know it was a bit more "entertaining" than I had planned...

See Ya 9 a.m. Sunday!

Bob

Bob,
I rode past there this morning on the way to work. That thing started to leak waaaaaay back down the road and then just got worse as it work its way loose. There is a trail of oil from the rear tire about 3-4 hundred yards long until that left hander where Dan finaly pulled over. Fog Hollow has K+N filters with a drilled nut for wire ties in stock. I would sure hate to lose a filter on a tight curve.

It's kind of unbelievable that he didn't go down...I'll run over to the Fog tomorrow and have a look...John, where do you buy your Mobil 1 and also, have you heard anything about them changing their formula and it not being recommended for motos...Or is this just rumor began by the competition...

See Ya!

Bob, there is one problem with that mobil 1. If you use it too long, your 1203 engine will turn in a fourteenhundredtwentysix cc beast with too much torque for that chassis you have.

Uh...I think that would be too much torque for the brain I have...Washed Pumpkin this morning but the rear is still oozing oil down onto the wheel...Going out for a spin to see if I can't cook some of that stuff off the tire...

Who is doing Neville's café ride tomorrow?...Sounds like quite a few of the HSTAers will be there so it should be fun...We need to add some v-twin music...By the by, Neville will be on Ron's V-Strom and you may be able to catch a demo ride...I've ridden it and it's really a neat scoot...Especially when you consider the price...Kick ass motor and with those wide bars, you can just turn, turn, turn!...But all these adventure tourers give you a sense of nosebleed from the altitude...You have to get used to that part...

See Ya!

Well I'm glad Dan didn't loose it and go down! An oil filter came loose? I've never heard of such a thing other than when I put a new oil filter on and the old seal stayed on the '66 Ford LTD (352). Spewed oil to say the least. Odd indeed. All the oil filters seem to magically tighten to 7 billion ft/lbs by the time you go to take 'em off.

Dales (aka Surdyke) had an open house of sorts today and had free Dyno runs. Well mine showed 91.9 hp and 161.8 ft/lbs of torque. Ya think they didn't know what they were doing or what? Is it possible that the torque is simply dbl of what it should be? The graph looks dorked up seeing I developed max hp at 2.4k and hp/tq intersect at about 3k.

Me thinketh they art to be decertified on that task, retrained, and re-evaluated in 30 days by Stan/Eval. .... whooops ... work kickin' in.

Tires are 1/2 price but the only thing they had for a Buell were Blast tires. I picked up a couple for my Dad (Just got a Blast at 66) They gave me some motorcycle shipping straps to make a sling of sorts and rode back ... got a lot of looks.

Anyhow ... took a Firebolt for a spin. Nimble 'little' bike that BEGS for corners. We know how many are around Mt Vernon so I still feel that I haven't experienced it's niche. Maybe over at Festus. All in all very very light and loves to weave/turn.

No comment about Sunday ... don't wanna jinx it.

JOhn ... ya still runnin' a race can? ASB has this new packing for it that's ceramic based and in a woven sleeve. The kit comes with a drill bit and steel rivets. (I use aluminum though)

If John, while riding home on his motorcycle this evening was traveling 65 mph and started counting 1001, 1002, 1003, etc when he first noticed the trail of oil from Bob's bike until he reached 1036 and the place where Dan pulled to the side of the road, how many feet did the "Pumpkin" squirt forth its vital fluids until it was shut off?

For those of you who flunked math, and if I didnt screw up, the answer is 3,342 feet, or 1144 yards, or almost 4 football fields long!

JOhn ... I came up with 3432ft or 1046 meters. Besides that ... I'm surprised you slowed to 65 mph for 36 seconds!! Normally 65 mph is only a fleeting moment on your speedometer.

DAve...I got the same answer as you:

Show your work

65 miles per hour
x 5280 feet per mile
=343200 feet per mile
/ 60 minutes per hour
= 5720 feet per minute
/ 60 seconds per minute
=95.333 feet per second
x 36 seconds
= 3432 feet that Dan bravely traversed on the
doomed Pumpkin

See Ya In The Morning!

Bob,
Had a great time!! nice choice of roads and stops. The delay on the food worked out just right for me! had it not taken so long I might not have gotten much of a break.

Dave,
Great seeing you again!!

a couple observations from today's ride!

At lunch I hear that highway 94 is a nice scenic road! Thinking to myself, cool!! meander along the MO river and check out the view! NOT! after following BOB down 94 my only observation was the pavement!! We stop and BOB says " isn't that just a beatiful road!" me thinking yes the road was awesome, hmmm wonder why I didn't see much of that scenery I heard about!! lol oh ya, I was concentrating on the road!

observation number two!! is it just me or does BOB just set his cruisecontrol on about 80? turns, straights, it all seems to go by at the same speed!!

Observation number three, why can't I get this damn grin off my face!!

I will definately try to make the next one but if it is the Ozarks, I think I will be staying the night before, gotta take in some of that nightlife!

Hey, Guys!

Oh, I feel so left out! However, the end is in sight, and I should be able to rejoin the group for rides real soon (as long as I don't have duty, which I do this weekend). I hope that some of you will be attending my graduation next week; I would love to share it with you!

Miss ya!

Hey...Slip-slidin' Dan called last night to let me know that the Hawk that has graced our garage for the past several months STARTED...He was just slowly kicking it over to see if the engine was froze and it felt so good he decided to turn on the key and Voila! it ran...A bit more than he bargained for since he only paid $100...

Keith and DAve made Midwest Rider's café ride yesterday...My food at the Front Street Grill in New Haven was very good...Some had complaints but in fairness, I think, most of the problems were due to the size of the group (20+) and the fact that we kept dribbling in...Also, when eating in a restaurant that sepcializes in a certain cuisine, it is probably best to opt for it rather than order steak in a seafood place...My jumbalaya was excellent...My kind of ride (ride to eat)...

Keith met us in New Haven and after lunch we rode on out to Hermann on 100, up 19 and then back 94...It's great to watch a flatlander having so much fun on one of our better roads (no wineries until after 47)...The three of us, Mike O', Keith and I then stopped at Shady's for a bit before sending Keith off...The heat was not too bad as long as you kept moving...The humidity was fairly low (for STL)...

John and I are considering some place to ride to starting Wed evening and returning Thur...Camping, maybe, fishing, The Gap...We're open to suggestions...

See Ya!

Bob,
I agree with you on the food. Mine was quite good. It all looked great. I think that our group was a little bigger than they were used to, especially when you added us to thier normal lunch crowd. The chef/cook came out and took full responsibility for the delay and I for one thought that was quite a "touch of class" on his part.

Seeing all the different bikes was great too! for some reason I still have that little Red Ducati Monster in my mind. Don't ask me why. It just has that mischievious look to it!

It must have been a good ride!

Heather met me at the door upon my return! She tried asking me if I had a good time or not but couldn't see my expression or hear me from inside the helmet.
Upon removal of my helmet she immediately says "you must have had a good time!"
I asked "why?"
she says "because you are smiling from ear to ear"
I say "I am just really happy to see you!"
She didn't go for that one!

Bob, once again, thanks for showing me around a bit! had a very good time. Maybe your new buddy that you met on the ex250 will show up to the next event! He seemed quite impressed with Mike O' and your riding skills! My apologies but I have to give him the quote of the day! "How fast were guys going?" " I have been trying to keep up with you guys since we left Hermann!" I was thinking to myself "ME TOO!" I at least was able to somewhat keep you two in sight! I lost the guy on the EX in my rearview coming across the bridge in Hermann. So I doubt he ever saw you two from the time we were stopped!

I take that back! Bob I will give you the quote of the day! Upon reaching Marthasville, we take all our gear off. light a smoke. Bob asks me what happened to my "squid buddy back there". I respond "I don't know we left him leaving Hermann" Bob and Mike go in, get a drink, and come back out. The guy on the EX arrives and goes through the before mentioned converstaion. Bob, very judiciously looks at him and responds "you know you really need to get some more riding equipment." "A coat gloves etc." " I know it might be a little difficult coming up with the money at your age, I know it was when I was that age, but if you are going to ride, you really need to get the gear" Then Bob gratiously informs him when the next few rides are and invites him to join in sometime.

Very impressive! this guy is totally impressed with the riding skill and Bob gratiously gives him an education, at a time when the guy is extremely apt to listen! I really think he got the message. Hopefully this guy will get the gear and become a member of the motorcyling community for many years to come! Bob the mentor!

Keith

p.s. If I make to many more of these events, John is just going to have to come up with a new source of tires!

Keith...It was our pleasure and you are welcome to join either us or HSTA's First Saturday or, now, Neville's Fourth Sunday Café ride...I know Heather's aunt lives here, but you are always welcome to stay at our house...The daughter's old room is almost always vacant except for the rare occasion when she is back home...I was impressed with Jason on the Ninja and with the questions he asked...I know this hot weather is problematic for the wearing of good gear...Actually it's HSTA that has taught me a bit of how to approach those that you'd hate to see the aftermath of a slide down the road...It's tough to not come off as a "Know It All" and sometimes I'm not able to avoid it...HSTA just comes right out and let's everyone know that they'd be much more welcome if they were wearing the gear...As you probably know, we had rider go down this spring at about 60 but wearing a one piece "Stich" and just bounce back up shouting "I'm OK, I'm OK" (shades of "Caddyshack";) and they really were OK...Not a scratch...Of course it helps a whole lot if you don't HIT anything...

DAve. what did you have at the Front Street Grill and how was it?...It WAS neat that you and Keith were able to join the ride and get to enjoy a bit of MO roads...When is the unveiling of the new scoot?...

All...I'm going to write checks to refund the $20 dues that we collected last year...There really is no cost involved if we keep this strictly a web club...Please cash it as soon as you receive it so that I can close the account and keep for incurring any more back service charges...

Upcoming Rides:

Saturday, July 6th, HSTA First Saturday Ride, leaves Chesterfield Valley Powersports at 9:00 a.m...

Saturday, July 13th, HSTA Second Saturday get-to-gether at the Steak 'N Shake in Rolla, noon...

Sunday, July 21st, Third Sunday SLAB ride, leaves the Eureka QT, I-44/109/W at 10:00 a.m...We're going to ride down to the Lake of the Ozarks to meet up with the KC bunch...

Sunday, July 28th, Midwest Rider's Café ride, from the Eureka QT at 9:00 a.m...

That's about it for now (whew!)...

See Ya!

I've never been disappointed ridin' any roads in MO BOb. Like I said the other day...riding with you (and JOhn) is like having a built in navigational system with a complete threat assessment subsystem built in. When one of you are hittin' the brakes I know somethin' is up. You both use 'em very sparingly. I have a ways to go before I can match your finesse. Driving on quarter mile concrete slabs that run for miles without a curve doesn't help either though. :) (Are you MO boys still willing to do that tire exchange with us flatlanders? Ya know ... our worn out centers for your worn out edges)

I had the Mufalatta (sp?) sandwich because I never heard of it before. An experiment on my part that was "ok" but not for me due to the heavy amount of olives. Edible but that's comin' from a guy that liked K and C-rats and thinks most MREs are pretty good. :) They could never keep enough tea in my glass and I thought I broke my tooth on an olive pit that snuck into the sandwich. I'd not order it again seeing how good some of the other dishes looked (Sautéed sirloin tips w/mushrooms and onions, jambalaya, red beans, etc)

The S2 needs some work done before I'll ride it and I'm not in too big of a hurry....maybe in a month or so it'll be road worthy. :)

4th of July recommendations? My brother, wife and two teenage girls are visiting. Looking for cheap entertainment and they've already seen the arch. Perhaps Meramac caverns...6 Flags...Grant farms... ... ideas?

DAve...How about the fair and air show?...Besides being free, it's about the best thing going...

All...Regarding this month's Third Sunday ride which is supposed to be to the Lake of the Ozarks...I'm thinking that we'll probably break into two groups...Those that want to go down for two days on Saturday and those who can only do Sunday...Also, John has pointed out that the Sunday start time should be moved WAY up, say to 8 a.m. or earlier ir you want, to allow for the 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get there...Please post here if you're planning on going and if you will be leaving Sat or Sun...

See Ya!
