Just a quick note- Adventure HD/Buell(?) in New Philadelphia, Ohio has an '03 XB9SL for $5995. I didn't get any details about it, I was just surprised to see that price at a dealer. The bike looked relatively clean.

Jinance-late entry- it was shocking to see Mike barrelling past me in the buff. Not more than 100 yards to the hwy. Wish you would have had the camera to get my reaction as well as his son. Funny part was when the pontoon trolled by with about 12 women on it, so funny.
Twig- glad to hear your shop is almost up. Have to come up and see it.

David, Man good to here from you. I wish you could be here for the photo too. We were rained out last weekend but are going to try again next weekend.

I'll see if we can get a Camo XB12X and see if Desert testing is needed. LOL

David, be safe, everyone else have a good weekend and hopefully we will get together next weekend for picture and meeting.

U4euh - The buff huh? I don't (really do) want to know. Hey, don't be a stranger, it would be great to see you in Smithfield next weekend.

M2-when and where? Times?
Rubberdown and myself are wanting plan a deep sea trip on a Saturday, then spend the night. Been talking about the fact that we could meet up with the C-3 group. I know I am not yet a member, but I have made some drawings on possible logo's, just can't get my damn scanner working.

As far as the lake, lets just say that it was HHAAAAWWWWWWTTTTT that day, (and that means temp. not Mike's white arse flyin past me!). Even the water was warm, but refreshing after that long toy run.
Let me know what date, JIM

Ok, I think I have a engine problem with my 12R. Getting what sounds like a valve flap or when I accelerate in the lower rpms(2000-3000) especially when I am just keeping up with slow traffic and I ease into it a gear or so higher than needed for real acceleration. My oil level is fine, and no lights on. Not sure if it is a natural with Air Cooled as this is my first., But I really dont think so. Let me know what anyone thinks. Oh and she's straight Stock. Talked to Lee at Shelton's and he said it was probably spark knock due to the engine lugging and getting hot. I was thinking the same, but was a little worried as it is the loudest spark knock I have ever heard. But it does clear up at idle and heavy throttle, so it cant be that bad. Larry

Hey All,

I met a CityX rider at New River H-D/Buell in Jacksonville today. I told him about badweb (but I forgot to tell him about registering in order to post) and the C-3 BRAG Group. He just got back from a month in Iraq and will be leaving for 10 months of training in Maryland and California, but is pretty sure he will be coming back to this part of the country after that. Other than the fact that some woman in a Suburban forced him into a quick dismount at about 35 mph, he is up for getting together and doing some riding (most likely this won't be until after he is done with the 10 month training deal). Mathias (Ma-thigh-us) is his name and even though he used to have a CBR 600 (If I remember correctly) he is a Buell believer. While chatting with him a salesman came over to shake his hand and say hello. Before I could ask the salesman about when they would have a Ulysses, Mathias asked him when they would have one of the adventure bikes. The salesman's response was 'I'm expecting one to arrive any day now'. They did however have a Night Rod and Street Bob on the floor (both with SOLD tags on them). Yes, this was with my parents sitting outside in the air conditioned rental car...I gave Mathias the best directions I could to Old Maple Hill Road, but on the way to taking my parents to dinner at Holland's Fish Camp I noticed that Haw's Run Road looked to be where we've turned off to get to Old Maple Hill Road from the North. Carlos, can you confirm if this is the proper road to get there from the North? I hope that Mathias figures out how to register on badweb, posts here and keeps in touch with us.

Due to everything going on right now I will not be able to order a new back tire for the S2 until Friday the 12th, so there is an icecubes chance in Hell that I will have new rear rubber on it by the date of the picture. Do I:
a) Ride the Buell like last weekend and take it easy?
b) Take the V-Rod and catch a lot of flack? Spike said I could only take it to one meeting without getting stoned for riding it to the meeting, but technically I didn't even make it to that meeting...
I really would rather that my S2 represents itself for the C-3 picture, but if we go along with cropping the photo from last weekend into the picture from next weekend I should be able to take the V-Rod just so that I am there with everyone without worrying about the S2 not representing in the picture.

Sorry to have rambled - too much going on in my world right now,
1313

Wow...That was a lot of info. I know what you are talking about on the tire. Just put a D208 on the rear of mine. Cyclegear( cyclegear.com )in Raleigh has almost internet prices and only 11.99 to put the tire on the rim.
I talked to one of the sales people from Ray Price I just happened to meet at food lion last night. He told me that the gas at sheetz(which is where I always buy gas) is the worst gas in the area and possibly isnt even the correct formula for the south. So that will hopefully clear up my Spark Knock. Also told me that Harley has built a factory drag bike based on the V-rod, $33,000 and Harley won't finance. Ray Price is getting 2, one to keep and one to sell(out of a little over 300 total). He said there is even going to be a new hdra class(not sure on that Part) Larry

Jim & Mike (I don't know why sitting in a tree comes to mine),

We are going to meet for the C3 picture for Fuell Mag, next Sunday, August 14th at 11am. Location will be the Shelton's HD/Buell Dealership in Smithfield. The dealership is located at the Outlet Mall there in Smithfield. Man hope you can make it. As long as you are a BRAG member we can get you sign up. I believe we need to move the meetings there because if really seems to be a central location for all of us. I hope you can make it.

I thought after the picture we can go ahead and have the August Meeting, it makes sense. I will have to get Dave to call and see if that will be alright with Shelt & company. Also I talked to John at the Goldboro store and I believe they will have a Uly by then. Maybe a good idea to get it there to promote the new bike with all of us there.

Brankin, Cropping the picture should not be a problem. I would not push that back tire anymore and if taking it easy includes riding 90mph in pouring rain passed a State Trooper, I think you better not. LOL, he didn't want to get wet did he!

I know it's an attack on your pride, but I will offer anyway, we can always trailer the S2 there. I really would not mind as much as you would. If not I know I can forgive a V Rod there if some day you could forgive the Nighthawk. Never know, it could happen.

I took the M2 to the Kinston Drag strip Thursday Night. I was not impressed with the outcome, the bike really did not seem to be pulling very good in third. It felt as if it was starved for air. Anyway here are the results.

12.85 seconds @ 102.76MPH in the 1/4 Mile.

The bike left the line great, my best 60' time was 2 seconds flat. I do not know if I broke those lights with the front or back tire because the front tire was 2' to 3' off the ground on that launch. According to a friend spotting, I pulled the GSX-R1000 by three bike length off the lights. No I didn't get him, he caught me just before the 1/8" mile.

I got the bug though. I was looking at buying a new (newer) bike. XB-R or a brand X super bike, but after Thursday I think I'm going to turn the M2 into a project bike. I don't want to do everything at one time, just change a few things at a time. To get me started, I just received the peg risers. I'm getting tired of finding the pegs in the turns. Even though it would be easier to run fast with more cylinders, I was the only V-2 there and it really turned some heads. If I can get the bike up to speed, I think it would be allot more fun.

Ok, I'm rivaling Brankin on the rant, so I hope to see everyone next weekend. Please think about what event we want to do. I know that Skeeter asked about the Appalachian Adventure. I know I am planning to go. Think about it.

Hey, Just talked to Larry at Ray Price and he said that they wern't expecting 12X until sept. I had asked him last night so he checked. He also told me he had 3 people ask this morning alone. As for that Back tire Brankin...That thing was all gone 3 weeks ago, rather see the V-Rod than visit you in those sterile hospital places. Without Spike, I would have still had mine parked. His Knowledge and experience kept me from popping a vein when the rear Axle was seized. Larry

Jim Nance, I would like to get everyone there again, but I may have to crop the picture anyway. While installing my peg risers I may have figured out where those false neutral shifts were coming from. I told you I was leaving the line hard at the drag strip the other night, so hard that I left some of the belt there. I'm missing three teeth and three more are going. I'm going to Shelton's today to see when I can get another one.

Sorry Mike, this is why I must always censor my thoughts. Anyway, hope you guys can make it. I may be on brand X but I'll be there.

Carlos,

Air cleaner mods - Buell -tiful! I know you will be pleased, and in your situation I think it is the best place to start. Next Sunday I look forward to hearing what your future plans are.

Shearing teeth off a belt is usually an indication that the belt was set on the loose side. The first belt that went on my S2 was because of some sheared off teeth after/while I did a wheelie. Fortunately it was replaced under warranty, unfortunately I had to take the belt from the factory to the dealer. A snapped belt is usually indicative of it being set too tight (or I will add from my experience - old age). When you get ready to replace the belt (kind of a fun job on a tuber without a removable sideplate) we can compare the manual procedure for setting the belt tension vs. the 'Dano method'.

Another quick note- Epcot has an '04 XB12R hanging from the ceiling along with a few early drawings of the XB on the wall. It's in the "innoventions" building as part of a "world of plastics" display. I managed to take some pictures, but doing so required entering the display and competing in the virtual plastic robot game. I was proud to say that I had designed both the fastest and the best looking robot out of ~15 competitors, but then I realized that I was the only one of those competitors that didn't have adult supervision . . . unless my wife counts.

Also, Seminole HD/Buell in Orlando FL has an XB12X Ulysses and an XB12Ss Lightning Long in stock, both are black. However, they do not have any Buell t-shirts.
