I've been seeing a lot of Buells up in the Santa Cruz Mountains over the past few weeks. I wanted to see if anyone on this board is in the area and likes to ride...often. I try to get into the hills a couple times a week but am always alone. It's alway more fun and safe withe multiple bikes. So how bout it? It's gonna be beautiful as normal this weekend. Or the next? We have such the greatest roads/weather around. Lets take advantage of it. I don't want to organize parking lot meets. I want to start this as a thread to organize RIDES I hope someone's with me | ||

I would be interested. I live up north(Benicia), but would ride down for a day of riding. I'm riding down to the MotoGP on that Friday morning, and plan on hitting some roads on my way if anyone is riding down then. | ||

I am hoping this thread will be the place to organize rides in the SF Bay area. Just post up in here, and I check it each day. I'd love to find a group who likes to ride often. Nothing formal, just to enjoy the great roads we have here. | ||

Well, if everyone doesn't know already, www.pashnit.com and then click on California roads. They have a lot of roads in the area. If anyone has some they want to ride on, then lets ride them!! Anyone going down to Laguna Seca for the races? I'm going, gonna ride down on Friday morning. | ||

I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it to the races that weekend. It's gonna be a mad house down there. I'm gonna head up Page Mill Rd. after work today...do a loop either up to 92 or 9 or something longer. If anyone wants to join me that'd be great. I dont know how often the thread is getting checked. But it's a killer day for riding. | ||

Real good, Newxb9er. I see fom your profile that you're up in the North Bay. We ought to do an American Sport Bike Night at Vallejo Buell. That would allow some of the North Bay folks to come out. Hopefully I'll get to meet you and some others at Laguna. I'll be making the rounds to check out some non-Buell pals that camp out every year, and hanging with the faithful as well. | ||

Nice to see people checking out this thread. What exactly is Am. Sport Bike Night? Seems like a meeting centered around racing. Is this a good assesment? Wish I was a bigger fan of straw hat pizza. Sure have nice riding weather this weekend. I like it not so hot. Yesterday I saw a bunch a Buells on Bear Creek rd. near Bolulder Creek. Today I hopefully will make a trip up Mt Hamilton rd. I love the views on that ride. | ||

Hey Santacruzmtnman, There are guys from as far down as Hollister and Boulder that come up for our meetings. BUt now there is a branch off of folks called "South Bay Buellers" who meet on Fridays. If you send me your e-mail address I'll hook you up...or better yet, I'll post their groups address. They are a Yahoo Groups club. The American Sport Bike Night meetings center around Buells mostly, and racing when it's relevant or a happens to be a current event. We are alos friendly with other makes of bikes and their riders. We follow Team Elves, Land Speed stuff in general, Hill Climbing, Vallejo's Racing effort, etc. We also have guest speakers from BIke Mags, like City Bike, etc. Too much to post here, but that's it in a nutshell. BTW, I'll be riding down to LAguna on Friday 7/8, if anyone's intersted in riding together. I tend to ride briskly, but not wildy fast. It's a long way and I'd like to avoid getting tagged (ticketed) on the way there. My wife is driving our car to the Hotel in Salinas where we are staying during the races, but I am riding so we can bike into the Laguna every day. I am told that is a better way to get in if you are not actually camping there. | ||

Great to read about the Bay Area scene again. I moved from Sonoma to Maine in 2001. I have no regrets but miss the people and places. I recently acquired a '00 M2 and found this great BBS. I crossed the Golden Gate Bridge on a bike for my first time in about 1962, also made a couple of the fabled "Sunday Morning Rides" from Sausalito to Stinson Beach around that same time. I was of the touring gaggle, not the racing gaggle. It was worth it to start a little early and then pull off the watch some of the hard core riders dicing as they came up Highway 1. There was one spot where you could see them coming and going for a mile or two. When I mentioned that I was coming on Sunday before my first one, Jim Monroe (Monroe Motors) knew I was a newbie and told me, "Ride a speed you feel comfortable with, keep a smooth natural line, and don't try to change your line or do anything else to help as faster riders come up behind. Enjoy the ride". It worked out great, Jim lifted a hand as he blew by me on his 500cc twin (a Tiger Trophy?) around Muir Beach. Nostalgia may be the only thing that is as good as it used to be. I love this about the Bay Area Bike Scene...it's got so much history. I am normally hangin' around an older and strictly Harley cruiser crowd in Santa Cruz. These guys have been riding with each other since the 60's, and they're still so excited to ride. It must help to have such great weather. And oh yeah, the XB9s scares the hell out of all of them. I've only got one of my buddies take a ride, and after he got sideways from some oversteer, he too wont go near the bike. It just cracks me up. I'll check out the S.Bay Buellers, maybe I'll make it to a meet sometime. Anyone going to Hollister this weekend? | ||

Not going to Hollister this weekend, but I am very near to getting my son a dirtbike and after that happens, we will eventually make it down there. Is the Hollister thing this weekend? | ||

I'll be leaving sometime Friday morning from Castro Valley. Not sure exactly when but I can adjust to hook up. My only possible catch is not having my new tires on by Thursday and then having to rush that Friday morning. But in any case, I'm easy as far as time of departure. I'll keep you posted. Here's my cell - 510-305-6485. Riding down with you and anybody else that wants to join would be cool. I generally go Hwy 880 to 17, to 1 and on to Monterey, but 880 to 101 is a way to go as well. I'll need to take a detour into Salinas to pay for my hotel room first, then onto Monterey. My wife will be meeting me down there sometime Friday afternoon. Yee-haw! p.s. ANybody coming in from parts far and wide feel free to jot my number down. I live about 1 1/2 from Monterey so am sort of local. If any of you travelers get in trouble, call me and we'll see what we can do. I also plan of having my IPAQ with e-mail and internet with me. | ||

Jon, Sounds good. I don't have a specific time I would like to leave. If your tires get in, and you want to leave a little later on Friday so you're ready, than I'm for it. Anyone else going down?? I really wanted to go to the American Sport Bike Night meeting on Monday, but since it's the 4th of July, and I live about 45 minutes away, it's gonna be impossible since I have family duties to attend to!!
