I don't know yet, James. Makeing plans like that is difficult for me due to my injury, I just have no idea what I will or won't be up for doing that far in advance.

Hmmm.... That sounds tempting...

Mount Palomar was AWESOME on the way home. Not quite as nice as the 191, but a good deal of fun anyway : ). Blasting through the desert on Hwy 78 was pretty cool too : ).

Carey- I know your not happy with the new bikes, and quite frankly they aren't for me either. I just can't see myself on the new X, but think about Tortilla Flats. You wouldn't have to stop where the pavement ends...you could just keep rippin' all the way to the lake! That could be a LOT of fun...

I'd like to see the X with some racing slicks at a track day. Might be just what a few people are looking for.

I'm not unhappy with the new bikes just a little disappointed thats all, if I was gonna spring for a adventure sportbike it would be a KTM Duke or a Super Duke, it would be water cooled for on and off road riding out here. And those are still street tires on the XB12X. And yes Dave sorry to say no XB for me, done alot of thinking about it and its time for something different, if I had the luxury of owning more than one bike I would buy yours in a heartbeat!!!

Although I really like this bike, this was my first idea, a blacked out XB, still needs more black!!!

Carey the tires on the 12X are Dunslops version of the Pirelli Scorpions, but with more voids to allow better off road grip.

Look at them... They are dual purpose tires. They wouldn't do too well in soft sand, but they should be just fine on dirt. I think the reason they needed a new design is that they seem to offer more traction when leaned over on pavement than your average dual purpose tire...

I don't know about that : )... Maybe I just type fast enough that it costs me less to use the backspace key and revise : ).

I looked at that tire though, it looks like the center is fairly well suited to dirt, and the next 1/3 is kind of intermediate. Then you get out to the edge (you won't be using that in the dirt) seems like it would grip pavement better.

It's just like DOT race tires... You see some tread in the center just in case you hit some water, very little tread for the next 1/3 because you shouldn't be leaning any more than that in the rain anyway (you're not coming back if you do) and then slick on the sides because you'll only be there when it's dry anyway...

It looks like a very well thought out tire (just like the rest of the bike if you ask me : )). I like it quite a lot. I may buy one... There isn't a law against having TWO Buells yes?

They wouldn't do too well in soft sand,

I beg to differ, they do very well for the type of tire they are.

1/3 because you shouldn't be leaning any more than that in the rain anyway (you're not coming back if you do)

Unless your name is Valentino Rossi...

I'll be here : ).

I'm sure they do well for the type of tyre they are, but I mean stuff like you have at Glamis or in the Dakar... They would just bury in short order. As far as Valentino : )... Yeah, he did pretty well, but he's running race-rain tires, not DOT race tires : ) He has a LOT more water evacuation going on and those tyres don't work well in the dry at all... Too soft. They heat up and get destroyed in a matter of a few laps (well, with nearly 300HP anyway : )).

BTW... Is that you in the testing video?
