Wow....I am glad to be smack dab in the middle of NYC relishing the lowest crime rate in America for any city over 1 Million folks... I'm heading to Central Park where it's safe ! And...hey..as an advocate of curb feelers, I loved your streamers slammed in the truck word picture. A Mercedes with gold trim (and no diplomatic plates) almost always evokes suspicion. | ||

Josh...John and I visited the Mother Jones monument in Mt Olive when researching our West VA trip last year...She was also very active in the Mine Wars there in the 20's...Quite an interesting figure...She was a bit disgraced in WV because of giving out some information that turned out to be false re a letter from the then President...But, at the time, she was very elderly and on the down side of her career...She soon died in D C very impoverished...Big Coal was unionized in IL as a result of her and many others activities and when you look at many of the graves immediately around the minument, you notice that they all died on the same day of lead poisoning...The southern WVA coal fields were the last mines in the US to be successfully organized...Thanks for the info and link...But, what?...No pork chop data?... Keith...Okay, I'll talk to John tonight...Riding up the MO side of the Misssisssipppi would do nicely...We know pretty good roads that get us as far N as Louisiana and then again just before Hannibal...I'll let you know either tonight or tomorrow but a visit to Quincy sounds good to me...Maybe John will jump in here...He's home but working outside...We're staying at the Best Inns of America, 217.522.1100... The the unwashed masses...You missed a great day yesterday...We don't get many "perfect weather" days like that...Could be you won't see another until Fall...Actually, I thought the ride and company were even better than the restaurant...The Rivers Edge is OK but not great...Best thing was the strawberry puff, fresh out of the oven, for dessert (just ask Mariabelen)...The gumbo was fair and my shrimp creole was, again, just OK...We had Mariabelen and Josh, Paul, Dave (newby on red X1), John, Kevin H (for a bit), Adam, Capt Dave, Bill Gross (originally friend of Kevin D's, now friend of all) Bandit 1200S, Bill Jones (on Amy's "reconditioned" scoot), R1 Jeff, Mike O'B, and G'Dave...(Who did I forget?)...Did I mention that the weather was unbelievable?... Court!? What are you doing on the SlAB page? slumming? While you're here, you mentioned long ago that pass. peg nuts would fit on the exhaust studs. Which bikes did that work on? We tried it on a 98?S1 on Sunday and it wouldn't work. Bob, just when I was wondering who I'd been discussing Mt Olive with before. Haven't we had this conversation twice before? Pork Chops (or at least good food): River Dock in Hardin or the place at the Kampsville ferry. Dave on the X1, I don't think you ever did get to follow us, that black BMW got in there at QT and then I had the helmet/earplug problem that knocked us out after the gas stop. if you plan on making a day of riding out of friday, might I suggest heading as far north as Nauvoo before heading east. They are having a grand opening for the new Moorman Temple there. it is open to the public for a limited time before they close the doors and only let members of the church in. Heather was up there a couple weeks ago and said it was really something to see. She said the history of Nauvoo and religion were quite interesting. It a all sounded a little wierd to a couple german catholics, but to each thier own! If you haven't been in Nauvoo, it is actually quite a nice area. They have a historical area that they renovated. many old houses, working blacksmith shop, working old brick factory, etc... The Road between Hamilton IL and Nauvoo is one of my favorites. It runs right along the edge of the river and is quite scenic with some nice hills and curves. not much between here and hamilton unless you head up through MO. There are a few nice blacktops with curves. the pavement over there is ok. Let me know What your plans are and maybe I can make some suggestions or hook up with you guys for a bit. keith | ||

Just thought I'd drop a note this morning. First Ride with Racerboy and V2WIN. These guys don't let any grass grow under thier feet! Glad we were in IL! All the straights gave me a chance to catch up after the few curves we encountered! I think the quote of the day goes to V2WIN though. (sorry BOB) V2 "Hey Keith, Looks like you are going to be needing a new rear tire sometime soon. Me "yep she's going to be needing one soon" V2 "think I might have a set you can have" Me "REALLY!" v2 "ya they are wore out on the edges but the centers are in great shape! perfect for IL riding!" Me "DOH, walked right into that one!"  This conversation was followed up by BOB coming up with the idea of trading tires back and forth between us IL guys and the MO guys. Richie...I received you check in the mail yesterday and the clear lens and LED's went out today...Let me know what you think when you get them installed... NOTICE...HSTA 1st Saturday ride is this coming Saturday, June 1...Kickstands up PROMPTLY at 9 a.m from Chesterfield Vally Powersports...They are riding to Bixby for lunch...Brigit and Tony are going to BBQ for $6.95...There is an AMA dual sport event taking place this weekend and these guys and gals will also be refueling at the Bixby Country Store...There is also a chance that Dave Despain (SpeedChannel) will be there...Some of the HSTAers will continue on south to one of the members farm's for an overnighter...I'm sure they would make you welcome if you choose to do this...But, contact me at 314.821.0776 if you want to overnight so I can make certain there is still room in the barn...
