I hope everyone rode to work today. I did. Then I left, Ha!

Larry, it was great riding with you too, Stop Sign and all. Buells have such great brakes!

As for this weekend there is a Big ride from Greenville to New Bern. This Saturday, July 23rd, there will be two rides going on.

The morning ride will be the annual Christmas in July, Toys for Tots, toy run. Carlee and I have done a couple of these and they are always a good time. There are usually allot of bikes, with the overwhelming majority being Cruiser type motorcycles. Last one we went to there was over 700 motorcycles.

Beings at Greenville Toyota (Memorial Drive).
Registration starts at 8:30am
Ride starts at 10:30am
First ride ends at 11:45am at Ron Ayers Motorsports (North Memorial Drive)
Cost is an unwrapped Toy or a $10 Dollar donation.

The afternoon ride is called the Ferry Ride. It starts at Ron Ayers in the afternoon and according to the flier, you ride back roads to Bath NC, and ride the Bayview/Aurora Ferry across the Tar river. The ferry ride is free and takes about 30minutes. Then they ride from the ferry to New Bern for dinner.
Ride starts at 2:00pm
Cost pay for your own dinner.

You do not have to do the first ride to do the second ride.

I am going to do the first run with Carlee for sure and thought it would be great for us to meet somewhere in Greenville that morning and ride in together with Buells.

What do you think?

I went on their normal Christmastime toy run and actually the roads they took were pretty cool. I had wished that I was on my Buell and that all them damn, slow cruiser riders were not there. They're not quite as good as the roads Dave has taken me on around his domicile, but they are more entertaining than your average coastal road. It also may help in the compilation of some roads to ride on. If I convince myself that I can slack off for a day I will be there, but on the V-Rod as the S2's rear tire does not seem to know how to regenerate rubber over the cords. Just how early are you thinking about meeting up in Greenville?

The ferry ride sounds interesting since it will put me back at home. I've gotten some reports that there are some good riding roads out by Bath, but since my memory banks didn't store the names of the roads I haven't taken the time to go explore the area.

I have to admit- I did not ride to work on "ride to work day." I had to go out on a sales call and riding gear would not have made appropriate attire. If it's any consolation I rode to work today and I can see my bike out the window from my desk.

I'm up for either of the rides on Saturday, but the morning ride will be easier for me to commit to since Sarah will be gone all morning anyway.

Keep me posted.

G-ville is a solid two hour ride from Fuquay, so I'd need some advanced notice if I was going to make it there in the 8:30am range. Are we definitely riding? Where are we meeting?

When I read the statement:
Registration starts at 8:30am
Ride starts at 10:30am

My mind sees:
You don't have to meet up until 10:00 a.m. somewhere near where the run starts.

But I ain't calling the shots on this one, so I am anxiously waiting as the rest are for the time to meet up
. I'm even wanting to go to bed early tonight so that I get my proper weekend sleep after this hellacious week.

First ride ends at 11:45...Hmmm...11:00 a.m. Central Time equates to 12:00 noon Eastern Time...I wonder where the closest internet access is after the ride so we can scope out the new XB12X Ulysses and the new Lightning Long...Like they are going to kill me for letting the cats out of the bag less than 15 hours before they're supposed to be unveiled...Especially when so much has been said about the Ulysses...

Spike-
Have you tried the new link from Raleigh to Greenville? HWY 64 bypass is something that I remember seeing a week or two just being opened to cut the travel time from G'ville to Raleigh (and one would think vice-versa). If I was closer to either and needed to go to the other I would've paid closer attention. Here's a little link I found:

or

Hey Guys,

Mike & Larry, they have the bypass finished around Nightdale. It makes the ride from Raliegh to Greenville much quicker. I can make it from RDU to Greenville in about an hour and fifteen minutes. So I would ride onto 64, follow to 264 toward Rocky Mount and Greenville. The speed limit is 70mph all the way. Watch for the 264 turn off.

Once you approach Greenville stay straight on the road and do not take the clover leaf to stay on 264. The Highway ends and it becomes Stantonsburg Rd. Continue straight until you see Pitt Memorial Hospital, on your left. We will meet at the Eckerds on the right, across from the hospital at the third light.

Registration starts at 8:30am but the ride doesn't start until 10am. We were thinking that 9am at the Eckerds. I left a message on your cell stating the same thing, but it cut me off.

Anyway, hope to see you there!

Hey Guys,

U4euh invited Rubberdown and myself to a charity ride this morning. I just got home, they are probably still on the road. I had a great time. I'll let Jim fill everyone in on the details of the event since I don't even know what it was called. But it was over 300 bikes, going from Fayetteville to Durham. We had a police escort the whole way, which was nice. This was the first time I had ever ridden in a big group like that. It's harder than I thought it would be.

We rode around Jordan lake on the way home. I thought I knew a good way to get there, but the road I choose sucked (15/501). Rubberdown knew a better road, so we took that one in.

I often forget that I am really a new rider, then an event like today will come along. I do well until I start getting tired, and then my skills start to fall apart. It was fun watching Jim and Mike. You can tell they have been riding a while.

Well, its naptime now. Hope you all had a great day!

Sonofabiscuit! The Devil's Rejects is sold out here in New Bern tonight. My only reason for leaving as early as I did. Oh well, I guess the whole weekend is shot as I will have to go to Jacksonville tomorrow to guarantee that I will be able to see it, as they have 4 shows vs. New Bern's one show daily. I guess I can 'waste' my evening watching the 'prequel' House of 1000 Corpses on DVD. I rode all the way to Rocky Mount just to see House of 1000 Corpses when it came out. Rob Zombie's movies kick asphalt, I just wish he'd come out with some new music.

Oh yeah, it was a good ride today and amazingly I forgot to take any pictures of the 5 Buell's we had (plus the token X1W, that someone will hopefully save from being chopped) in Greenville today. Larry, it was good meeting you and riding with you. Spike, it was good to see you as always (you've probably already found this out, but the XB12S and XB12Scg are what are available in Valencia Orange - sounds like a trademark infringement if I've ever heard of one...). Carlos, good to ride again. Dave, good seeing and riding with you. I just hope you are not really becoming a member of the fair weather riding club.

And Spike, yes the Torque handgrips are still $79.95.

Good ride in Greenville today. The bike numbers were way down because of the 6+ inches of rain the night before and an early morning shower right over Greenville. Still I'm guestimating about 100 bikes braved the elements and rode for Toys-for-Tots.

C3 guys, good to ride with you. It was fun just cutting up on the back roads. The view from the back of the pack was neat, when the curves came up, we all bunched up and it looked like a mini GP. The only problem was the dirt on the roads from the rain the night before meant I got pelted with rocks and dirt. It was all good.

Dave and I have to get the group together for a C3 Brag picture for Fuell magazine. We need to have the next meeting and we really have to make it where everyone can attend. Dave and I already discussed that this meeting needs to be in Smithfield, since it is more centrally located to the group. I think Dave has more details but he is having internet link up problems this morning. While he is figuring that out, when in the near future works out for everyone, or better what days are real date breakers for everyone? If there is a date you know you can not make it, let us know by e-mail or post here. We need to figure out the best date, and go from there.

Hope to see you all.

My parents are coming down for their yearly visit the first weekend in August, so I will definitely be unavailable then. Any other time I will be able to make work as I have no other commitments. After yesterdays festivities, and with the picture being taken in Smithfield, I DEFINITELY need a new rear tire before anything else! One question, which I think I already know the answer to. Is their a Buell sign at the store in Smithfield where the picture will be taken? Or can we possibly come up with a logo (and banner of said logo) in time for the picture? If we do the pitcure on a Sunday, we can do it before or after hitting Michael's (I haven't been there during the peak season, so I guess that's a little of my personal agenda). My, make that OUR, creativity needs to kick in so that we can have the most unique group picture BRAG has seen...

So who has any ideas? Arranging the bikes to form a Pegasus logo. Spell out Buell with the bikes (would take a LOT of bikes). Writing Buell on the pavement with someones back tire. It would be really cool if we could get a picture of the whole group riding together pitched over in a corner. A group shot with Spike pulling a wheelie behind the rest of the group (all you would see over everyone's head would be Spike's front wheel. Just some immediate thoughts. What are yours?

O.K., got the computer to run again.

Yeah, yesterday was fun. The Toys for Tots run was a good time though at times I thinks we was the scourge of the event. From my lambasting the the guy from the chopper shop who rode in on an X-1 White Lightning for even considering killing it to build a mutant, to our front and center parking spaces at Ron Ayers Motorsports (Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki), then us standing in the service department giving that poor guy with the 959 wheel a hard time because the tire was perfect everywhere but the center. Pauletta won 2 dozen bagels, and Carlos won 2 pizzas so there was some profit in the whole deal too!

The ride around the back roads of Pitt Co. was fun too! Like Carlos said, the only bummer was that the roads weren't in the best shape due to all the rain, but still tires got scuffed to the edge, and folks were smiling so all was good.

As Carlos mentioned, I got a letter from Mary Baszynski at BRAG and we've been chosen for a club feature in a future issue of Fuell! There's some details about the size and whatnot of the picture but she also wants a written description of us and our club.

We need to get this into her before August 31st, 2005. The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I need to do it soon as by the middle of August I'll be on the road for a few weeks training and I don't know when I'll be home. Smithfield is fine with me, Michael's is fine with me, a ride before and/or after is fine with me, just need to make it soon. Next weekend would be great! I'll also send out the info via the internet mailing list to make sure everyone gets the info.

Brankin, fair weather rider? INDEED!

Jim,

Thanks for the offer. I actually road Dave's Blast when I first started riding street bikes. The thing is I remember when the Nighthawk power overwhelmed me. Then when I got the M2, I thought its would be all I could handle. Now, both seem a little underpowered, so could I live with a Blast? As a commuter, maybe as the wife's starter bike(hoping there), and as my entry in Dave's Blast spec series hopes, yeah, I am really looking now for one.

One question, I hear the tires do not last, what kind of mileage are you getting out of the Blast tires?

Carolina Corner Carvers logo 1
Carolina Corner Carvers logo 2

Here are 2 ideas for logos. We'd have to incorporate BRAG, and I'm also thinking we should include the outline of the state of NC along with oh, maybe a blue star, where the home base dealership is in NC. It is not easy doing graphic arts with Microsoft Word. I sure wish I had a graphic arts program...but then again I wouldn't know how to use the dang software.

Anyone else have any input/suggestions?

Then when I got the M2, I thought its would be all I could handle. Now, both seem a little underpowered, so could I live with a Blast?

Well, I rode the Blast for a year before I got the M2. Then I rode the M2 for about 2 months before I got back on the Blast. When I did it was great, better than it had ever been before the Cyclone. Part of that was that riding on the M2 made me a better rider. But part of it was that I could appreciate the good parts of the bike after having ridden something else. The Blast is a lot like a go kart. It's small, nimble, and fun. And like a go kart, if it was the only thing you owned, it would be very limiting. But if you have another bike for the things the Blast isn't good at, then it's easier to enjoy the Blast for what it is, rather than being disapointed in what it isn't.

I obviously can't tell you whether you would enjoy the Blast or not, but I do think you might. Its worth hopping on one and seeing what if feels like now that you have ridden for a while.

The rear tire will last about 3000 miles. I don't know how long the front lasts. I still have the original and 5000 miles on the bike. It has plenty of tread left.

Ok, our computer, 2 tv's, alarm system, garage door opener were all hit by lightning. On top of that if we file with homeowners they drop us. So anyway we have commandeered my son's computer. But I am back in the net world now. As for a group picture, I will try to be there, just let me know when.
Ok quick question, don’t like mixing tires but I figured I would hit up on the knowledge of our group. To save money I want to stick a Dunlop 208 on the back of my 12 and leave the 207 on the front, and put 2 new tires on next time. Has anyone had experience with this or knowledge of the results. I would rather not find out the hard way that it was a big goof. Larry

Larry, mixing a 208 and a 207 Dunlop will work fine, as they have similar tread patterns and construction. What gets you in trouble is when you start mixing brands and types of construction. Sorry to hear about your insurance problems, sounds like a job for Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe to me. That's crap.

On a lighter note, looks like for the majority, this weekend seems to be the best bet to get the picture taken. I talked to Jeremy, Smithfield's GM, and he said that Sunday around 11:30 AM or Noon would be the best. That way we could get a good picture in front of the store without having to deal with the hoards of people that attack that store each week-end.

So, unless there's a major issue, this Sunday, August 28th, at the Smithfield location, no later than 11:00 AM.

Peace out,

Dave

Dave - I'll be there. Also, since it's a BRAG picture, is there anything I have to do to officially join this chapter? I am a member of BRAG if it matters.

And since tire knowlege is being dispensed... Anyone have any thoughts about putting the tires for the new XB12X on my M2? I have no technical reason for wanting to do this, but I'm going to need at least a new rear soon, and it seems like an interesting idea.
