Bob!
Sorry that I missed your last transmission and the call to you! I was assigned to funeral duty for the City Firefighters both Wednesday and Thursday and was unable to access the net. I will try to call you this evening when I am released from Hell, I mean the Academy.

Richie...Sounds great!...Keep up the recruiting effort and I'll do the same here...Will also advertise this to the HSTA boys and girls...I'll try to get you guys a HSTA contact in KC if you wish...

Jenn...Where were you this morning?...I thought you'd see Walkup's post on the HSTA list and be there...As it turned out there were only two of us...A newby named Casey on a viffer and moi...We decided to ride down to Rolla for Second Saturday...Only ones who showed there were Ed and Linda, Harvey, Bob (ST1100), Casey and yours truly...Casey and I then rode down to Bixby and back home...Not a drop of liquid sun the whole day so BLAH!...You should have rode, but you know that...

Casey said he lives in the city next to someone with TWO Buells...Wonder who that could be?...Kevin, go say hi to your new neighbor!...One degree of separation, folks...

See Ya!

Keith, I just finished reading your quest for the ultimate pork chop and loved it...Bet you didn't have room for the pie, did ya?...Nobody ever does...I think the pie is for those on a pie quest rather than a pork chop...The only problem with Patti's is that you're so darn uncomfortable for a while after leaving...I've thought about organizing a ride down there but it would have to be an overnighter cuz we couldn't get on the scoots after eating there...Did you have time to explore the grounds?...He's got quite a little zoo thing going on there...

Remember, July to the Lake...

See Ya!

BOB,
Pie????? are you kidding me!!! it would have taken a forklift to get me out of my chair had I gotten the pie!

That would be a neat ride. take the river road down and around. you are right. 3 to 4 hours on a bike after a meal like that would be a bit uncomfortable.

I didn't have an opportunity to explore the grounds. It was getting late in the day and I needed to get back to metropolis due to the wedding rehearsal. I would like to get a chance to explore the whole area a little more since I concentrated my exploring this time to Shawnee National forest.

Alright, one more time. When/where is the meeting and ride? I think I'll try to sweet-talk Blake into adding it permanent-like to the top of the discussion.

Hey, Bob!

Are you kidding me?! I DID ride (you thought otherwise?!?!).
Timing was just a little off for the meeting in the morning I guess. It turned out to be just Walkup and myself, as G'Dave and Antonio weren't able to show either. Had a great ride, and I am starting to feel much more comfortable on the bike--sexy thing that it is! Chased around a guy in a BMW M series for a little while even! I plan on straddling it again this Saturday too! Maybe catch up with you soon..........

Love, Jenn

Stolen from the CA Adventure page:

Tuesday 5/14/02 2055 PDT
i apologize in advance for my language:

SHIT!

i just got off the phone with Racerboy. his exact words were, "Ferris, stick a fork in us."

he and V2Win are in Tulsa, OK, and near as they can tell V2Win's S3 has a seized piston.

their grand adventure is done.

i'm way bummed, for them, for me. more, of course, for them. i've been busted on the road before, a long way from where i wanted to be, and i know the feeling. chances are, most of you reading this do, too.

Racerboy was able to laugh, and laugh heartily, as we spoke, a credit to his good-natured outlook on life, and i can't give him enough credit for that. i told him, in all sincerity, that laughter would be in short supply if i were in their boots.

i also told him that the GP was still a go, that dammit, we are gonna do this thing in their honor, the whole enchilada, Death Valley on Thursday, rippin' the Sierras on Friday, Willow Springs and Rim of the World and Big Bear on Saturday, and plenty of hoisted toasts each evening in their honor.

i've made a couple of good friends out of this deal, men i've not even met yet, and i look forward to the day we get to toast each other in person.

in the meantime, the 2002 California Grand Pre-ride is for them.

I was at the game as well (my whole department took a long lunch). Good game, some really good plays. I was hoping to see Sammy hit one tho.

Incidentally, Mariabelen really doesn't care for baseball (she says its too slow) however she will go back and watch the Sox play anytime I want - seems she really digs the vendors selling frozen Cuervo Margaritas out of their freezerbag backpacks.

Anyone hear from Bob or John? I have a truck and trailer that could be road-worthy by the weekend.

Weeere Baaack!...John's friend Hago and his girlfriend drove all night Tuesday/Wednesday to get to Tulsa about 6 a.m...Loaded John's bike on their pickup and John and they returned to STL getting home about 3 p.m...I left Tulsa about 9 a.m. and rode up to Joplin and then explored lots of back roads working my way east and eventually up to the Elbow Inn for BBQ at dinner and then more back roads to Jack's for a couple of brewskis and on home about 10 p.m...Obviously, we're very disappointed and a bit disgusted...We knew we were violating a cardinal rule having had major mods done so near departure and I had given Ferris a heads up last week as to our concerns...He put a lot of work into the GP and prerode a bunch to find us good roads...We cannot thank him enough...At least several others will still be doing the GP so all is not a total loss for Ferris...Tuesday went like this: Left at 6 a.m. from Lonedell...At Rolla we pulled off to get a cuppa and John smelled oil burning on the off ramp...His bike was sprayed with oil on the right side and the source was the fron push rod base...Not too much loss of oil so we returned, John going to Widman and myself home...I really thought we were toast but John called about 11 with good news that a fix had been performed and after a test ride he stopped at my house and we were off again...We stopped again at Rolla...This time for a bite to eat and again set off...Before Joplin we noticed oil on the right side once more and stopped at the H-D dealer about 5:30...They could/would not work on the scoot unitl the morning...John thought the problem was the same as before and purchased the part required and effected a repair in their lot and off we went...Originally we had planned on Amarillo as our first day stop but we thought we could get to the other side of Tulsa and call it a day...John thought the bike was pinging on the toll road in OK...When we stopped at a QT in Tulsa with a Motel 8 next door, John knew the motor sounded very sick...After a fill up it did restart but sounded like it was ready to seize...We knew we were done and started the above sequence...We thank everyone for their concern and Josh, especially, for your offer...

On the bright side, Josh, we'll be there Sunday morning...Tom just posted the ride notice on the HSTA site and I'll post the River's Edge destination there later this evening...John will be either on Kevin's M2 or my S3T so I may be on the beemer...Keith, why don't you either ride on down Sat and stay at my place or come down Sunday and either meet us at the QT or at the River's Edge...Let me know and I'll provide directions...I've got two spare beds in the lower leval...

Kevin L...Have you met your viffer neighbor, Casey, yet?...

The only other good thing to come out of this whole shebang is I really need to get down to the Gap several times this summer to get ready for the rally in Sept and this will take a bit of the pressure off on the home front re being gone sooo much...

See Ya!

Bob,
I would love to come down, but unfortunately i am still waiting on that rear temperature sensor. Our local dealer told me monday that it would take 3 to 6 days to get it in. I should have ordered it then but thought since I was going to be at the Cards cubs game on Tuesday I that I would try Teds in Alton on the way down. mistake!
Didn't realized that the Illinois river was as high as it was and had to wander around trying to find a way around. Kampsville was under water. still got accross at Hardin but had to head through jersyville and down to alton as the whole grafton area was flooded as well. Figured after all the trouble i was having just getting there that they would not have the part and was right. So I ordered it on Wednesday.
If I get lucky and it comes in early Saturday I might try to make it down. Only other committment I have this Weekend is my daughters dance recital Sunday night at 7:00 pm. I can break off a little early to make that though.
I am really sorry to hear about you guys problems. I know from our conversation earlier in the week that you guys were really looking forward to this trip.
On a brighter note! After a conversation earlier tonight, I think heather and I have taken the pocono trip out of our agenda for this summer and are planning on making the trip with you guys to Deals Gap. We are planning on spending much more time there this year! now all I need to know is how far to the local mall for heather?? and who, what and where to whitewater for one day. What is the host hotel this year? Is it the same, or was it going to be in cherokee?
thanks
keith

Ooops thanks for the offer for overnight accomodations I really appreciate it! But when we do come down for rides this year we will probably stay with Heathers aunt as she lives in Chesterfield. This is why I hooked up the trailer hitch. I can trailer the bike down, disconnect the trailer upon arrival and we with both have vehicles!

Keith...The hotel is the same as last year...Check out the thread on the Quick Board...I'm glad Heather and you have decided to join us...Now that CA is kaput, I may spend longer at the Gap in Sept...In fact I know I will so let's get together on whether we want to front or extend our stay after the rally...Probably after would be more relaxing but I'm flexible...Also, Fontana Village has camping and hookups that I was not aware of last year...Duh, I forgot about Heather's aunt...Hope to see you this weekend...

See Ya!
