DAve,
Im working on it in the evenings after work. Got it home yesterday. Pulled the wheels off so I could fit the new tires and install bearings in the front wheel. Tonight I put the wheels back on. It takes me a while because I take all the bolts and put them to a wire wheel to clean them up. Its amazing the amount of corrosion that can happen when it has been down for so long. I have lots of little things on the bike to go over before I put the body on. Am waiting for brake pads to show up from Brake Tech. Local supply was zip. I should be able to ride it Wed. Saddle bags will be done by then. I hope to have it 99% done by Thursday. We will still have to fine tune it if I can get some miles on it before leaving for Ca. By the way the new engine started up before it made a complete revolution. I have not even put a load on it yet. Sounds good so far.
Later,
John

Jeez, look at the time of Tripp's post...He must be in Hawaii!...

At 7:26 here it's raining like a mutha BUT just loaded up the NOAA long range radar and the storm is moving up I-44 and it's already cleared the western edge of Jefferson County...To confirm this I just looked outside and the rain has about stopped here now at 7:35...It's mostly clear to the west with a few, and I mean few, showery areas...Columbia and Jefferson City are already out of the rain...The route I have planned goes west by northwest so we should be OK...But it's going to be a COOL one...I'm wearing my long johns...

See Ya! at the QT

Bob

glad the weather looks good for you!!!!
It looks really bad for me! between Quincy and I-70 its solid green on the radar. but it does look clear near columbia! I might hold off that early start i had planned. I will still see you guys in Fulton at noon though.

Damn ... getting' down to the wire here and it's rainin' by the buckets. I think I even heard a voice in my head tellin' me to start gatherin' animals in pairs. The Doppler looks like clearing is to the west with another nasty pattern following from KS. 150 mph winds at 35k feet ... sounds like a mixture for bad ju-ju. I'll sit this one out.

Got our T-shirts and signed up for the STD at Glendale. 63deg & cloudy. Watched a bone-stock 98 S1WL dyno @ 84HP and talked to lots of nice Buell folks. Fun day, too bad I don't have mine here.

Bob,
Hope you got the message I left for you in columbia. Got as far as Mexico and turned back. Just got the living tar kicked out of me. Between the two lane roads full of semis and the constant storm I was fighting, it just didn't seem prudent to continue on.

Keith, no problem...I have learned from trying to meet up on the road with others before not to wait too long...I hung around Fulton for only about a half hour and that gave me some time to dry off...It was kinda interesting because at that intersection there was a nail boutique and I was standing outside under an overhang and one of the gals came out and invited me in so I didn't mind the wait AT ALL...I mostly took back roads so traffic really wasn't a problem but it rained really hard from Washington to just before Fulton...

The KC group was already at the dealer when I arrived and so was my daughter and her friend...We hung at the dealer for a while, registered for the contest and received our T's and then Robyn and I split for a meal...The KC guys had already eaten...Their loss...Yes, the pork chop at Boone's Tavern was good...Not excellent, but OK...Still judge them by the standard of that place in KY I told you about...

When I returned to the dealer I learned that the 'Bolt on the floor was to be delivered at four that afternoon so I stayed around and got to fire it up...The engine has v-twin character...The young fellow who bought it was trading in a Blast...Hmmmm, bet that's exactly the kind of thing Buell had in mind...

Riding home that evening I beat a REALLY BAD storm to the barn by about a half hour...The dogs were glad to see me...

It was great to see Bill and Ritchie and, jeez, I can't for the life think of his name...This summer we'll all have to meet at the Lake which will be kind of central to us all...

Rode out to John's last night and he's about ready to rock and roll...Let's see, about all that's left is to get the air cleaner on...He started it up with what little gas was left in the tank and it's a fire breather...He said he's happy with the paint but it's very soft...This may improve as it cures...Scratches very easily...

Spoke with Jenn this afternoon and she has her new scoot...We're thinking about a bit of a ride this Thursday evening...Both John and Jenn should be able to attend...How's this sound, everyone...Leave from the Eureka QT 6:30...Meet John at Wagner's in Londell...Head out Y, WW, H, A, T and then back up 185 to return over K to St Clair...Those that want can grab I-44 or ride backroads into Jacks for a bite to eat...Well see how the time is at that point...

Remember, next Sat is HSTA First Ride...Leaves from Chesterfield Powersports at 10...

TTTTTThats all folks...

Bob,
glad to hear that your trip was sucessful and you made it back safe. The further I went saturday the worse it got! Between the mid 40 degree's and the rain getting through the rain suit it was a rough one for me. I looked at the radar upon my return and realized that I rode straight into the hear tof that storm.
I'm gonna just chock the whole thing off as experience!

Bob/All, ...How about Wednesday instead Thursday?

John, ...I need you there. It will take at least 3 bikes in front of Jenn to block another 135 TEST ride!!! Besides that, Jenn misses you.

Dont count on me being there Wed or Thur. Fired the "Beast" up last night and rode it down the road about a mile and back. Leaking trans fluid. Chances are it is just a gasket but Im not sure until I rip off the primary cover. I have to get the parts Wed. If I have time to tear it apart and reassemble is the question. I have to fix the wife's 454 first. The brake warning light came on yesterday. First things first.
Later,
John

CHANGE, CHANGE...The depart time for Saturday's "First Saturday" ride has been moved to it's summer time of 9:00 a.m...So you will need to be at Chesterfield Valley Powersports by 8:30 or so gassed up and ready to ride...Sorry about the previous bit of misinformation...

See Ya!

It looks like I may be able to ride tomorrow. I worked on the "Beast" all day and was able to ride over to Shady Jacks for something to eat in the afternoon. A little 40 mile "check it out" ride for the new engine. One small problem but I was able to fix it on the road. Then back home. This engine is awsome. 1st and 2nd gear is all wheel spin at any rpm I nail it. It will finaly hook up when I get into 3rd. I will have to exercise some throttle control in order to save tires.

So DAve, are you riding with us tomorrow?...It looks like that's the unveiling...Eureka QT at 6:30...

Yeah John Riiiight...I looked up "throttle control" in Webster's and the pic doesn't look at ALL like you...Everyone run out and buy Michelin stock real quick...

So who is riding tomorrow and who is riding Saturday?...

Neal, loved that last email...The one about the lab and the "business"...

Keith, the KC boys, Pilk, Britt and all you other out staters...How does making the Third Sunday ride for July sound for a meet at the Lake of the Ozarks?...Let us know...

See Ya!
