Were starting a list of all whom wish to Camp at the "Love Shack" ala Jerry Johnson's at MotoGP weekend. Please submit your name and tent footprint size if you know it so as to plan out space. You'll probably want to arrive early so you can have a "View spot" at the front row! There is nothing better than waking up to the sound of Race Bikes coming down the Corkscrew in the morning!

I think I'm bringing my hiking tent. Probably close to the same size as Slaughters. Thanks, Chris.

Eric,
Tom Reiner is confirmed.

Steve B is confirmed.

Sparky and Jen are confirmed.

Timbo is confirmed

Nelson and Barbara are confirmed for a 2 motorcycle spots, no tent.

When you add in all the motorcycles, we're probably getting close to the limit of what will fit. No Taj Mahal tents, and freestanding tents that don't need guy wires are preferred.

Mine is like 6.5'x6.5'

Cool! Thanks.

I don't have a tent yet. I'm thinking a small backpacking tent is a must. It will have to go on the bike, so the smaller the better.

Blake...Try flying to Monterey...most expensive but closest,San Jose...probably cheapest.Oakland and San Francisco too far but even cheaper!I would bring the S3 but no more room in LS Garage!

If you sweet talk the Test ride fleet maybe they'll loan you an XB12??

Eric,

Add Linda and Jim Carek, Linda is the Green sportster gal on the local BRAG rides.

How big are these spots? I figure 40 x 12 feet or so, right? Two spots beyond the Love Shack spot gives us 960 Sq Feet of camping/motorcycle parking space. So if you figure we've got 13 tents now, and figure each tent averages maybe an 8 x 8 spot, that's 832 Sq Feet. That's without motorcycles. Figure each bike is 7x3, or 21 Sq Feet. We have at least 20 bikes. That's 420 Sq Feet. That totals 1252 Sq Feet, over 400 more feet than we've got. We can fit a few of the bikes under the 5th wheel area of the Love shack as before, that will help. But unless the spots are much bigger than I guessed above, we've got some space issues I think.

We must minimize tent sizes, and pack them in tight. Everyone camping should plan on having to set up your tent twice so that we can shuffle them around a bit. There can be no tent guide wires, they are going to have to be adjacent to each other, guide wires would create dead space. So if you have one of those style tents, you'd better plan on getting another. Plan on setting up the first tent in the back left corner, the second tent directly adjacent, etc.

There should be sleeping room under the Love Shack.... : )

Eric,
Can you get a confirmation on the specific site sizes?

Al

Matt,
Do those friends need camp/tent space too? If yes, I don't think we've got it. As per my post above, I think we may already be over subscribed. The SCAB folks that contribute all year long to the Laguna Seca camping fund at the monthly SCAB/BRAG meetings (about half of those on the above list) must have a place to pitch their tents. If there is space left for badwebbers and friends and such, they're welcome, but at some point, we just run out of real estate, and we may already be there, depending on tent sizes and such.

Ebear and I discussed this at length last night. According to the Laguna seca camping site, the three sites we WERE on in past years were approximately 30-35 feet long. I'm guessing 12 feet wide, might be as much as 14, not sure. But they've completely re-graded the site this year, and we don't know how big the new 3 spots are, and likely won't know until we get there this year. They might be bigger, BUT, they COULD be smaller too. In years past, the hill behind us was reasonably level, and I would set my tent up there rather than on the parking pad. It is looking doubtful that we'll be able to do that this year due to the regrading work they did on the hill. So it is very likely that ALL tents will need to fit in the two spots not taken by the Love Shack. No matter how we slice it, we're tight at this point, very tight. It's gonna be cozy : )

Sandblast has a nearby site in priority camping that we can probably squeeze a couple tents onto, not sure how that will work access-wise. In the past, it was the same gate where they checked camping passes that got you into both areas, so we can probably use the SCAB site support vehicle pass method to get wristbands for the folks that would get them to that satellite spot. Ebear thinks that maybe when the Love Shack arrives, a couple of the tents can be set up there to help with reserving space. As a last resort, we can park some of the bikes away from the camp site to preserve space. But again, the SCAB/SD BRAG folks should be able to park at the site, they've paid for it all year.

What scares me is that I'd bet that every other group is having these same discussions. It's gonna be crazy there.

I'm betting we can park overflow bikes at the Buell parking. I'll park mine there if needed. Then we'll just shuttle people back I guess. My little tent could fit anywhere, so if I need to be under the LS, then I'll volunteer. Just make sure the brake is set!!

Al,
no we'd all be cramming into the one tent, we would have 3 bikes tho. I completely understand your priority list.

And I'm more than happy to take the worst spot you've got. In any case , I'll at least make it up for a visit.

Can't wait for July (or at least the snow to melt!)

An article in the LA Times Outdoors section mentioned replacing the normal ground cloth "tarp" that goes under a tent with a "space blanket". What a cool idea! A space blanket weighs practically nothing and takes almost no space compared to my ground cloth which makes for a smaller lighter bundle to lug around on the bike. Of course, the Love Shack is carrying my gear to LS, but you get the picture -- smaller and lighter is better, right? Right!

Here's a question. How is the food out there? Expensive? Since I'm riding up on the bike, I'll have to eat at the concession stand, and out in town. Any ideas? Or is it like every even, everyone jacks the prices through the roof?

New-b....Looks like no-one answered your Question....Yes,its expensive, yes its concession food.We generally all pitch in when we get there and buy snacks and the first night dinner, and orange frosted rolls for breakfast!yummy!!Then we might do dinner in town Fri(mini cannery row) and Sat night we eat at Bubba Gumps or ElTorito for Cannery Row night. There is a Jack in the Box outside 3-4 miles with a nice(fancy)restaurant for quickies. We'll be there Wed and Thurs night and Jerry and I and whoever gets there 4 earlier fun will maybe explore Seaside or Carmel for some unique stuff.A few years we've ridden bikes to real small oceanfront(on the pier) towns and did the Seafood thing.....Fresh and tasty....with a palate cleansing ride home in the fog to prep you for the "abandoned track fun" and "liquid consumption practice" some of us partake in!....might be rivaling some European practices this time!!!!Yahoo!!Yaaahooooo!!!!!!!!

Rex got word from Buell that Erik said he would like to have dinner with the American Sport Bike Night folks on Friday night. American Sport Bike Night is a NorCal Buell club. We are pretty much squared away as far as where, etc., and are finalizing details. It will be in a restaurant off site.

We are giving American Sport Bike Night people first dibs to be a part of that, and then we will make it open to the rest of the assylum if all the reservations are not filled. The dinner won't be cheap, but we wanted to have a nice place to entertain Erik in Monterey. I'll know more and will keep posting if anyone's interested. Space may be limited.

Blake, bring the tent!Nights in early summer in Monterey are foggy and can be cold.Much precipitation but mostly from fog,not rain.I've been rained on only 3 times in 13 years of Superbike attendance and maybe only 3-4 times more at Car events since the mid 60s.But its allways been foggy.California coastline has this Micro-climate thing in summers. When it's hot inland you'll get fog on the coast mornings and afternoons earlier in season.Sometimes the fog(as in Santa Cruz-north)will only be a few hundred yards deep. However if your camping on the beach you don't know that up at the road its sunny and 90!!...Be prepared!
