Greetings Airheads and S.O.B.'s, (Southern Ontario Buellers)

Mark your calendars and start saving your beer money! Saturday April 23rd we're hosting the first Airhead's tech Day of 2005. Whoo hoo! Good news for everyone who loves to ride, wrench and goof-off. We don't even care what you're riding these days, just get yerself there for some fun.

We'll have plenty of tools on hand including a tire changing rig and balancing equipment. PLUS we'll have more technical advice and opinion than you've ever had to sift through in one place in your life. Some of it might even be useful, so come prepared! Bring your parts and projects and we'll see what we can do.

Work begins at 09:00 and winds into a pot-luck dinner party beginning once everyone's bike is returned to "rideable home" condition. So in addition to parts and projects, come prepared to astound us with your culinary expertise. Yes: We work for food!

But don't forget the beer.

Finding Paul's place is easy: Traveling west from Hamilton along the 403 exit at Hwy 52 and head south (left). Follow Hwy 52 through one set of lights and continue south until you see Butter Road (approx 5kms from 403). Turn left (east) on Butter Road and Paul's place is on your right (south side) a click or two further down the road at #914. Yorta see the bikes in the driveway.

If you get lost call me at 289-887-1734.

See ya then!
Lawrence

p.s. Caboose, the next time you post pictures two wide we're gonna come to Burlington and tie your shoes together! : )

Just getting ready to paint my D&D and remove the leaky shock...

John, do you want to sell your spare? I'm still waiting to hear back from the fella's in la belle' province on a price for their shock....Lornce has me scared about damping rates now, so I'm a little worried about aftermarket stuff.

"John, do you want to sell your spare? "
Lawrence recently gave me a brand new race header, so I'll just "pass it on" - let me know how to get the shock to you. I'm working in Hamilton tomorrow (Tuesday) and could leave it at Lawrence's place?
PS: You obviously trust your own welding. : )

Lawrence didn't "recently gave" John anything!

Lawrence owed John for a fist full of parking tickets accumulated on our bike trailer, which is plated to John. Lawrence owes John for a thousand other favours, too, but the race pipe was the best I could come up with on short notice.

From where I'm sitting, it was a bargain. : )

In summation: Lawrence set NO altruistic precedent!

Hey Caboose; Left the shock on Lawrence's BBQ this morning.

"didn't recently gave John anything"
Actually, I've been given a lot of stuff (BMW bits) over the years, the race header was just an example....

John, you are much too generous. Thank-you very much. I want to pay you for it or perhaps work it off with some welding.

I'm digging around for my X1 shop manual and can't find it? Lornce, last year when you and K were working on your bikes and I brought over that RIDGID wrench did I also bring the manual??? I haven't used the thing in a long while and my memory is a little foggy about where i may have left it Either that or I put it some place safe so I wouldn't lose it!

Jay,
Your pipe wrench is still sitting on my work bench, but I've never seen an X1 manual.

Thanks Lornce. My memory isn't what it used to be. The manual has to be in the above mentioned "safe spot"...I'll track it down. When I was a kid, I told my Ma' it was a bad idea to cook with those aluminum pots and pans....she didn't listen.

I knew it wouldn't be long before the unicycle is back!! I think you were experiencing some kinda mid-life crisis of sort when you bought the "yacht" its good to have you back budd. and look forward to having you/99x1/lornce/oddbawl and myself go for a ride soon, i dont think we've had that many buells before...

Glad to hear it, Jay. You were looking a little out of place on the land yacht with the beveled floor boards. I'll never forget the look on your face the other day in your shorty helmet fuming about getting stuck behind cruisers! The guys at work thought it was pretty funny, too. : )

Kareem, Jay's was a "mid-life responsibility crisis". It's sort of the inverse of a good old mid-life crisis. Good to see he's made it through unscathed with a Buell still in the garage... and Track Day season approaching FAST! How's your "crisis" going, K? : D

Til we ride!

I won't be riding on Saturday...the kids got a trampolline for Christmas and have been begging me to put it together. I'll be out Sunday though.

This is the first full summer of my "retirement"....looking forward to racking up lots o' miles!

Track days? Cayuga is still a no go. Maybe is we rented the track for "rider development days"? Could be a loop-hole? My DOCC membership has expired...Lornce, are you going to Mosport this year? Those Ducati guys need to be taken down a notch or two! Shannonville, with its frost heaves, slippery sealant, and 500km round trip is not worth it...well...maybe for the long track. How bout the new track up in Calabogie?

Jay,
There's a shock sitting on my bar-b-que with your name on it. Come and get it, it's done!

Have a great ride, lads.

I picked up the shock early....had to leave the cardboard box cause it wouldn't fit in my tail bag. Its beside your garage.

We had a great ride...lots of bikes, and ever more cops!!! Narrowly avoided the man twice, getting the "stare-down" due to excessive lean angles. What can I say...we weren't breaking the 80km speed limit!!??

So John....what do I owe you?

Lets ride boys. I've got an archery tournament on Sunday....what happening on Saturday?

Lornce, got your message yesterday. Weekdays are harder to skip for me, would have loved to meet you @ the ice house. How was the ride? Were you riding your S1?

This weekend is looking crapy! Rain and cold. Hopefully it'll change, maybe we can all meet up.

Just had a look at the forecast. We've been spoiled this past week or so. Glad I got out today for about 200km, the weather certainly looks like shite for the next while.

What a difference the new shock makes. No more bottoming out and wallowing through the corners! Just need to crank up the pre-load a bit so my sag is right.

I dunno who thought it was a good idea, but I've gotta baptise my nephew on Sunday. Judging from the look I got from my wife when I mentioned riding, I don't think I can skip out on this, I'll get smote fer sure. In the mean time, I'd appreciate it if you all called me the Godfather from now on...
A pope that was in the Hitler Youth, ME as a Godfather, what are these crazy Catholics gonna come up with next? Birth control?

Good meeting you, too, Shawn and nice to meet your lovely S3. Sorry things took so long, but wrenching while socializing can really tax the clock. Remind me to tell you my NYC fire fighter story sometime....

Tough Guy award's gotta go to Brett who rode his S3 from Toronto in the 3C chill and driving rain. What did we all do before Aerostich? Good to finally see you again, Brett. We've GOT to get some riding in together this summer.

Thanks for your participation folks, it was good to see each one of you as you all helped to make a very enjoyable day.

best,
Lawrence

Anyone have a thinner than usual 1/2" box end wrench. My header flange nut and lock nut have "fused" together. The exhaust stud is out of the head and I need to break these two apart before I can re-install my front header.

edited cause i'm nuts....

Problem solved. A MasterCraft combo wrench gave it self up for the cause...just ground a bit off the sides to make it thinner. I'll put it beside the "modified" allen key I use to adjust my primary.

Leading up to this problem, the bike wasn't running great. During deceleration / down-shifting, the motor was popping and back-firing enough to make WWII vets duck-and-cover (no disresect intended). The bike had been without a battery installed for a year or so. My first thought was that the ECM had to be re-flashed??? I pulled the plugs, rear one looked fine, front indicated a lean condition. Grabbed hold of the front header and gave it a shake....loose! Tightened it up and went for another ride. Same troubles. After about 75km I could hear a rattling noise...had to be the header. Once home I took the header off (it was loose again)...there was zero gasket material left? I hope it didn't get sucked back into the motor. Today I went to Poole's H-D (everything is expensive there?) and picked a gasket. Everything went back together AOK. Anywho, now I sit waiting for some good weather to give the X1 a shakedown run...hope everything is fine.

A simple gasket was all it took to fix my X1. She's running great again

Saturday afternoon sometime around 3:00, I'll be heading out for a ride. Anyone care to join me?
