Tim if you need torque spec's, or any spec's for that matter, just call me up at parts, we have every service manual from 95-05 for Buell's. I made sure of that month's ago. Or if you want a copy for your self, it's $58.00+tax, and will take a week. But I can make you copies out of our books. That goes for anyone out there. Just contact me,(As most of you know other's can be less helpful.)

Quote"My bike is completely stock, so I can't speak to the benefits of any of the aftermarket pipes, air cleaners. I don't see the point of spend another 500 to 1000 for 5 to 10 more hp. When I want more I will get a different bike
Before you decide on another bike for a 5-10 more HP gain, ride a Buell thats been tweeked on,thats got plenty of HP and Torque and you will see WHY some of us DO IT!The more inches the better, cubic that is.You can ride a Jap bike that puts out more HP on top,but no torque. Its not all about going 140+.

Richie, First off, if I wanted to go 140+, I wouldn't have bought a blast. I love singles, that's why I bought it.

As for modding the blast, 5 to 10 hp on a blast gets me 35 to 40hp at the rear wheel (883 sportster range - stock). If I went all out and spent $3000 to put on a nallins kit to increase displacement to 600cc (have to bore cases), new exhaust, new cams, rejet carb, k&n filters, and a new ignition module and then tune for max performance I am still looking at only about 50 rwhp and 40ft-lbs. That's not even sv 650 range in terms of rwhp.

The blast can be modded, but IMHO it would be more cost effective to put your money towards another bike if you looking for high performance.

It would be VERY nice if Buell comes out with competition for the Concours - nice sport tourer.....

If they did, the first one in Missouri would be mine......

True story, we had a lady buy a used Blast from us and she rode it once, thought she'd like a little more power out of it. So, the shop installed the bigger bore kit, exh, intake, timing, and she claimed she was very happy with the bike. $3000.00 for the bike and close to $3000.00 in parts and labor. She's not very tall, about 5ft. So the bike fit her perfect. Three month's later she and her husband where on their way back from New Mexico, and they stopped in to a H.D./ Buell dealer out their, and bought 2 new XB12 Lightning off the floor. A regular one for him and a SG for her. Both Black. She has to wear 2-3" thick boots. But I haven't seen the Blast since. Moral:Blast are fun little bikes for what they are, but if you really want to go, get an XB or dare I say a Tuber.

I would love my Blast if it were not for the oil leak (fixable) and the windshield/wobble issue (fixable? Maybe the forks are twisted/misaligned from my 2mph laydown? Or ???). Until those 2 are that is resolved I will probably hate it a little.

I was that way when I had a minor problem with my boat. Once resolved, I stopped hating it.

I guess I expect thing to WORK properly, and I am unhappy when they don't.

Im thinking he did say,}if you really want to go, get an XB or dare I say a Tuber.

The tuber would be to choice for comfort, long rides, more riding mileage between tanks, and if you REALLY want to go!

I am going to get into the welding shop this morning and fabricate a new exhaust for the X1W. Try to utilize the can I got from Sam if I can fix the damage to it and weld up some new pipe from the header collector back, rebuild the broken mounts.
On my way to work Friday morning I think I saw the piece of debris I hit on the side of the road on I435, looks like a piece of truck mudflap and broken mount bar. No wonder it did so much damage to my Buell

Tdwyer - Got it resolved.
I was getting the "wobble" when following too closely to aerodynamically "unclean" vans or trailers.

Today, I got it up to 70MPH and stayed way behind other vehicles (I was even on grooved concrete) and it was steady as a rock except where I was being passed.

The windshield is great! It just catches the turbulence that your body normally would.

Rusty and Sam;

Go to my house Monday and grab that broken race header off the garage wall. If you can fix it you can have it. It's in 2 pieces.

I noticed on Wednesday that the Buells are not near the center of the sales floor any more.

They've been pushed back against the windows near the Buell merchandise rack.

I suspect most people would never find them, now....... what is up with that?

Don't the H-D dealerships know that with the aging of their buyers (ave is 46 or 49 now) that eventually they'll get medical problems or die, and stop buying cruisers? Then the market will be flooded with used cruisers?

H-D's future lies with the Buell line.
Even if the current riders of foreign sportbikes turn to cruisers, they've had a lifetime of anti-harley attitude, and will buy foreign cruisers.

The only way H-D will survive the next 20 years is to really advertise, price, and PUSH the Buell line to today's younger riders. Not hide them like they are ashamed of them.

[rant over for the time being......]

Hey, Zhdman, I'm the "lady" who bought the used Buell Blast and turned it into "half a Sporty." Dyno'ed it at almost double the hp at the rear wheel and rode it all over the Rockies past 11,000 ft last summer. After 3,000 miles riding the Blast (and having a Blast), we did buy XB12Ss (mine is a cg), and I am on tippy toes with regular boots, but as my husband says, "You don't ride with your feet on the ground." And I still ride the Blast. Guess just not in your neighborhood. Sometimes it's just fun to ride a real lightweight (with plenty of pep). Love the XB12, though. See ya around, and ride safe!

Hi, Tim and JJ. It was a pleasure meeting you both and sharing our bikes with you. That's what owning bikes and riding is all about from our point of view. JJ can attest to what a "blast" the modified Blast is. Don't have to ride it everyday in order to enjoy it. We just feel lucky that we're able to have these bikes, ride and enjoy them at this point in our lives.

Hey Joan!! I wondered if you'd ever show up here! How was Costa Rica this year?

My name is Charles Miller (Blue XB9R), and we've met at breakfast in DeSoto on a couple of occasions. Welcome to the Buell Board!

Hi, Charles. Glad to hear from you. We've been back from Costa Rica for almost a month. Spent a day or two finally breaking in my new XB12. Just love it. We've gone to DeSoto a couple of times. Yesterday a few of us came back to our shop to see what was going on. Jim has been working on his BSAs and they are looking really good. We're looking forward to JJ coming out next weekend to help Jim modify his (and possibly my) exhaust on the XB12s. We love the sound of the Hanes' bikes! See ya on the road (or on DeSoto).

P.S. welcome Joan. Apparently the boys(Hanses) had a hell of a good time at your place. I heard all about it! hahaha

Jim/Joan I'm also looking forward to this saturday, so I can put my mechanical skills to the test once more, "ran out of projects here."
Oh yes Joans' Blast is "How should I say this," not so much your average Blast anymore.

Sam
Tim, Larry and I also had a great time BS'n hopefully many more evenings to come.
