Cute little cars but they sure arent very fast are they?

Nope, they ain't all that fast but they are well balanced and corner well. Even better when you lower them, brace the chassis, drop in race coil overs and tweak the engine.

Sort of like a four wheeled Buell, eh?

Do the math with me:

Miata= @2300 lbs.

at @200hp

equates to @11.5 to 1 weight to power ratio

It's faster than most cars on the road, but not the fastest by any means......

and a bike......not even the same ballpark!!!

We're not going to have this debate again are we......

Curb Weight: 3248
Horsepower: 350
Ratio: 9.28

Still not was much fun as the bikes, but at least it has a radio

O.K., to purposely change the subject;

I thought I had someone lined up to share a cabin(for at least part of the time), but I have not heard back a yea or nay.(or any response)

So, I guess I have a room for rent, again.

PM me if anyone needs a place to stay.

Technically...it's both of ours. Since my mom moved back to Wisconsin, she co-titled with my name. Saves on the whole tax deal down the road. I'm heading down there in a few weeks to bring it back to GB for awhile.

Tank Bueller...

Turbo Miata's are to die for. I looked into the supercharger route as the seamless power deliver is more to my liking and will install one some day.

In the interim, the Racing Beat CAI/Ram works great with a few other tweaks in combination with the exhaust and suspension mods especially in the tight twisties. As with the X1, I don't really wick it up in the straights as that is where the radar is around here.

Just ask my wife, you can see her permanent face impression on the passenger side window from the tight decreasing radius left handers out at Holy Hill and the car was is flat and neutral steering as possible. Truly a nimble combination. LOL

Tank Bueller...I have the 15" BBS wheels on my 1995 M Series and am wondering what you would recommend for a replacement. In essence, I have been swapping summer and winter tires on the same wheels for the last 5 years and am looking for a second set for either the summer or winter tires.

Do you have any suggestions? I have been searching online and am slightly confused. I would like a light dressy wheel similar to those that came with the M Series, but am open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any information or references you can provide.

Outrider:

You have face prints on the pass. window too??!!!

I love my miata. I originally was looking for a commuter car to drive back and forth to work. I saw it at a local chevy dealer, and it wasn't hard to justify the purchase: low maintenance, good gas mileage, and a convertible(bonus).

I thought about the supercharger route, but decided that, later on, I may want more power than the s/c can provide.

Wheels: I chose the 15" Konig Heliums mainly for the lightness factor(10.4lbs ea.IIRC), and added some Goodyear Eagle GSD3's. They stick like glue in the dry, and are awesome in the rain too, but snow....forget it.(need to get some blizzaks mounted on those old stock rims)

There are not alot of choices out there when it comes to matching or beating the stock rims, as far as weight savings, the lighter the better!!
My setup weighs just under 29lbs. per corner, and IMO don't look too bad either.

I'll try to post a side pic of my car so you can judge for yourself.

Tank...I just finished my fifth winter with the Michelin Alpin's and they are still like new and work great. If they ever start to fade I will switch to the Blizzak's, but the year I bought the Alpin's Consumer Reports rated them tops. Needless to say the following year Blizzak changed their design and I believe have had top ratings ever since.

Your wheels look good and I will check them out. Weight is a major concern as my suspension is set up for the light weight BBS wheels and I fear if I add too much unsprung weight I am going to be in deep yogurt for five or six months a year. However, $1,600 for four new wheels is scaring me. LOL

Dana...Sounds like a fun car. The limited editions come with upgraded suspension components and a limited slip differential which makes for a great ride right out of the box.

In the handling department, I tossed the limited edition suspension upgrades and added competition chassis braces, stronger sway bars, adjustable competition coilovers, lowered the car and took it to a custom suspension shop for alignment settings.

The owner is a friend and built suspensions for three cars for me out west. Clark used to do the suspension work for the car magazines when they did their shoot-outs and skid pad tests. Needless to say, getting an appointment was difficult but well worth the wait.

Additionally, worth the investment as it made a tremendous difference in handling and was not that bad on the highway. My only problem was finding an alignment shop in WI that had the equipment and knowledge to duplicate the settings even though I provided them with the numbers in writing.

After a few expensive and disgusting experiences I finally found a shop that could do it and it isn't even a high priced specialty shop. Believe it or not, Tires Plus in Waukesha does the alignment maintenance for me now. Still, if I were to get a new car, I would still head to a specialty shop for the installation and initial set up of the suspension. Then let Tires Plus do the maintenance work.

FYI, the Badger Miata Club has a website and will direct you to the best shops to build a Miata specific suspension. However, even though they are a Milwaukee based club, the shops they recommended were in the Madison area. Actually, the closest was in Oconomowoc but it changed ownership and didn't do custom work anymore.

Hopefully, that has changed in the last two years and there is someone locally that can do the installation and set up on my next car. Dana, as you are a car buff, please advise if you know of a custom shop you would recommend in the Milwaukee area.

I don't remember where I ordered the wheels from, but they were only $400 shipped, and came with lug nuts and valve stems.

I'll do some digging, to find the place.

Buellidan...Whoops, guess I got a little carried away when I saw the pics and posts about the Miata's at the Dragon.

Bikes and Sports Cars that excel in the twisties really float my boat. Tis the reason I own both a Buell and a Miata.

I really do wish I could take both, the Buell and the Miata. I'd have to flip a coin when I got out of bed to decide which to take that day.

This thread has been sitting idol too long. So, I'm thinking of doing the dinner/door prize thing on a Tuesday or Wednesday, which would be the 2nd or 3rd. Does that work for most of us? Also, I was thinking we could post a picture of our
bike(s) so we don't blow past each other if we haven't got everyone together at the same time. I was hoping to make Fontana the main meeting place, but due to the fact that not everyone may be staying there, I'm thinking the Crossroads of Time is the next best place, or maybe the Overlook. The group from Fontana can head over to either one to meet up with the others staying elsewhere or not coming for the whole Event. So I'll post a pic of my bike and the wifes.
