Shazam - I didn't know you had a Sportster...
Awfully generous of you to offer.........

I will be making a weekend run to Colorado 12 August, but that may be a tad late for this summer.

Hell I hauled my XB9S in the back of my Chevy s-10 w/ 4 ratchet straps from KC through the hills of TN and NC, all the way to Chesnee, SC with no problem. Who needs a trailer? I guess if you had 7 cases of beer in the cab, then a trailer would come in handy. : )

Just in: Guy here at work took his new Heritage Softail back to (H-D dealer who shall not be named) to have different pipes and fender put on.

On the way home, he heard an odd noise. When he got home, he found the front brake calipers hanging by one last screw, which was backed out half way. He was moments from a really bad time.

He called ***** and tore them a new one and had them come get it and fix it. They offered him nothing. No freebies, no apology, nada.......

I guess that is incentive for me to learn to do my own work on my bike......

Hey I dont care if he dyno's his bike at Gails,I just thought his was the most recently one done by another dyno thats supposed to be correct.I just think Gails dyno reads low due to some modifications on several motors dynoed there and then the same identical set-ups dynoed in colorado, the numbers were much higher on colorado's dyno than Gails, with the same modifications ect....You can always do alittle more to squeeze more top hp out of your motor, but you will suffer some performance low to mid range,so........dyno numbers are cool, kinda like bragging rights but in the real world, not that big a deal.A few of the group have motors that are slightly tweeked on and when we ride as a group, the whole group is togeather,so all that extra hp and torque isnt that big a deal. The fun part is knowing its there if and when you want it.Sam,when you get your bike, take it easy on your throttle,it will loop right on over with no problem!Thats from a guy who doesnt usually even try to ride on 1 tire, but have had too on a couple of occasions.

"Eric,
I am not a doctor, more of a mechanic type and Baker don't make a six speed for the XB cases."

Ahh, did you read my post on sportbikes.com or something? I just assumed you were a doctor cause when I saved the dyno chart of Nallins website the image was named "drsamminnich" I just checked the other dynographs and they're all named "drxxxxxxx" LOL! DR = dyno run, not doctor. "Whoops"

when I read that post, I immediately realized what happened and thought it was hilarious.....

I also hope that everyone sees the ribbing Richie, Keef and I are giving each other is just that, and I for one hope it continues....makes me wish I had built a "torque" motor.

There's no replacement for displacement, right fellas?

my advice: Put that money towards your next bike......Honestly

There is relatively little you can do to the blast that will be of any value to you in the long run, performance wise. The reality is you could spend thousand$ to get to 50hp from 37....That doesn't include all the time (not riding) involved in the process. ask me about it sometime.

dusty...how do you like the windshield on your blast? I have about 10K miles on mine and have been thinking of getting one. Also how do you like the corbin seat?

The Corbin is a bit slippery with my textile pants and the "carbon fiber look" material they put on top of the leather. If I were to do it again, I'd go with the basket weave leather. Otherwise, it is a great seat! Much better than the stock seat.

The windshield is excellent ! Makes riding above 45mph comfortable, but.......

Coming home from demo days, I hit about 55-60 MPH into a 30-40 MPH headwind, and my front end started wobbling. I slowed about 5mph and it went away. I sped up and it happened again.

I have no idea at this time if it is the wind pushing the windshield around, or maybe (since the windshield is at an angle) it is adding to the front end weight, or even lifting it. Once I get my oil leak fixed (next week) I intend to run it out at high speeds and figure this out.

The windshield may not even play a part in all this, as I never had the stock fairing up to that speed.

How is your Blast?
Any leaking (mine was built Oct 2001, so it has the paper gasket, but I think my leak may be an oil line/fitting above the engine).
Anything good or bad?
Oil consumption is normal?

Eric

It was a good chuckle, thanks man. I'm just glad it wasn't me this time. I can be somewhat absent minded, at times.

As for all this hoopla within our brag group, after chatting with Sam for awhile I have a different perspective on things. I totally support Dennis and all that he did for us. But i'm sure the next director will do the same, we all just need to move forward, ride and have a blast. "no pun intended Bill."

Dusty,

I have an 2002 blast that I pick up at MidAmerica HD/Buell in Columbia, MO in July 2003. It has never leaked, occasionally some oil in air box (normal for blast and oil consumption is normal for blast, meaning it uses a fair amount of oil). Its oil use has decreased a bit post 5000 miles. I have never had a front end wobble with stock flyscreen, up to bikes top speed of about 96mph. I suggest checking all your bikes bolts for tightness every thousand or so miles, as I had my shifter come loose once. Tightened it down and hasn't given me a problem last 5k miles. Other than that it has been dead reliable.

Stock rear tire only lasted 3500 miles, replaced with am52 avon which i just had replaced at 9500 miles. Got 9500 out of the stock front tire, should have changed it at 8000, but stretched it a bit. Now have Avon AM51 and AM52 front and rear. I like them, good grip in wet weather.

My bike is completely stock, so I can't speak to the benefits of any of the aftermarket pipes, air cleaners. I don't see the point of spend another 500 to 1000 for 5 to 10 more hp. When I want more I will get a different bike.

I use a pair of Cortech saddlebags, I like them, hold a fair amount, but they must be raised pretty high to prevent contact with rear tire. I plan on getting my 10k service in the next couple weeks.

Sam if and when you decide to build that TORQUE motor, you dont need to go to Colorado to get it built.I know a couple of guys that can build it locally.
Tdwyer, you can GENERALLY plan on spending about 100 per HP,above stock.I have found out thats a fairly close estimate to the cost, and thats doing all the work yourself. Some are willing to pay it some are content on leaving their bikes bone stock, nothing wrong with either decesion.

tdwyer - I took it up to 65mph today, and got a lot of buffeting from the windshield. First on the left, then the right. Like soft but heavy punches back and forth.

Due to traffic, i couldn't go faster to see if the wobble would return, but the buffeting on my chest made the bike "buffet" as well.

This weekend I'll try it with the windshield off.
It may be that for speeds over 55 or 60, you may want a more "cafe" style windshield. That would be too bad, as I overpaid for this one at a H-D dealership who shall not be named.

Paul, you never did say if you got your tires mounted and what you think of them.
