Okay so who was quick enough to get a Brag ticket?

I couldn't get one, so I have a general admin ticket.

Just wondering if there's any Buell/Brag related stuff to do off track.

Also never having been to Laguna Seca, I'd be interested to hear Laguna veterans experiences

I got one of the BRAG tickets...called at 8:06 the morning they went on sale and had to wait a bit to talk with someone. They went fast...

Will be camping at the SCAB spot as usual, American Sport Bike is sponsoring one of the sites. Though I suspect NOTHING will be "as usual" this year. The place is gonna be a zoo. I'm not even sure I'll want to go down onto Cannery row saturday night, at least not to eat dinner. You'll have to get there by 4 in the afternoon to even park down there on a motorcycle. In a car, fuggedaboutit.

Look for the SCAB crew at the 5th wheel trailer hanging over the hill edge above Rainey curve. Our site is some of the best seats in the house (thanks to Ebear!)

Al,
Looking forward to meeting you. I'll be on a Suzuki DRZ instead of the Buell, but nonetheless I'm hoping to meet some of the West Coast people.

I take it Cannery row is the main drag in town??

Almost forgot, will you be selling stuff there?

Nah, won't be selling stuff as I'm riding up from SD on my S3.

However, if there was something you need me to bring, I can get Jerry to carry it up in the 5th wheel trailer.

Cannery row is the main drag in Monterey. It's a pretty upscale place these days. On Race weekend, it is end to end motorcycles, closed to traffic, real crowded party. We got there around 6:00 last year and were literally the last motorcycles allowed onto the street to park. Two of us were told we had to go elsewhere after 6 of us got in, the policeman let us two come in then no more. This year, that event will probably occur 2 hours earlier what with all the people that will be there than haven't come before.

Look here for a view of what the SCAB area will be kinda like so you can find us. They are resculpting the hill below the campsite to make room for more run off on Rainey curve, so we don't know yet exactly what our new spot will look like. But we'll almost certainly have a trailer overhanging the embankment like that, and it will be Buell central for the weekend. Well, I guess the BRAG tent will be Buell Central, we'll be the satellite site.

I'm going to ask Ebear about his spot. I'm hoping to meet as many badwebbers/Brag.Buell people as time alots.

Matt, first, thanks for your recent offer via e-mail to help with my "project" - not sure that i got back to you, and if i didn't i apologize. THANK YOU! : )

now then: which specific camping pass did you purchase?

the SCAB (SoCal Area Buellers) Hooligans generally congregate at the Love Shack overlooking the outside of Rainey Curve (Turn 9), and be advised that the foot bridge has been moved to the bottom of the Corkscrew, i.e. Turn 8A.

Buell/BRAG has always had their demo fleet and hospitality tent set up appx. where it says "Lakebed 4" (green area on the right, mid-map), and i assume this year is the same, altho with MotoGP coming to town this could change? anyway, there are always a bunch of Buellers hanging around the hosp. tent, last year including Erik. : )

i THINK the Buell/BRAG "official" viewing area (i.e. the tickets that you missed out on) is Turn 5 (on the inside of the track). maybe one of the boys who snagged a BRAG ticket (Al?) can confirm.

EBear hosts a ride thru the winding, twisting Monterey-area countryside early on Saturday morning which ends up back at the track in time for all the festivities - maybe he'll chime in and share details.

parking at the track can be an issue (unless you're in love with walking great distances), and this year will be insane, i'm thinkin'. best to get to the track EARLY.

the Laguna Seca facility is HUGE, and if you're not wearing comfortable footwear - and you do much hiking between Vendor Island and the Love Shack - your dogs will HATE you by the end of the weekend.

as mentioned above, Saturday evening the city of Monterey closes off Cannery Row (downtown along the waterfront) to motorcycles only, and it's quite the happening. expect MASSIVE crowds, two or three hour waits for a place to eat (Bubba Gumps is fun!), but do NOT miss this party! this year, i bet if you get down there after 3 p.m. it'll be tough to find a place to stuff your scoot.

it gets COLD in this area at night (and sometimes even during the day), MIGHTY cold, and moist from the marine air. it CAN be downright hot during the daytime, too, so bring enough gear to accomodate a wide range of temps/weather conditions.

as i think of more stuff i'll post it here, and if you've got any general or specific questions i'll help as best i can.

Matt, thanks again for your offer, it was very much appreciated. hope to meet you at the track. : )

Jerry,
Thanks for the track info.

I think we have Fox Hill camping, I'm not positive, the tickets are going to a friend who lives in San Fran.

My plan is to fly to San Fran Thursday, then I'll pick up the DRZ. We'll ride to Laguna (from San Fran)very early friday morning, and then the fun begins.

I'm hoping we can make into Ebears hangout, it looks way cool in the pics. Also looking forward to meeting West Coast Buellers.

I'm thinking to get ahold of Peggy at BRAG and see if it its possible to join in any off track stuff they have going. I'll need to at least take a demo ride to remember what a twin feels like.

Riding today wasn't too bad tho, minimal snow to dodge.

Also , no sweat on the web space, give me a shout if/when you'd want to use it.

Funny!! Yeah, I'm still unsure of accommodations. Depends on how I get there I guess. I'll figure it out. Can't go without the bike, that would be blasphemous! Think a tent, sleeping back, duffel bag and me could fit on a Firebolt? I could look like a Beverly Hillbilly!

Newxb9er,
I have the Ventura packs for my bike. They are pretty cool and hold a ton'o stuff. Here is a pic of my bike with it on, on a five day trip. I had lots of extra space and was even able to carry much of a friends luggage when his homemade rack broke on the way home.

Kinda big I know, not sporty looking for sure, but it sure was nice to have all that stowage space, and not even noticeable when I was riding. Plus, once you get to where you are going, they can be removed in less than a minute to look like this.

If you are interested, I'm sure Al at Americansportbike could hook you up.

Oh, and I'll have mine at Laguna too. I got the BRAG tix.

I'm hoping Ebear will have enough space for me to pitch a tent, as I'll probably be tenting it too.

Ebear-how about it?

General info about camping at Laguna Seca is here

In years past, we've been able to get all the motorcylists camping at the SCAB spot by getting them a pass to get in past the guards at the camping entrance}(and in some cases, just holding up your arm like you're trying to show your wristband), then on the way out, asked for a wristband that lets you get back into the corkscrew view camping area upon further returns. We don't have any info that says that things are any different this year.

However, I think they've been lenient in years past on motorcycles getting in there. In their definitions, they write:

Admittance after 6:00 p.m. requires a
camping pass and tickets for each vehicle
occupant for the following day and all
remaining days of the event including a
Sunday ticket.

Primary and support vehicles must all be
contained in the camp site. No vehicles are
allowed to park on the roadways.
n SCRAMP defines support vehicles as
those non-sleeping vehicles being towed by
or accompanying the primary vehicle. Upon
arrival at the facility the primary purpose of
the support vehicle is to provide transportation
to and from the facility through-out the
weekend. The ticket office will issue one
support vehicle pass per campsite.
n Additional vehicles sharing a site will be
charged $25.00 per vehicle

With the massive amount of people coming, they MIGHT be more strict about policing this, and ask to see the camping pass on a per person basis. If this happens, it's a disaster. Note that their wording doesn't really cover motorcycles very well, it COULD be interpreted to say that one motorcycle is a primary vehicle, the second is a support vehicle, and all others are additional support vehicles at $25 each. Still, if that's all it cost per bike/rider, it's still a good deal.

Space-wise, we have three of the biggest spots. The love shack consumes all of one of those, the other two are left for pitching tents and parking motorcycles. There was a little hill behind the site before that I would set my tent up on in previous years, but that will be gone now so we'll all have to squeeze into the two open spots. I would suggest leaving the big tents at home and to bring your pup tent, as tent space will be at a premium. We have to fit the bikes AND the tents in those spots. Hasn't been too tough in the past, we've even had a car in there before, but I doubt there will be room for a car this year.

Ebear, any clarifications to this?

Al

Al, is this open to all Buell riders? If so, let me know what it will cost to help cover any costs. I'll check about getting a general camping pass. I don't want to drive my truck, but I don't want to load my bike up with a tent, and sleeping bag, so I might get a trailer, and park the truck in the Buell parking lot, and leave the trailer somewhere. Unless someone from up here is driving a cage I can toss my stuff in!!

Al,
I'd rather stay at your spot if possible, more than happy to contribute to the cause also.

Since I have camping passes, maybe you could put a car where I have a pass to. Just a thought

Ebear is the SCAB Laguna Seca coordinator, so he'd be the one to ask.

My take on it is that as long as all the SCAB folks that have been pitching in all year to pay for the third spot have a place to set up their tent and park their bike, any other Bueller is welcome to set up there too. The way it works is that at each of the monthly meetings, we have a raffle for goodies contributed by American Sport Bike, Biggs HD/Buell (our BRAG sponsor), and Jerry Johnson's shop (was Pacific Motor sports, but he just started at SD Harley/Buell). The Grand prize winner splits the pot, but as often as not, chucks that back into the fund. The fund used to pay for two of the spots, Jerry's shop paid for the third, but American Sport Bike is paying for one of the spots now so the fund just pays for one spot. Whatever doesn't go towards the camping spot is used to buy soft drinks and snacks and such. If they don't screw with the way it's been working in the past, it hasn't cost anything for each of the campers to camp in the spot, per what I said above. But if they clamp down on seeing a camping pass per person, I'm not sure what we'll do, since most of us don't have one, and they probably won't sell one now, not sure.

IF it does work as before, the key is having the cell phone number of one of us up at the spot so that we can shuffle a pass down to you outside of the watchful eyes of the gate guards. Once in, we've always been able to get wrist bands on the way back OUT.

It's tough to figure out if it will work in advance, because if we explain how we've done it in the past, well, we've then told them how to keep it from happening in the future. SO it's a bit up in the air. We're assuming it will work as before.

Christopher, I don't think you'll be parking a truck or trailer in the Buell lot. It's a motorcycle only parking area, and it isn't THAT big. Last year, they initially were saying it was for the folks that purchased the BRAG package, but they later opened it up to all Buell bikes. But certainly no cars.

Al

Cripes! Most all the camping is sold out!

Please tell me ya got room for little ole me and my tent.

Or am I stressing over nothing and there is a big overflow area?

I was investigating ticket prices to help with pricing the free AMA tickets and ran across all the sold out campsite reservations.

This could get interesting. :/
