Sitting at my desk daydreaming about riding when the roar of thunder interrupts the quite. Lightning? Harleys? No, the Navy’s Blue Angels, the sound of freedom, practicing for their air show at the joint reserve base this weekend.

Please inform anyone (well...at least any friend) who ever asks to ride your bike that you did this. They just need to know.

LOL

What's that saying I always read here?...

Oh Yeah.

Ride it 'till it seizes!

Hey Cowtown ,You should have seen it from my perspective. I was out at the base today. Its going to be a great show. I recommend anyone with spare time this weekend to get out there and watch. Saturday they will do another practice run for the show on Sunday. Saturday would be a great day to watch( alot less traffic with plenty of good parking at the mall). I wish I could go but I fly to Thailand early Sunday morning I'll be there for the month of April provided they don't keep me there with the earthquakes and all happening in the region. I'll have internet access so I will still be watching for postings. Have A great time in Brenham, I wish I could attend but things happen. Best wishes, Navygunner

So I guess no one is interested in seeing Tommy Castro burn up the Grenada tonight? : (

Kevin,
It truly is. Those leathers are just way to pale.

"My race kit is on the way!

Son perhaps my front-end will come up as often as Dave's did. "

I recently traded my latus for a race kit and it has really changed the bike. I lost a little low end but the top end is crazy now. Front wheel will slightly come up in 2nd gear. You'll love the race kit.

Grapevine Kawasaki is scheduling a ride this Saturday at 8:30 AM. Anybody with a bike is welcome. From what I was told, the roads involve Hwy 4 and Hwy 51. I have a feeling it will be mostly sportbikes that show up. If your interested in kicking some rice burner tail and riding on some great roads, meet me there. It's on the east bound side of the Hwy 114 - Hwy 121 split.

I'm not quite ready yet, but I'll be replacing tires on my XB12S in the not-too-distant future (by June?). I commute 80%, ride twisties 20%, and accelerate hard a lot (love that D&D!). My D-207 rear tire has maybe 1k left (at 3300 miles).

I'm leaning toward Metzler Sportec M1, Michelin Pilot Power, or Pirelli Diablo. Any experienced opinions? While you're at it, tell me a good place to buy them and/or have them mounted in DFW.

Thanks, and, LET'S RIDE SOON!!!

Chris,

I about to put some Diablos on mine. I think the 207's & 208's are worthless. With the amount of commuting you do, I'd personally try the Michelin Pilot Power Sports. They have a harder center compound, yet retain the soft sides. I've never tries them. But the way the guys at Cycle Gear talk about how long they last vs daily performance led me to strongly consider them.

All of my work is done at a place called D&S Performance (over near Fry's in Garland). I can't say enough nice things about the owner/operator, Dean. If you call, be sure to tell him I sent you.

D&S Performance > 214/321-0800

I couldn't agree more about the ride. I'm putting a long one off until I get my goods and do my 10k service. (I'm just waiting on parts)

Chris,
I have the Pirelli Diablos on mine. Here are two suppliers I have used,

the latest,
http://www.dmtaonline.com/
I replaced my tires at 1,100 miles. Anyone need a set of D207’s cheap? I use Fort Worth HD/Buell. They have a touch less tire changer. May be too far from you.

David, I talked with Dean and Sonja - good people. Thanks for their number (he tried to sell me your tires, and said he'd just order you another set! Funny guy...).

Paul, thanks for the links (the second one doesn't work, tho). I'm still up in the air on which tire to get - leaning toward the Michelin, but the Metz and Pirelli have had good reviews, too.

'preciate cha both!

The second link is for Discount Motorcycle Tire & Accessories. I tried their 1-800 # and got an error message. Maybe they're out of business.

Yeah, they're out of business.

I guess the way they sold tires so cheap was that they didnt pay their bills. Creditors came in and shut them down.

Read about it here:

Hey, for tires I"ve used Ron Ayers Motorsports and got good prices and service.
Somebody told me thursday that LongHorn HD/Buell had taken down their Buell sign. I drove by after work that day and they were right.A friend at work who's a HOG member there called up friday morning and the female answering the phone said, No more Buells... Another dealer lost...
Anybody been by Fort Worth HD/Buell??? Just wondering if they're still selling and servicing them. That's the next closest shop to me...

Kevin

Oh, with all this good weather we've been having we need to do another ride. I need to hear these D&D's...

Here’s my report on the Texas Ducati Trackdays I went to on April 18th at the Motorsport Ranch. I have not been to any other track days so I can’t do a comparison. There were 45 bikes registered, 16 in the beginners class. Most the bikes were Ducatis, Aprilias and Triumphs about tied and 2 Buells. A guy from Austin came up with his X1. Actually there were a lot of riders from Austin. There was a guy form Austin I met at the Twisted Texas Brag event last October that was there as a flag signaler. By working that day he’ll get a free registration for the May 23rd track day.

There were at least 4 instructors. The class in the morning was short, they just covered how to use the breaking and apex cones they had set up on the track. After each beginners session the instructors went to the classroom where they answered specific questions from the riders. They were available to either lead you on the course or follow you on the course and discuss your riding techniques. Most of my questions concerned tire pressure and track lines. But now that I have a day experience on the track I plan to discuss body positioning on the bike next time.

I think the group was a good fit for Buell riders and I liked riding with mostly V-twin bikes and Triumphs. They have 6 track days, March, April, May, September, October and November. I would like to do the May event since September is a long way off. How about it guys, it won’t take much to get me there in May. Here’s their link.

http://www.advancedmotorsports.com/trackdays/trackdays.aspx

Most of the riders removed their mirrors and taped up their lights and blinkers. I think I went a little overboard.

I'm totally down with that, if I can get out of Lubbock by then. I should be moved to Dallas by then, but we'll see.

I don't think you went too overboard, except for the airbox removal. The second time i did a track day I removed the headlights and blinkers too. If it wasn't such a pain to remove the rear ones I'd do it every time I was on the track. Learned that the hard way, from laying it down at my first track day.

About Longhorn losing the Buells... I just talked to Bryan Tynes @ American Eagle HDB this morning (while waiting for them to swap out my rear rubber). He said the he doesn't know specifically why Longhorn dropped out, but company-wide they were scaling down the number of dealerships offering our babies. Something about how the dealerships that only had one bike, way in the back of the showroom, or that refused to stock any Buell parts were deemed "not participating".

Anyhow, I also just happened to demo an 03 9S with the Pro-Series exhaust, and as the only Blastard in this particular area I think I can legitimately say, You guys suck! That bike is wicked fun!! I can only imagine how much trouble I'd get into with a bike that can hit 45 in 1st!
