"Spotted this morning, another Bueller, on I think was a blue XB9S ?? @ 10:00am on Woods Chappel Road heading south bound out of blue springs???????? Anyone????? "

I think that was me. Was the rider in a full face helmet, with black/blue jacket? The bike was a grape (purple) Blast with a new black/clear windshield, saddlebags, and tank bag.

I had just nstalled everything on the Blast and was going for my first ride out in the cold cruel world.

I made 2 circuits. I think I saw you on my first circuit. (I hope - because the second time I cranked it up to 50MPH)

I knew there was a car behind me, but I didn't notice a light bar. Then again, the Blast vibrates so much I can't see a lot of detail in the mirrors.

The image of my bike is: http://www.dustyjacket.com/mc/blast_new01.jpg

If anyone going to the meeting Thurday has a Brag merchandise brochure, could you please bring it for me to look at?

By passing the MSF course, BRAG is going to send me a coupon for their stuff, yet I don't know what stuff they have. They kind of forgot to send me that with my membership kit.

I assume you don't need any more help on Saturday, since it looks like you have a full shift listed.

I may drop by just to see what is going on.

Any idea of the routes the test rides will be taking?

Thansesxb9rs...

Unless Roger hands them out at the Thursday meeting... which I strongly doubt... they will be given out the day of the demo when you arrive.

Dusty...

If you show up early for the meeting see Dani I think is her name. She works at Gail's in the apparel dept... she may have a catalogue for you.

Yes... you can come and help... or just watch... a little help at the registration desk might be needed.

It is a lame route of about 4 miles that the HD techs use to test ride after repairs... sounds pretty tame. This may be the most mundane and boring demo ride route ever for a Buell in the history of Buell demo rides. I think someone is afraid us Buelligans will whoop it up too much with low sides and wheelies. We are just too irresponsible to be trusted with a twistie route or one any longer than that!

Did I just say that out loud???

Hey Dennis, where do u live in Independence? I live off of 32nd street (AKA Erin Ln.) across the street from Drumm Farms golf course about 3 blocks, between Lee's Summit Rd and 291. I also found an awesome website, don't know if you guys have seen this one or not, but it seems incredible. If you all don't have a ride planned for late July early Aug, this might be an option. I have ridden in the Cherokee Mountains in SW North Carolina, but didn't get to Deal's Gap, but this event sounds pretty cool.

July 30-August 6 Braggin' at the Dragon 2005 - first annual mostly Buell Riders, but also people with R-1's, GSXR's, and Cruisers coming along for the trip.

Here is the website I found that at www.tailofthedragon.com that road seems awesome 300+ turns in 11 miles, I could handle that.

Oh yea, I'll c u guys Thursday, and I do plan on joining, so I'll bring some moolah, and I do plan on attending on Saturday, not sure when I'll be there, but I'll be there before it's over. We have a turnout party Friday night up north, some guys are becoming Journeyman Lineman, so we throw them a bash, so it'll depend on my state of mind as to when I'll be there Saturday : )

I live on Sterling about halfway between 23rd street and 40 Hwy. You should see my shop in the basement some time... there seems to be "Craftsmans Tool" envy by many after a visit. Some of the tools have even been actually lightly used!!!

DasBuell, Perhaps it isn't the Buellers that scare them, but the novices that want to become one. I read a message somewhere about a relative newbie that went to a Buell demo, and lost control big time. Then again. Maybe it IS the Buellers.

Sure, I can help with registration, depending when. I can't spend ALL day, because my wife will have left on a road trip that morning, and I shouldn't leave my house in the hands of a teenager too long.

I was asking about the route, since folks at work are probably coming. And the highway dept seems intent on closing 150 down this week.

Dusty...

I don't remember what Roger said... but I think a portion was on 150 and a portion on S71.

Buell Demo rides are typically mildly spirited. The One last summer in Columbia was I think about a 30 - 40 minute ride. The factory demo the year before at the HD plant by the airport was close to that. The Kawasaki demo ride at KCIR that same year was 30+ minutes and was very spirited. By comparison they are offering a ride around the parking lot at Gail's. We are still dealing with the Harley mentality of sport bike riders are squids (squirrely kids)... and have no common sense... do stupid stunts... and are an accident waiting to happen. Personally... I think the demo route is an insult and a slap in the face. A crappy demo ride is almost as bad as no demo ride. Last year when I tried to demo an XB12 at the Worth on North Oak... I was going to have to complete a sales contract... do a demo ride around cones in the parking lot... and sign a sales contract. To get my sling bag. Good demo rides sell bikes! A good demo ride let's you see how the bike handles. Would you buy a car without test driving it... or be happy to test drive it through their parking lot. NO!

The last car I bought I had the salesman threw me the keys... and did not know my name... and saw me pull up in a POS van only 3 minutes before. I was not intending to buy that day. He said take it for a spin... take your time. That low pressure... really check out the vehicle test drive was the reason I bought that day.

I will NEVER understand the mentality of motorcycle sale by not allowing demo rides... or by giving not more than a ride around the block.

To sell... you have to make a customer comfortable... and make them feel like they are trusted. Casual conversation about experience and checking for motorcycle endorsement is how you get a indication of skill level. I hope by the next demo event at Gail's they see how sane the participants were, and get a little coaching from the demo fleet people that bring the Buells. I tried to get a better route and gave example of other demo days... but I might as well been talking to the wall!

If anyone who reads this feels that after a demo ride it was too short or too putt putt... please hook Roger or Gail's and tactfully explain your disappointment... maybe that will help with the next demo fleet visit!

At least this is a start... sometimes we have to let things grow. I am just trying to do as best I can for the club and any current or future Buell riders since this is the ONLY Buell dealer in this area. If we don't try... things will never get better.

OK... I will get off my soap box now.

Interesting.......

What time(s) do you need my help with registration?

What Buell is best set up for comfortable (long distance) riding? With a decent sized fuel tank, and can realistically do 2-up for a day's ride? (the 2-up part is optional, but a nice to have)

The one I sat on had my legs pretty tightly bent (If that is the right word) I don't know the model. I am looking forward to next year when I move up to a different bike and my wife grabs the Blast away from me?

Originally, I was interested in the H-D Sportster, but I would really like to stay with the Buell line if I can find something.....

...maybe the Firebolt?

Dusty,

I have a 1998 S model Sportster that I used to ride before I built my Buell that I ran with the rest of the Buell riders. I tamed it down some when I got my S-3 but it still has the dual plug heads .497 cams and a Thunderheader exhaust and it is for sale..The upper end is fresh and it has about 22k miles on the bike total and runs great ask some of the other guys also comes with a windshield and has new tires on it. I rode it down to Erika spring on year rode it Buell homecoming and to Oklahoma City a couple times too...

Dennis,

If I remember right, Roger said in the last BRAG meeting that the ride would consist of the same ride they use for Service test rides which is:

Out of Gail's parking lot turn right on 150--
Go to frontage road turn right, north--
Stay on it until Main St. Grandview turn right, east--
Stay on Main until you get to Lake, 4-way stop--
Go staight until you get to next 4-way stop turn right, south--
Go straight until you get to 150 hwy turn right, west--
Back to Gail's parking lot, the end!

He was very clear that there was to be NO Buell's allowed on 71 HWY due to the fact that last time they Demo'ed they had a speeding contest and some Dummies were trying to pull wheelies. (key word TRYING)

My ten cents!

I think we are fortunate this year just to have a Demo Van even show.

I feel that it is very important that we utilize all our avenues to spread the word of Buell.

And you can bet, the HOG chapter intends to show and on our parade any chance they get, they still think we are a pain in the , and love to F things up if they can. Remember, they think we all think we are Crotchrocket riders and love to act like snot nose punks that just terrorize their little club.

the end, and thats funny I don't care who you are!!

What demo ride Paul?

This is Gail's first Buell fleet demo ride. I wonder how much exaggeration was added to that story. Their demo part for their old building was basically around the block... NEVER on S71. It went around the back side of the place and was basically a county square block... about four miles.. I know... because I was strictly given that path when I test rode the Blast before I bought it for Sharon.

If some Harley idiot did something stupid several years ago on a Buell... that is no reason to assume we and other potential Buell purchasers are idiots too! I guess the Harley guys on the "real Harleys" never speed or ride like idiots. Just us Buell guys!

Yes... We are fortunate to get the Demo fleet... But I have to say... if I get from one more dealer employee the tone of voice and demeanor that they are doing US (the BRAG Club) a special favor by getting the demo truck... I will scream! The demo fleet ain't being brought in merely for the entertainment of the BRAG members. If they did not think this would help sell Buells... they would not be spending some big bucks so a coupla dozen BRAG members can go on a joy ride.

Roger told me that story too... all I can say is... well, the first word is Bull... you can figure out the rest. Like the BS deal of 15% over list on parts to cover free pick up and delivery. (If you are paying 15% over list for parts... buddy I am here to tell you that pick up and delivery ain't free! You are paying for the Harley schmucks free pick up and delivery... cause there are very few Buell guys that will hand their Buell over to some Harley guy to trailer! I won't!!!) Much more needs to be fixed for them to be anything like Appleton HD amd Dave! If they would just lighten up and see how successful Dave has made Appleton and the other HD shop he worked at before moving to Appleton... they could be a spectacular Buell dealership selling bikes way outside the KC market!!!

Dusty... more details on the Demo day will be given at Thursdays meeting. I think they want the all day & morning help to show at 8:30. We will get the details at the meeting. If you can't make the meeting, call or email me for the details

My demo ride ( a used bike purchased from an individual, no comparison?) began at an enthusiasts home, took me to The Vortex (you need to see this place), then a led ride with another Buell to speeds in excess of 110 through the Atlanta interstates. I bought it, no haggle.

A Buell demo without corners is a sad thing. Take it to the next level. Have Roger, Gail and Mike follow Erik.

keef - when/if I move to a new bike, it will be a new H-D Sportster or a new Buell if I can find one that I could ride all day. (This old fat body does NOT stay in many positions very long without locking up.)

Maybe on this tame route, they'll let me try a Firebolt even though I am a newbie. Maybe not.

I won't be shopping until December or next April, unless my wife enjoys her class so much she pushes me off the Blast sooner.

Thanks for the offer.

Dennis I will be at the meeting.

Got my Latus muffler (damn that thing sounds awesome), crossroads handlebars, got the breather hoses cut and spliced to the T fitting for the open airbox kit, but waiting on my Techlusion TFI to arrive this week before I put the airbox back together. Man that idler pulley was a pain in the butt to get off to take the exhaust off. Spent about 4 hours working on it last night, can't wait to put some miles on the new goodies. See you guys tomorrow night.

Yea Das, I'll have to come borrow some tools : ). I spent way too much $ at Sears last Saturday on torque wrenches and allen sockets, but had to have em. I'll put some pics on here tonight. Mobbers...

We will be doing a 50/50 drawing at the meeting. Buy a cash raffle ticket and if your number is pulled... you get half of the cash from raffle sales at the meeting.

Tickets will be $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. See me or Sharon or whoever I pawn this duty off on at the meeting.

BRING MONEY... This will help raise money for the end of year mileage reward prizes!

Also... a separate raffle for a last years Buell sling bag... donated by the club director. All you have to do... is attend the meeting... don't even have to be a member.
