The First SCAB (Southern California Area Buellers) gathering of the year is this Thursday Night (Feb 3rd), 7:30 PM. It will be held at the same place as the December gathering, at Knowlwoods, located on Imperial at La Palma. This location is just a few miles further east on the 91 from the Press Box, the previous SCAB meeting place.

Coming from the east or the west, use the 91 Freeway and exit at Imperial. Go north on Imperial to the second light, which is La Palma. Turn left on La Palma and take the first driveway. Knowlwoods is up on the right....look for the bikes, a lot of different riders meet there.

See you there!

Al

Here's a fun run that's an annual favorite of mine. Pasadena Motorcycle Club's 27th Annual Poker Run on Saturday, Feb. 5. Starts at Temple City Power sports, 5300 N. Rosemead Blvd., San Gabriel, 91776. Start 7 to 9 A.M. It's usually about 150 miles and can go anywhere. It should be interesting this year if they go into the mountains. The stop is Simi Valley Honda.

Buellers,

Let's mix it up with the (PC) non-Buellers. Badwebbers can meet me between 8 & 9 at the start. I'll be on the Firebolt if it's ready, otherwise it'll be the Lightning.

Heads up, a bunch of us are heading out to Ocotillo Wells for camping/dirtbike riding next weekend (12/13th). Reindog, Ebear, Mark Mamone, me, and some other folks. If you have a dirt bike, or even if you don't, come on out and hang. Can't speak for everyone else, but you can certainly take my XR400, or Joanne's TTR125, or even Zach's XR100, out for a spin if you want to play.

PM me for details if you want to come.

Friends shouldn't let Friends pick SCABS!
Instead of the ODD month American Sport Bike SCAB ride to Hells Kitchen in March ,Sandblast Shaun has come up with the great idea of a Daytona Formula Extreme watching party! We contacted Nelson and Barb and the've agreed to host it at their place in Carlsbad!Pending American Sport Bike Al's approval,we'll maybe have a morning ride and end up at their home by 11:00 AM March 12th.Further info will follow!Stay tuned!!We will also need RSVP's so Barb and Nelson can plan ahead.

Sounds like a plan. I'll send out at mail to the mail list with the new odd month agenda. Hells Kitchen isn't going anywhere, we'll save that one for May.

Well...!!!!!Wonders never cease!! Our work with Laguna Seca(SCRAMP)seems to have achieved "Results in our Favor!!"Our person there,Mary J. called me this morning and she says she has gotten agreement that "Worst case Scenario "would be a 2-3 foot tall fence behind the Love Shack, but if the Fire Dept. goes her way there will only be small posts to mark spot like before!A 2-3 foot fence would still allow us to lower the veranda with NO obstruction! She has also said they looked at our plan and there will ALSO be a small bank for people to sit on and view the track unimpeded!!Sounds like everything we asked for!We all need to show our appreciation for all her work when we get there!

Along with this news I also got verification that the Camping Pass situation will be as in the past!
As long as our bikes fit in our sites we can utilize the Support Vehicle Pass to acquire the necessary armband for entry and exit of ALL our vehicles and Camper/visitors!
This means if you can contact one of us on your approach to the track we can guide you in and/or meet you at camping gate so as to get you fitted up with armbands.Once you have an armband you have unlimited access to the site including after midnight entry...(necessary for Sat. night Cannery Row Party entrance back through Front Gate which is closely guarded!)We will be posting or E-mailing Cell numbers as we get closer.

If you can't get ahold of us,or were on one of our Carmel Valley runs you can enter the track with your Race Passes and hike up towards the corkscrew, pass through the bridge, turn left and follow new trail up the hill to the Love Shack...When you get there ask someone to use the Support Vehicle pass.Go back to your vehicle and drive around to Corkscrew view Camping entrance, show pass, get bands, come up and we'll help unload bikes if your not on 'em allready!
Ill post more pics of Map and mark it up so you can find your way...YAAHHOOOOOO Seca, here we come!!

Heads up!
We had yet another Buell swarm at this months races at Willow Springs. The threat of rain did scare away a large number of the regulars, but it was still a great turnout.
We had 6 Buellers on track and several more came out via automobile to watch the fun and hang out.
Slaughter got his first podium! YAY!
Bad news is he crashed hard in his last race of the day and is pretty banged up again. NO YAY!
Keep fingers and toes crossed for his speedy recovery. I'm sure he'll be back on here with his report as soon as he can =)

Hi all!

This following is a generic cut/paste going out to a few boards

Typing 1-handed and kinda sore...

A day of major contrasts – my first podium – followed by my first “hard” crash. My primary sponsor - Glendale HD/Buell sponsors Middleweight twins class this season - so that is where my effort is focused for the time being. Thanks to Kurt and Kenny (a couple friends racing SV's) for not racing so I could get my first podium finish. They're both a couple seconds faster than I am on my best laps.

Tally: broken left ankle, left collarbone, cracked ribs between shoulderblades, 2 chipped vertebra (those reptile-like extensions are cracked, NOT the vertebra themselves)

The bones healing are pretty predictable but the swelling on the brain had the doctors scared for a couple days. I'm on low salt, low water/fluids until all that fluid gack in my head gets re-absorbed. Got a long list of things to watch for in case swelling starts again. They had me in a padded bed, partially restrained just in case I got seizures. No problems as it turned out

I’m in a wheelchair because I can’t manage crutches with the busted collarbone.

I got a call from Johnny Lowery – Ducati – while I was in the hospital – he was right behind me when I came off. He said I was sliding to the outside in turn 1 (left turn) and it looked to him like I had it under control til I came to the edge of the track when (probably) I rolled off to stay out of the dirt – and it hooked up, launching me in a classic hi-side. He thought he ran me over but in getting the perspective from another racer in the stands, my bike slammed into me while I was on the ground – I finished under the bike when everything stopped moving.

The collarbone and head injuries were more consistent with impact by something sharp/hard, not hitting the ground. Johnny stayed upright (thankfully!) and has none of my blue leather marks on his bodywork – and the observer in the stands said I just got caught by my own bike, and not run over by Johnny’s Duc. Regardless – as they say, "that’s racing" I’m just glad I didn’t take somebody else out. The helmet (Arai) was crushed on the left side and my left eyeball ruptured a bunch of blood vessels so I look kinda spooky with the red eye. Left side of my head is all bruised where the helmet got mashed down onto my skull – the skin has lots of broken blood vessels under the hairline and on my left forehead. A good helmet is a good investment!

I’m going to miss a couple weeks of work. Not looking forward to seeing the bike (it’s at a buddy’s place along with my gear)

All for now. Gotta try getting some sleep.

One more thing - Team Yamaha was out for practice/setup/tuning - and Hacking and Buckmaster are seriously FAST!

Morphine can be your friend!

Welcome back Steve!
Keep that "Evel Eye" off of me please.

I think you will be happy to see the bike, barring it doesn't try to jump on you again. Any Calvin and Hobbes fans here?
Th eXB is actually in really decent shape - you padded most of its fall... The frame has another ding, the tail section cracked, and the left bar bent. That the major damage. The rest is minor bits - shifter, footpeg, etc.
You did good Steve!
About that helmet though.... we need to put the collection plate out and get you another.

Ouch, Steve! Sounds pretty bad, good luck on the healing. Hope you have good health insurance! But more important, glad you had good protective gear so you're able to be typing this stuff to us now.

Don't know about morphine, but stay away from the demorol...evil stuff. The only times I had it, I kinda thought the pain was better. Makes watching a daytime soap opera a mental challenge, not that you care either way. Turns you into a zombie. And the shot hurt worse than the broken bones, like someone injecting fire. Nasty...
No laughing or sneezing, ribs hurt real bad when you do that.

Get well soon, heal straight.

Just got my first look at the bike. Thank goodness for good gear!! Looks like the crankcase/clutch cover landed on/broke the helmet and the footpeg took out my collarbone. Owie! The doc said that something sharp had to have been what broke the collarbone - it has a small piece sheared loose right in the middle - he said like getting it hit with a small hard bar. The blue on the crankcase matches the Arai. Kinda makes sense. Bruises kinda line up.

Now it I could only remember what happened!

Bike isan't as bad as I had thought - like Matty told me, it's a good thing I cushioned the bike with my body.

Al - yes - I thankfully have good insurance. It's gonna be an expensive weekend - 3 days in ICU, 1 in critical care... Ortho and neuro followups. I'll probably be physically ready before I'll be financially! I'm getting the best care but will be out some bucks. That was the decision I had made in the beginning - no compromises on the insurance and just "suck it up" if something did happen.

Al,
Meds are a funny thing.

Two years ago when I had the compound fracture to my right Tibia/Fibula, when I arrived at the ER they gave me a healthy dose of morphine...it had no effect, zero, they waited 15 minutes and gave me another healthy dose...nada, zip. Doc comes in the room and says "you ought to be REALLY loopy right now", I wasn't, I was totally coherent and in a lot of pain. Doc said in rare cases, for some people, morphine has little effect

They waited an hour then shot me with Demorol...I felt MUCH better. The leg being on fire sensation went away and the sharpness of the pain faded to a dull ache. They kept me on Demorol for two days and switched me to Vicodin.

Vicodin and my system do NOT agree. Every time I fell asleep, I would have wierd nightmares of falling through space, that would jolt me awake. no sleep for 12+ hours. That was an evil med for me.

So they put me back on Demorol and all was well.

Meds are funny that way I suppose.

And when the time comes, rehab is really important. Take it seriously, I know you probably would anyway, but I had to say it.
