I had a 1000cc ironhead sportster that I rode for 7 years, 5000 miles a year. The vibes really were effected by tuning, subtle timing and jetting changes would increase or decrease vibes and also shift the sweet spot to a different rpm. As long as I kept the revs reasonable it wasn't a problem for me, in terms of comfort but parts did shake off occasionally. I rode a solid mount evo 883 that was really sweet but also rode a rubber mount... and I liked it. The bottom line is that I will likely have another sportster (evo) and it will be either rubber or solid. (Message edited by growl on January 09, 2010) |

...how does the vibration of the pre-2004 bikes compare to my XB9R? I've got a 2001 XL883C with 75,000+ miles on it. Everyone tells stories about how much Sporties vibrate, I guess I just don't notice it...or I'm just used to it. I think my 03 XB9R shakes just as much at idle. Smoother ride, but I would attribute that to the better suspension components. |

I haven't ridden it for a while (because I have been addicted to my last two Buells) but I still own an '82 XLS ironhead. I rode it for years and it's a great bike. If you're looking for the comfort level of a gold wing, don't bother. But, the bike is definitely on the fun side and super easy to work on. |

Patches, when I bought my then new '07 XB9R this exact bike (minus add-ons of course) was on my short list. Still can not believe HD killed the roadster. Glad I got the 9 of course. |

A friend bought an 08 XL that had a horrible vibration to it, like it had a broken motor mount, or maybe an out of balance flywheel, and it got worse as revs and speed increased. I tried to help her get it straightened out, but the dealer and the company both told her that it was within specs, and she would have to live with it, even though she test rode other 08's that were far less uncomfortable. So I guess quality control has a wide range of acceptable vibration. |

Had a AMF 883 and the vibration was intolerable for even a short while at 55MPH. |
